Barack Hussein Obama Wins Historic Election; Will Become 44th President of The United States of America

Thanks TIck, I love HuffPo and read it everyday. Actually used to live next door to Arianna Huffington on Riven Rock Rd in Montecito. Am thoroughly impressed with her. “…..astonishing, appalling ignorance.” Some of everything—consider the source and ignore it. We were forced to live an 8 year nightmare that Paul Krugman called the “time of the monsters” in his NYT column today. And now it’s a whole new era and the world is elated. I’ll look for you on HuffPo. Do you post under Tick Pyne?

Joan Juliet Buck: 'This Was the Reverse of 9/11'

Joan, I always savor your brilliant posts. I’ve thought of Thomas Jefferson/JFK etc like Pericles and the last 8 years of Bush Inc of like living through Pyrrhus ending the Golden Age of Greece. Impossibly painful, and as Paul Krugman called it today the time of the Monsters. I am stunned that the nightmare is over. We’ve been freed from an alternative crazy universe and it’s as if electromagnatics was rediscovered all over again, and I’m so looking forward to a JFK-ish new age of arts and smarts. Obama is truly our savior. Brilliantly strategic, in execution and brilliant communicator. O happy day.

Post-election nerves” aren’t the main factor in a stock market that’s been widely swinging for sometime and because of Bush policies; Today: “”I think what is happening in the market is a continuation of really the last few weeks,” said Subodh Kumar, global investment strategist at Subodh Kumar & Associates in Toronto. “The markets are still incorporating the slowdown in the global economy.” Worries about the financial sector intensified after Goldman Sachs Group Inc. began to notify about 3,200 employees globally that they have been lost their jobs as part of a broader plan to slash 10 percent of the investment bank’s work force, a person familiar with the situation said. The cuts were first reported last month. Goldman fell 8 percent, while other financial names like Citigroup Inc. fell 14 percent. Commodities stocks also fell after steelmaker ArcelorMittal said it would slash production because of weakening demand. Its stock plunged 21.5 percent. Although the market expected Obama to win the election, as the session wore on investors were clearly worrying about the weakness of the economy and pondered what the Obama administration might do to help it. Analysts said the market is already anxious about who Obama selects as the next Treasury Secretary, as well as who he picks for other Cabinet positions Analysts said investors were also uneasy in advance of the Labor Department’s October employment report, to be issued on Friday. Economists on average expect a 200,000 drop in payrolls, according to Thomson/IFR. Employers have been slashing jobs after a freeze-up in the credit markets crippled many companies’ ability to get financing. Late-day selling by hedge funds helped deepen the market’s losses during the last hour. More selling by the funds is expected to weigh on the market ahead of a Nov. 15 cutoff for shareholders to notify fund managers of their intent to cash out investments before year-end.”

A Style Quiz From the Etceterist

ML -She definitely represents more that a fashion plate….but she is that too and that’s exciting….and there’s also economic benefit to the American fashion industry when the First Lady is young, beautiful, intelligent and fashionable as Michelle is…..she is genuine like Jackie. Look forward to years of great looks. To me she is very exciting like Jackie and that helps America’s image too.

Whoopi Goldberg: We Have Finally Become Part of the Fabric of the United States of America

Well, we all have Black lineage….that’s just fact. This is much more historic for me than President-elect Obama being black….it’s that Americans woke up and saved America and proved the American Dream is alive and well. We rescued our image in the world. Some super brain will write all we have achieved in this election. It is monumental. And it started in JFK/RFK/MLK,Jr. When President Obama gives his speech Jan 20th….he will have the brightest men of the 18th C Thomas Jefferson, et al behind him, as well as JFK/RFK/MLK, Jr and all the ordinary heroes from throughout the history of our nation behind him. He is the culmination of millions of magnificent dreams, and the start of a whole new world. The entire thing is spectacular. 76 days to Jan 20th.

Whoopi Goldberg: We Have Finally Become Part of the Fabric of the United States of America

Iris….It is a GREAT day to be alive. A day of celebration around the world. Tremendously exciting that Americans reclaimed their country from the NeoCons. We’ve refuted what went before and vindicated the American Dream. The energy is palable.

Nobel Prize winning economist, Paul Krugman, wrote in his NYT column today that “the monster years are over.” Exactly how I feel. The sense of relieve is incredible. The REAL America the Beautiful is back, bigger, brighter, ever: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CILIBlQ2D0Q http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Irf9bck5LQ President-elect Obama just saved Brand America all around the world.

Ditto Marva!!! One of our nation’s greatest economist (and a Nobel Prize winner) Paul Krugman wrote in his NYT column today that the ‘Monster years are over.’ Amen to that.

That isn’t a crash…it’s a blip and a minor one at that. This entire post is absolutely ridiculous. The US Economy since Hoover has ALWAYS performed better under Democrats and it will again. Obama just saved Brand America in the world. Really, silly silly silly post. And that’s coming from someone who called the real crash, and who has worked for a major Wall Street investment banking firm and was a registered stock broker on all exchanges. Just plain ridiculous post.

Paul Krugman wrote in his column today that the “monster years are over.” I have felt them so heavily and so relieved and elated. We have been set free. America the Beautiful is back. I am not a fan of Condi Rice but she made an excellent short speech here on Obama’s win: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HeOWnmL-Rbs

Billy Norwich's 10 Things To Do To Cure Your Election Hangover

DV—-a hero. Loved the book and the play (although in SF and not NY where the casting was better.) Michelle needs her own DVDV was so helpful as a mentor to Jackie. I didn’t get all the champagne was planning to drink last night so no hangover…..too much on the TV remote/cell phone/laptop and laughing/dancing/clapping and generall going nuts with friends. As Paul Krugman wrote in his column today….we’ve been freed from the monster years….and as a huge JFK/Jackie fan….I’ll endured them very heavily. This is a great new day and thanks for you witty piece, Billy!
