The Dow closed at an all-time high a year ago today. How has the current financial free fall impacted your portfolio or savings?

Liz, “Everyone in the U.S.– and even many in the world – will suffer from the downfall of America, the world’s used-to-be leading nation.” Excepting the hedge fund types and investment bankers who percipitated this with their deregulated spectacular greed. They locked-in their golden payoffs while also begging for bailouts. And OJ went to prison for armed robbery. Give me a break. The uber intelligent Economist’s September cover summed up the crisis in two words: http://consumerist.com/5059758/the-economist-sums-up-financial-crisis-oh… That rather says it all, especially coming from The Economist. They also did a major poll of economist who overwhelming back Obama for president.

Paulson and Bernanke Should Listen to McCain’s Economic Plan, by Liz Peek

The Economist, you know, the leading econ mag in the world, polled economist who widely favor Obama. So let’s see, Liz Peek whose husband is a NYC Banking CEO recommends that crooks like Paulson, should listent to McCain, and vice versa, both major parts of the reason for our financial woes having both consistently pushed for unfettered deregulation. Gee, that just makes so much good sense. [can google the poll is printed widely] “The Economist magazine surveyed members of the prestigious National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) and responders overwhelmingly think Obama far surpasses McCain in his grasp of economics and think Obama’s plan is superior. These numbers are truly staggering! NBER is the cream of the crop…key excerpts from the Economist writeup: “Even among Republicans Mr Obama has the edge: 46% versus 23% say Mr Obama has the better grasp of the subject.“ comments James Harrigan at the University of Virginia ..“John McCain has professed disdain for ‘so-called economists’, and for some the feeling has become mutual,” says Erik Brynjolfsson, a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Sloan School of Management. “Obama’s team is mainstream and non-ideological but extremely talented.” “Mr Obama, says Jonathan Parker, a non-aligned professor at Northwestern’s Kellogg School of Management, “is a pragmatist not an ideologue. I expect Clintonian economic policies.” “Twice as many economists think Mr McCain’s plan would be very bad for long-run growth as Mr Obama’s. Given how much focus Mr McCain has put on his plan’s benefits for growth, this last is quite a repudiation.

Who won round 2 of the presidential debates last night?

FP, Gator is baiting you. Ignore. Obama is winning 11-4…everyone knows it. Those voting for McCain-Palin aren’t interested in facts.

Who won round 2 of the presidential debates last night?

The NYT and other major media today and the US Secret Service are all after Palin for inciting racism….she went too far and people were screaming ‘kill him” etc at her ‘talks’ now the Secret Service is investigating.

Who won round 2 of the presidential debates last night?

FP, My pleasure, have known several Vietnam/Korea War Navy combat pilots…none who crashed planes, and Alaska, as a prominent Canadian broadcaster said is a sparsely polulated state of drunks and crazy people. David Brooks (conservative) said today she is unfit, the NYT said the McCain campaign is appalling, and Senator Hagel’s wife (prominent GOP) is joining Susan Eisenhower in endorsing Obama. David Brooks also said in the times he met Obama blown away with his intelligence…in their conversations.

Who won round 2 of the presidential debates last night?

FP, Obama won overwhelmingly in all polls and he will win Nov 4. Don’t waste energy on myopics. The country is about to leave them behind in their delusions, you should too.

Sarah Palin to Make 'Saturday Night Live' Appearance?

The New York Times has called the McCain campaign one of the the most appalling in US history. What Palin is now doing is inciting violence and racist hatred amongst her Neandrathal supporters against Obama. It is despicable.

Sarah Palin to Make 'Saturday Night Live' Appearance?

Well it is a comedy show, and she’s a gigantic joke, albeit a very bad one.

Do your families have any stories of surviving the Great Depression and, if so, how did they influence you?

My grandmother’s family was well off so her stories were about what was happening all around them, and how they tried to help. Her father was a well known politician and developer of brick ‘bungalows’ as they called them. He let long time renters stay in the houses for what little they could afford and often for free. He told them to come to their kitchen door for food. As a result of seeing so much hardship in the country as young people, my parent’s were respectful and never profligate with money. Although we had a beautiful home and nice things, my sense of extravagence came from things like a large rose garden that kept the house full of blooms, the aroma of cookies being baked, music and singing, lots of good books, wonderful holidays. Secruity, warmth, togetherness and safety.

Who won round 2 of the presidential debates last night?

The Obamas won….they are the team for the future. The McCains represent the failed past.
