Liz Smith: Jane Fonda – She's Finally 'Legit' at Sardi's

Oh, Roberta, absolutely nuts that this conversation is going on.  Frannie, of course I know as well as anyone that not everyone in Vietnam was on Lt. Calley’s patrol, and people in my own family were on both sides of the fence when serving over there.  Agent Orange was and is an ongoing tragedy in my own family.  Ms. Fonda’s actions were in service of working toward peace among nations, which might be a goal you could adopt Ms. Wickham.  Start with seeing if you can’t find some in your own heart instead of hanging onto this imagined hurt from 40 years ago.

What really occurred was that many of our brothers were drafted to kill innocent civilians by the thousands with assault rifles in their homes and villages.  Our soldiers set villages on fire and burned people to death.  Our soldiers committed unspeakable crimes in Vietnam and many of them are walking our streets today talking to themselves, homeless because of what occurred over there.  Fonda and many others fought with whatever power and consequence they had to put a stop to it.  If your brother is murdering someone, isn’t it your responsibility to put a stop to it, if you can?  Oh, but he’s my brother so she’s wrong because she protested?   Oh, please.  And one good thing about this illegal and unjust war is that even people like you realize those against the war are not against the soldiers.  Fonda is not and was never against the soldiers.  The war machine media people put it out that way, but it is simply not true.  The woman was a patriot.

Her actions weren’t the important ones, Andrea.  The people who made the decisions about Vietnam and got us embroiled in that mess were the ones who  your siblings and husbands and sons should have "quite a different experience of."  Many of the Vietnam vets I know think she was a real patriot, so you don’t get to say about her without rebuttal.  I agree with them.  I’ve met Ms. Fonda personally, which I suspect you haven’t, and I think the woman is a real patriot and a loyal American.

So what?  You are intolerant and unforgiving to someone you don’t even know.  Is this something you are proud of?  The US Army murdered innocent people in Vietnam by the thousands over oil.  Is this something you are proud of?  Does anyone care whether you watch Ms. Fonda’s movies or what you consider her?  Not really.

Her actions were nothing compared to the consequences of the lies the Bush administration told the American people.  Are you also unable to support them as well?

Jane was doing what she believed was right.  In retrospect the Vietnam War was a terrible tragedy for America, and she was way way ahead of the curve here.  That you hold onto this in this way is another tragedy, but this time for you.

What might the loss of our tradition of bipartisanism mean for the country?

What’s also true, Phyllis, is that it was once not okay to throw beer bottles at the opposing side when they were at bat.  Of course if, as the Republicans did, all the rules of the game were broken, there was a time to step in.  But now, President Obama walks up to the plate, and they start with throwing the beer bottles.  The idea of fair play applies only to what the "liberals" should abide by.  As usual, it’s a case of us supposed to always tell the truth and to believe the lies.  The recent Republican administration did everything in its power to destroy bipartisan discussion in this country, and its adherents are still at it, as evidenced by what is going on on this website.  Blame the victim while still kicking them is the game.

What might the loss of our tradition of bipartisanism mean for the country?

I know, Suzanne, I know.  Just more of the same boring waste of time.

What might the loss of our tradition of bipartisanism mean for the country?

Bonnie, obviously what people do elsewhere is none of your business.

What might the loss of our tradition of bipartisanism mean for the country?

Well, Bonnie, except that I don’t have a shadow website.  That’s a rumor that simply isn’t true, like much of what is said on this website.

What might the loss of our tradition of bipartisanism mean for the country?

The Republican Party already destroyed the "traditional bipartisanism" in this country.  What it means is that it is no longer possible to have a real discussion of any meaningful substance in public because of the constant assault on ideas outside the party line.  For that reason, even pretending that we can answer such a question on this website without the censorship of progressive views that has been going on for months is a total sham.  If you remove this post, I will post it all over the internet along with the fact that it has been censored by wOw.

Candice Bergen Loves 'Dancing With the Stars'

Or you could get your camera out of the closet and resume your path as a great artist in your own right.  Always a thought, Ms. Bergen…

The avalance continues and still they run on, EKA.  We are going to have to invent new words for how absurd this nonsense is.
