Who won Thursday night's debate?

Good evening, Marjorie. Can you cite your reference to this italicized point? I think that will help clear things up quite a bit. The words “…failure to obtain clear title to the property before beginning construction…” is most definitely a legal issue that most mayors would not find themselves mired in.

I dare she that she is anything but underestimated, M.A. She is a very sneaky power-grabber. Remember that she left her little town of 6,000 people in a $20 mil deficit? They didn’t have that before she was their mayor. She’s got several connections to politics in the state of Alaska that are not kosher but the Republican party has squashed everything they can for the moment. People are clearly seeing through her, unlike some of you here on this thread. Look at the polls. She’s not swaying the independents. Obama / Biden have as much as an 11-point lead in several battleground states. And those states have a lot of hockey moms and joe six-packs that I believe have become enlightened to her complete B.S.

Really terrifying, Sherrie. And in light of the last twenty comments I’ve read before yours here, REALLY REALLY terrifying. I can’t imagine any woman defending any of Palin’s non-answers, insider winking, and simple “Chance the Gardener” metaphors that only twice even related to the question asked. This is truly a bitter pill.

A round of applause, Phyllis. That’s exactly what I think and hope for in the people elected to govern. And this reminds me of one thing that has become all too clear: Obama will pick the best cabinet. There is no doubt in my mind about that as he showed his mettle in his choice of V.P. I fear McCain picking his “Keating Five” type of allies in cabinet positions. Just imagine who might be the Secretary of State, the Treasury, the Interior…. I shiver.

The saddest thing to me is to read someone equate the words “educated” with “elitist”. It’s absolutely unfathomable that you can consider someone with an education an “elitist”. Since when did Americans aspire to become a “joe six-pack” kind of people? It’s no wonder China is about to (if not already) become #1 superpower. Asians have always put education first. And I’m talking all class of the citizenry of China, Japan, et al. I’m a college educator and when I read something like this and I hear that you don’t think the person with the most power in the nation should be far more educated than the average joe, it makes me wonder, Eleanor. “Government by the people, for the people.” Yes, and many of our forefathers were highly educated, by the way. It’s a sad day indeed.

CO wrote: Why are so many scared of the good ole way? It worked better for them so why not go back to that? The good ole way? Are you serious? The good ole way is what got us into this deregulated mess of an economy. The good ole way got us into two unending wars. The Dems have held a slight majority Congress ONLY in the last two years. For 6 of the past 8 years, the Republicans held the majority through ALL BRANCHES of government and look where we are today: A war that won’t end but was declared a “win” countless years ago. A Vice President who is by far the biggest war profiteer in the history of the United States. A Treasury Secretary who had no foresight to figure out that the banking industry was in shambles. A Secretary of Defense who had to step down because he had no plan, no clue whatsoever how to deal with the Middle East after we bombed it to hell and back. An Attorney General who had to resign due to the pressure of allegations that he perjured himself in a court of law. Imagine that. …and the list goes on and on. If this is your idea of the good ole days then you can have them!

Who won Thursday night's debate?

Good morning, Judith. I’m sorry to say that you’re going to find yourself pretty outnumbered here. I’d love to say it’s refreshing to have a debate about who is best to take this country out of the extreme mess that we are in. But to be honest, remarks like yours scare the hell out of me because I can’t see for the life of me how someone can continue to support a McCain-Palin ticket. It would be the most grave presidency of our nation’s history. Luckily, you’re not getting your way right now according to the polls. But given McCain’s taste for the outrageous, I fear we’re going to see some outlandish demonstrations of his narrow focus for the White House coming up in these next 30 days. God help us all. And Palin wishing to expand the powers of the Vice President? Oh, Lord!

Will Sarah Palin Be America's Next VP? Watch Liz Smith on FOX News (Video)

Yes, Liz. And given that she would like to expand the powers of the Vice President should she become the next V.P. that tells me that you are right on the money with this prediction. It’s a chilling thought to me. She is a very scary candidate.

Who won Thursday night's debate?

I agree, Diana. I couldn’t believe her lack of any kind of feeling whatsoever after his statement. And did you notice that she was smiling throughout her entire question to the answer to accidental death of the top of her ticket. You just don’t smile through an answer like that. Someone posted that she IS scarier than Dick Cheney and I never thought I could agree to that, but after the debate, I sure do.

Who won Thursday night's debate?

Palin sounded like Kozinski’s Chance the Gardener mouthing empty phrases. Oh yes….THAT is the perfect analogy. She’s freakin’ Chance the Gardener! That’s perfect. Thanks for posting Mr. Schrum’s comments, Step.

Who won Thursday night's debate?

She looked like a NEWS ANCHOR, didn’t she? I swear, if the sound were turned down and you flipped around the channels you’d think she was one of the syndicate news people. If that woman becomes the V.P., America is DOOMED.

Who won Thursday night's debate?

The winking, the winking!!!! What is it with Republicans and the winking??? Dubya has been doing that for 8 years and it irks me to no end. I’ve seen McCain doing it on several occasions and last night Palin too! ARRRGHHHH. It’s that snide insider kinda winking. I was watching the debate in a bar last night (I just had to have plenty of martinis standing by…) and someone yelled out that her microchip was malfunctioning when she winked! HA HA

YEAH! Susan, that is the funniest analogy and so so so true! (sad, but true.) I guess human nature hasn’t changed all of THAT much in thousands of years. We want to see the defeat in the coliseum. Hope your daughter has a great game tonight.

Susan, every cable news channel will be doing replays all night. Count on CNN and MSNBC running this at least 3 times until around 2am.

perhaps the premature birth of Bristol’s baby????? I have nothing to base this on either, L, but as soon as I read that it’s the first thing that popped into my wee head.
