Judy Bachrach: When McCain Offered Palin Second Place on the Ticket, She Had a Choice

Very good point, Lynn! Is this the site I thought it was? Women bashing other women because they “work” and are still able to manage a family? I could understand it better if these remarks were coming from men. Are we living in the 1960’s? And another thing, why on earth do most of you want to ridicule this woman? Hey, the Dems decided not to go with Hillary at the top of the ticket, and Mr. Obama ignored 18,000,000 of her supporters and CHOSE not to put her on the bottom of the ticket…who’s Obama’s CHOICE? Biden, one of the “good ole boys” who received only 9,000. You can RESPECTFULLY disagree with Sarah Palin’s political beliefs but give credit where it is due..this the first time the Reps put a woman on the ticket (no matter what their intentions…they had the guts to do it!) And after witnessing the sexism and the misogyny that went on with Hillary, I would think that many of you would be fighting this treatment, not applauding it! OMG, let’s celebrate the fact that we have a “woman of substance” running for the Vice Presidency of the US.

Palin Electrifies GOP, Women and Presidential Race

C O, I, too, am wondering where all the venom is coming from. Why is it directed at Sarah Palin??? And she was magnificent last night! My anger is with the sexism of the DNC, the MSM, and the “good ole boys.” Would I give credence, support, and corroboration to them? No feminist way!

Palin Electrifies GOP, Women and Presidential Race

Patricia, Patricia, I’m with you…WOW WOW WOW….I loved it! I think it was absolutely brilliant that McCain chose Palin and I, for one, am excited with the propects of a woman in the White House…not just any woman, but an accomplished woman who’s passed an ethics bill, placed her private jet on ebay, entered into pipeliine agreements with Canada, attacked big oil and balanced the state budget. And all this achieved in 20 mo… sounds pretty impressive to me. You go, girl!

The wowOwow Reader Forum on Governor Palin

Mary, I stand corrected, thank you…no mention of Palin “killing” the bridge… just a statement from the associated press, cbs and abc (and in 2006 she was for it) After she became governor, she was against it…Congress still gave Alaska $220 million to do whatever the state wished. “We will continue to look for options for Ketchikan to allow better access to the island,” the Republican governor said. “The concentration is not going to be on a $400 million bridge.” Palin directed state transportation officials to find the most “fiscally responsible” alternative for access to the airport. She said the best option would be to upgrade the ferry system. You were right…no mention of “killing the project.” Hopefully, this info is credible.

Mitzi, It’s simple, there’s no puffery here: Thatcher took the Brits from a terrible recession to a thriving ecomony, solidified the country, and led them through the Faulklands war quickly and successfully…she was one of the US’s strongest allies. She was a strong effective proud FEMALE leader who did a great job for her country. I think you’re missing my point: Palin’s reputation as a reformer in Alaska is credible: she eliminated corruption (and wasn’t afraid to attack her own party) and ceased wasteful spending, killed the “bridge to nowhere” and returned the money to Washington, and balanced the state budget. She’s a “Washington outsider”: she is actually the “change coming TO Washington” rather than “from Washington”,(hmmm…sound familiar?) Palin’s expertise on energy issues, her experience as the governor of Alaska and her experience as a state oil regulator will be invaluable. She manages a budget of over $10 billion and more than 24,000 employees. That’s not insignificant and she’s only at the bottom of the ticket. Foreign affairs? Both Obama and Palin are weak; McCain and Biden are strong. As for McCain’s age…heck, his mother’s 90 plus and sharp… I figure he’s got another 8 and 1/2 years at least! I think that both candidates have done a good job in not PERSONALIZING rhetoric in the campaign so far, and maybe we should take a cue from them.

Ouch! My head is spinning! Seriously, I would have loved Hillary at the top of the ticket! Don’t think she should be 2nd to anyone so in a way, I’m relieved that she’s not the selected VP. I just think that she should have been asked!

No, James, not McCain….Obama!

James, here’s a little food for thought: Margaret Thatcher once said, “In politics if you want anything said, ask a man. If you want anything done, ask a woman.”

Majorie, you make some very fine points and if you don’t mind, I’d like to add a few that I read from the Denver Post. (I, too, am an independent, now.) Executive experience: Obama: Makes executive decisions every day that affect the lives of his campaign staff and a vast crowd of traveling journalists (Joan’s point.) Palin:Makes executive decisions every day that affect the lives of 500,000 people in her state, and that impact crucial issues of national economic interest such as the supply and cost of energy to the United States. She vetoed 300 pork projects in Alaska in her first year in office. Record of bipartisan achievement Obama: Speaks movingly of the bipartisanship needed to end the destructive politics of “Red America” and “Blue America”, but votes in the Senate as a down-the-line Democrat, with one of the most liberal voting records in congress. Palin: Ridiculed by liberals such as John Kerry as a crazed, barely human, Dick Cheney-type conservative but worked with Democrats in the state legislature to secure landmark anti-corruption legislation. Former state Rep. Ethan Berkowitz - a Democrat - said. “Gov. Palin has made her name fighting corruption within her own party, and I was honored when she stepped across party lines and asked me to co-author her ethics white paper.” When someone applies for a job, you want to see their credentials, their accomplishments, along with their hopes and dreams.

