Hi Candis, I don’t know. I understood it fine. Most of my friends voted not as well. I was shocked by the election. I am not going to make excuses but choose to focus on what strategies might work in the future. I think it is a case of the “opressed becoming the opressor.” Hiding behind the bible won’t help. I believe the bible supports the separation of church and state. People have always used their intepretations of the biblical word to support their own craziness. I think this would not have happened if we launched a culturally sensitve campaign that allowed these issues to surface before election day. Sadly, we missed it.

Kryssi K, What I truly believe happened what was there was lack of outreach and education in the Black and Latino communities. Like Obama, no vote should have been take for granted and left behind. As a Californian (Black, Heterosexual, Christian) who voted No on Prop 8, I was and am deeply saddened by the passage of the proposition. I personally argued the facts with members of my church and community. Many of them were simply swayed by the misinformation. I trust that it will be overturned by the courts and more efforts to educate minority communities will happen. It is a Civil Rights issue and if we make the effort to educate, we can move mountains.

Ms. Dee, I am floored everytime I hear and see them. Amazing songs and videos. What I find funny, in a sad sort of way, is that folk sometimes criticize others for being inspired by Obama and his message. Since when did hope and inspiration become a bad thing? Be well.

It is unfortunate that the subject is clothing. As women, I think we are not immune to criticism and should not expect a pass. It defeats our efforts. At the outset, folk were afraid to say anything negative about Palin and Clinton (Hillary) for fear that women voters would not appreciate it. I question whether that behavior serves us. We criticize men for $400 haircuts and why not criticize women for waistful spending as well? Should we expect special treatment?

Are you kidding? I want this hope hangover to last for a year. But I will try to recover from the 4 Lemon Drop Martinis I had last night. Yes We Did!

I have so many emotions this morning. But, last night I called my 24 year old nephew, a college grad and school teacher. He was celebrating with several of his friends and it was noisy. I asked him how it felt to be a Black man in America and he said, “Auntie it feels real good. Barack is the new standard for the Black man.” I can’t tell you how that moved me. The idea that a simple notion like hope could quite possibly turn a generation around was, mind boggling. That they could think about anything other than pretty girls shook me. lol. Barack My World!
