What have you let fall off your radar this election season?

Carol, Sorry about your brother too, that’s even worse because my brother and I were great pals in 20’s, 30’s even buying property together….like you, I know it will always be with us. You’ll have to rent/house swap for a boathouse in Sausalito or some other terrific place for six months. Incredible deals there off-season and a great place to live. And what’s better than a dog and living by the water. :)

Obama's Speech: "If Anyone Still Doubts America Is A Place Where All Things Are Possible..." (Video)

EKA, No, October Suprise….but with Obama’s win the GOP’s got their “Shock and Awe.”

A Style Quiz From the Etceterist

Yahoo featured a poll on the dress….about a 1/3 loved it, 1/3 didn’t, and 1/3 didn’t care.

What have you let fall off your radar this election season?

Elizabeth, “Prop 8, but that is not over, not by a long shot.” With San Francisco’s City Atty on it….he is one heck of an effective, relentless fighter and Gavin Newsom is not going to roll over on this either….his signature cause.

What have you let fall off your radar this election season?

It’s not what let fall off this election season, but the last 6 months have not been anywhere close to usual level of discipline about time/work, including with the presidential campaign. Since self-employed it’s costly so need to get with it. I exhausted myself by completing a 3-year program in 18 months along with writing a book, two operations, client work, and then shattered foot and brother died. Just kind of went semi-pfft for awhile….but am too admiring of self-discipline and concrete results to let that continue. Tonight, I met a young couple who sold everything, quit their jobs, bought a sailboat and are sailing for a year just for the experience and to think. I’ve always been good at ‘living my loves’, if decide to move somewhere, or do something, do it. My brother’s very unnecessary death, and after being so successful his entire life and indeed living his loves with his beautiful home on the lake, his own multi-million dollar company, sailing every night, etc, has been very unsettling. He was the ultimate all American guy, super responsible, witty and did everything right. How does this happen. He had it all and it went kaplooey. Marcus Aurelius said “Life is a river of passing events.” Today, it’s more like a river of competing, distracting and fascinating events…happening and reported at warp speed, after the last 8 nightmare years of Bush Inc, and with the added dimension of existing in cyberspace, too. One must have crystalline clarity about what is most valuable, what need to see/be/do to feel life is well spent and get to it.

What's the one thing you plan to give up to save money? What's the one thing you won't give up?

Overall need to reign it in and jot down every item/expense to become more aware of where it’s going. The last week has been $$$$ which could have been better spent.

J. Stephens, Thanks for your petty, narrow minded, superficial perspective……life is a lot more complicated than your neat little projections. And your degree in sociology/Black History is from which university? Those of us who complimented McCain’s speech did so in part to be concillatory while being relieved that he wasn’t elected….it takes a special kind of jacka$$ to rain on the parade as you have. Isn’t Free Republic missing one of its comrades today? Again, I thank God I am not a Republican.

Jennifer, I like Sherry, too, she’s a doll and felt sorry for her crying (the vid was on HuffPo). Wish I’d been at Gladstones for Fish in Malibu this evening. Instead (there are no real restaurants in Shell Beach where am visting) we went to Pismo Beach…no real restaurants there either, but everyone in the restaurant was talking about the election in happy, excited tones…could hear it all the time we were there…people seemed elated.

Esther- My mother is in her 70s and she says that too….she just loves the Obamas….she is so happy. So when they say whites over 65 voted for McCain…..I know plenty who did not.

DeB- Very good esp “The Bush years have clearly been a period of regression. The repudiation of those years is now almost universal. Even conservatives are admitting it; over the course of today, I’ve received numerous emails from conservatives ending with some variation on “Go Obama!” I’ve heard that too from Republicans, on air and my brother-in-law who taught at the USAF Academy, is in defense, lives in redneck Colorado Springs, a lifelong Republican—-voted for Obama.

Whoopi Goldberg: We Have Finally Become Part of the Fabric of the United States of America

Oh! A friend who looks a lot like Mrs. Obama, tall, fit, beautiful and also an attorney…once said when we were talking about the layout of WDC and monuments that none of those mean anything for her….a bunch of dead white guys that excluded her. I had never thought of that until she said it….now that is changed, too. I have no doubt that Obama will be one of the best presidents this country has ever had. Definitely an FDR/JFK.

Candelaria, You’re so right “Statesman” elegant, intelligent, thoughtful, competent…..the precise opposite of Bush Inc.

Dona, “adding your name to my Wow Racist list” I don’t know why they don’t stay over on Free Republican or on a Fox News Blog with their fellows…..which reminds me. The McCain audience last night at the Biltmore…..a sea of white faces.

Great story, Phyllis….I’ve never had sweet potatoe pie….sounds good. Obama is soul food for me ;)

Barack Hussein Obama Wins Historic Election; Will Become 44th President of The United States of America

Agyness, I would love to see Paul Krugman Sec of Treasury too. Brilliant, hadn’t thought of it. “we are witnesses to a “new world” and the reset button has been pushed by people all over the globe.” Great way to characterize it. Howard Fineman was on tonight saying that for Obama the ultimate is brains and competence. We are in the best possible of hands after enduring the dimwit of the first order….so right.