Sorry, guys…not “unadvantaged”, “disadvantaged”. I apologize to Joan about the spelling.

Joan Ganz Cooney: The Choice of Palin Is Simply Irresponsible Updated 8/30, 2:06 PM

Okay, Diana, do you want to go into Obama’s experience in Ill? Bring it on…his record is mediocre at best and the affordable housing project was disasterous for the unadvantaged people of Chicago. Here’s Obama’s experience with a major city: According to the Boston Globe: “Grove Parc and several other prominent failures were developed and managed by Obama’s close friends and political supporters. Those people profited from the subsidies even as many of Obama’s constituents suffered. Tenants lost their homes; surrounding neighborhoods were blighted. “No one should have to live like this, and no one did anything about it,” said Cynthia Ashley, who has lived at Grove Parc since 1994.” That’s Obama’s most notable “accomplishment” in Ill. And Joan,Obama’s most notable accomplishment in the past 18 mo. is running against the Clintons? How naive of me not to realize that this qualifies him for the most important job in the US. Please, Diana, read Sarah Palin’s resume…this woman attacked the “good ole boys “of her own party and won. She refused earmarks from Congress, and even took a pay cut. She went after Big Oil and gave the proceeds back to the people. I’m floored that you would want to “trash” this woman. Granted, she may not have the foreign affairs experience but neither does Obama and he’s at the top of the ticket! Palin’s a quick study…at least she knows that Iran is NOT “a tiny country that will pose no problems.” BTW, her name is Sarah Pal”i”n…”a woman of substance.”

Governor Sarah Palin, 44, Named McCain's Running Mate

Isn’t it amazing, Marjorie that no one has asked what Obama’s qualifications are? As Hillary Clinton put it, “John McCain has a lifetime of experience that he brings to the White House and Senator Obama has a speech that he gave in 2002!” Sarah Palin may have only 20 mo. of experience but she did more in that executive capacity than Obama has done in 142 days in the Senate. Also, if you examine Obama’s performance in Ill, it is not impressive at all. “The best predictor of future performance is past performance.” Again I ask, what are Obama’s qualifications….I KNOW Sarah Palin’s!

Monica Crowley: Somewhere, Hillary Is Smiling

And Obama hasn’t changed? Answer me this, Susan: ” Obama has changed his mind on Iraq, reversed course on campaign finance, volte-faced on NAFTA and backtracked on Social Security. So what does the candidate of CHANGE really believe? On Social Security, too, Obama’s made “changes” in defining the class enemy. He raised his definition of “the rich” subject to his proposed 12.4% hike in taxes from anyone making $97,500 a year to those making $250,000. On policy, Obama gets even more chameleonic. We all remember how he vowed an immediate withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq. Iran was a tiny country that we didn’t have to worry about…he was going to sit down with no conditions with the terrorist leaders of the world. Now I get it….this is what Obama defines as “change!”

Marlo Thomas: They Don't Understand Women

Marlo, I’m assuming that you also felt disenfranchised by the DNC (WE) Do Not Count. As a Hillarty supporter, you were NOT angered that Barack Obama did not even VET Hillary Clinton for the 2nd spot on the ticket? It didn’t bother you that 18,000,000 voters were ignored and he decided to go with Joe Biden…one of the good ole boys??? Wow…I should be impressed but I’m extemely disappointed! I was furious and still am. John McCain’s choice of Sarah Palin was brilliant…this woman is an accomplished, competent and very impressive VP candidate. Check out her very credible credentials as she’s had 20 mo. of executive experience whereas Barack Obama has none! She is by far more experience than Obama and she’s on the BOTTOM half of the ticket! As Hillary once said…”I know John McCain has a lifetime of experiences to bring to the White House; Senator Obama has a speech.” I’m taking my cue from Hillary…I will be voting for the vetted, EXPERIENCED, honorable, bipartisan John McCain and his very capable “woman of substance”, Sarah Palin!

Monica Crowley: Somewhere, Hillary Is Smiling

Hallelujah, Monica! As a Hillary supporter who was “dis”enfranchised, I am delighted with John McCain’s choice! Sarah Palin has more executive experience to lead this country than Barack Obama wished he had. She’s an accomplished, capable, honest maverick! Not only is Hillary smiling, but Geraldine mentioned she’s rethinking her vote in Nov. I am so loving this! I’ll be voting for the vetted experienced bipartisan John McCain. This move was brilliant!!!
