Great one, Molly. Thanks for posting this. I teach digital media courses at a community college and was appalled by the new Mac line-up with NO Firewire port. Apple created the EE1394 Firewire 400 port, if I’m not mistaken and everyone jumped on board to make this “the connectivity” of digital media. Now they remove it and put it only on the most expensive laptop???? Left me scratching my head. I’ve been a Mac user for years and still have my handy G4 1.67MHz laptop (best one they ever made, in my opinion) that has ALL the connectivity anyone could ever need. So their new lines leave a bad taste in the mouth. This is the wrong time to take away features and raise prices. SHEESH. To answer a few of my fellow posters questions here, if I may be helpful: Kermie - not a dumb question at all and you’ll be pleased by the answer. You haven’t lost anything if it’s your memory stick that the dog chewed. Your hard drive stores all of the information and it would be TOUGH to chew through one of those metal casings. You just need to buy new memory - it doesn’t store anything but rather helps your operating system handle multiple applications at once. James - if you have a PCM-CIA slot you can get a card that links you out via wireless rather than the modem style ones and through your cell phone carrier. (I use a Verizon wireless card that works extremely well and it’s worth every penny.) Granny with the MacBook Air. Good on ya! Rock on, Grandma! My Mom at 82 is completely set up with all of my old Mac toss aways. She’s screamin’ fast with a G4 tower and an old cinema display. She emails and surfs the web daily with her brothers and sisters who all have a broadband connection as well. Mac’s are very safe for people who might have trouble wiggling around inside of a computer. I hope this finds everyone well.

Everyone deserves a pointing to including Barney Frank and all of Congress. Why don’t they take a 2-week break this time? Why do the auto companies get lambasted and not Wall Street? It took people on the Internet and the media to uncover the AIG junket right after they got the money. Sure it was planned way before their bailout, but come on! Tighten the belt - EVERYONE. And Diana, I hear you there. I’ve been a business owner and never paid myself over my employees. I always felt responsible for their well-being and in tight times, no dough for me. How on earth do these CEO’s and upper management of all of these companies continue to pay themselves their exorbitant payroll, bonuses, and expense reports? Did they all drink the Kenneth Lay koolaid? (I’d love to see an expose on the expense reports from the last 12 month of all of these greedy fools.) Anyway, the job losses that will incur will be absolutely detrimental and guess who suffers the least? Those three men sitting in front of Congress asking for spare change.

I just uncovered this. Now I get it completely: The Choctaw sided with the Confederates during the Civil war of 1860 - that’s all I need to know. Find another site to hound. You are neither a woman, nor Choctaw. Stop your deceit and let us carry on with real debate.

Oh angry young one. We don’t need government to make us happy and complete…there you are correct. But we do need government in order to maintain peace, maintain our environment and surroundings and not allow greed and corruption to wag a finger in the face of the citizens (as has been occurring for decades now. We need capitalism to work for democracy, not the other way around. So sorry you are so ant-government, my friend. I hope that peace somehow soothes your heart so that you can pass that along to the child you speak of. Take care. I’m off to teach a class and will return to this convo later.

What used to be a center of productive activity (in the era of Lincoln) has turned into a mind that feeds on greed, calculation, and deceit. Perhaps this is why the Repubs are flailing their robotic arms about like Dr. Octopus with his plug pulled. The party has neither a beginning nor end, similar to the nebula one might find in the night sky. (oh, but they sure do have a base, a center…aye) And sorry? If he did absolutely nothing for the next 8 years, just sat on his hands and watched the birds fly by on the White House lawn, we’d STILL be better off than we’ve been the last eight. These “Citizens United” are the very same ones who voted to put Bush/Cheney in power for 8 years. Talk about power hungry. Talk about criminals. Why don’t these people look in their own closets and suss out deceit, hatred, and bigotry. Let’s spend out time putting Wall Street CEO’s, Bush, Cheney and the military industrial complex on trial for the evils that have brought down this great nation.
