The Blame Game: Why Is the Price of Gasoline Through the Roof?

All good points, Jackie. But unfortunately you’re trying to reason with someone who has an unreasonable mind. Illogic doesn’t understand logic. In short, this is a little man who probably doesn’t even believe most of the crap he posts on here. He just likes to start trouble. When are we going to start ignoring the little guy and just address the topics? This has become his personal woman-bashing forum, and I just don’t want us to continue to waste our valuable time and energy responding to him.

Michael, the little guy has to incite anger just to get attention from women who would otherwise cross the earth rather than come into contact with him. I mean, any time a person has to defend his statements and his existence by claiming that he’s attractive to women (excuse me, I’m laughing so hard my fingers are getting weak)…..pathetic. You know what I was wondering? How’s come the little guy no longer has a photo for his display image? Back to the topic at hand, I can’t help but recall reading about the bus boycotts caused by Mrs. Rosa Parks’ refusal to give up her seat. The blacks, who were the primary funding for the bus service, brought public transportation to its knees in that one town. The point is, to enforce a principle about which they felt very strongly, those working-class folks found ways to get to work. They carpooled, they rode bikes. I believe there is something we can do to bring Bush’s oil buddies to their knees. Stop relying on their overpriced fuel. Find other ways to get around. If enough people did it, Bush and his Arab friends would have no choice but to sit up and take notice.

Ms. McGinnis, there’s “differing points of view” and then there’s immature, hateful, woman-bashing little boys in men’s clothing who make deliberately inflammatory remarks only to garner attention from the mature, intelligent ladies on this site, which was DESIGNED FOR AND INTENDEND FOR *W*O*M*E*N*. And unlike many of the other women on this site, YOU enjoy the rabble-rousing, which says much about your intelligence and maturity. This is supposed to be a website about sisterhood, bonds between women, mature ladies sharing ideas and opinions; not - repeat - NOT - a single, lonely man who likes to cause trouble by insulting women and womanhood, and a lone, twisted girl-person who cheers him on . Say whatever drivel you wish in response. It means nothing to me, because you have zero credibility as far as I’m concerned.

What are you reading that you really love?

I recently read Marrying the Mistress by Joanna Trollope. A lovely book. And one of the few books I can read over and over is Lolita by V. Nabakov. Despite the distastefulness of HH’s pedophilia, it really is a funny, well-written book.

I totally agree with Marie and Kate. No matter how high they jack up the prices, Americans remain enslaved to their cars. If they can charge $3.50 a gallon, and continue to see record profits, why not charge $4.50? I have changed the way I use my car. Because there’s no public transportation available to get me to work, I use my car for my short commute ONLY. Everything else, I walk or use one of the convenient modes of public transport available here in Philly. Once I get home from work in the evening, that’s it, the car stays parked till the next morning. Also, I allow myself plenty of time, which gives me the luxury of driving gently. I don’t drive as aggressively as I used to, I keep to the speed limit…..it’s very relaxing. A tank of gas used to last me about a week. After altering my lifestyle, that same tank now lasts 2 weeks.

Please, please let’s not give this twerp the attention he so desperately craves. Ignore him. Please.

I’m with you, Peg. Ignore him, quit giving him the attention he so desperately seeks, and he’ll move on.

Senorita Garcia - same here. I’ve never tried, nor have I the desire, to try hard drugs. They scare me. I like to smoke a bowl before I clean or do dishes - my mind wanders, and before I know it, I have a sparkling clean kitchen/house/car/closet/refrigerator/garage…..I never, ever drive when I’m high, just like I would never drink and drive. But it sure does make the chores more fun! As for cocaine, or booze, or anything that requires shoving a needle into a vein, or pills…..no thanks. Legalize it! Time to recognize it!

Ariadne - good point. 500 thousand people high on alcohol…..shiver n shake. The cops would’ve stopped the concert before it began. Of course, there was a lot of acid being dropped at Woodstock too, and that garbage incapacitates more than provokes. But as Frank said, the music was loud, everyone was mellow, and all that pot was a heck of a lot safer than any quantity of booze would have been.

Le Ole Crone…..save yer preachin fer them what got less sense than ole ladies like you and me. I was just giving a for instance. I haven’t smoked pot all day in many many years. Simply a comparison between the way alcohol affects me and the way pot does. Preciate yer concern, tho.

A very disturbing statistic, RoseMerry!

What does the brain of someone who smokes 2 cigarettes a day for 25 years look like? Or the brain of someone who drinks 2 glasses of wine a day for 25 years? I’d rather have a few “pot holes” than holes in my liver from booze, or holes in my lungs from smoking the toxins in cigarettes.

I work with several VietNam vets. They all smoke pot - have done so for over 40 years now. They come to work every day, are in long-term relationships, raised successful well-educated kids, and are happy people. How many people can say that? And how many people who have been drinking regularly for 40+ years can say that? Alcohol is far more damaging than pot. And I wouldn’t want you to be me, either. I like being me. Now, pass the joint.
