Thanks for telling me about this. I still want to know, however, if we (our country) called one HillaryCare and the upcoming change ObamaCare, why wasn’t Bush’s change called BushCare? I see a difference in the area of respect. IMHO.

I am fascinated that Peek calls this health care plan "Obamacare". According to that, the last person who tried to help change the health care program in this country was Hillary Clinton and it should be called "HillaryCare". Well, sure enough, I googled HillaryCare and goodness, there it was. The Republicans had called it HillaryCare. Going one step further, I googled BushCare to see if President Bush had tried to help the health care system. There was a whole page devoted to Bushcare, but it involved something in Australia. Here’s what Bushcare involves:

I think I’d rather try ObamaCare. If that’s what we’re going to call it, I’ll deal with that rather than BushCare.

Phyllis, you are quoting the quote from Peek that I too found very "elitist" at the very least. She wants people to take responsibility for their own health. I think that’s fine, but she does not take into account people born with severe disabilities like cerebral palsy or people who develop diseases due to inheriting bad genes which eventually come to light after years of a healthy life. Peek acts as if everything is so simple and so "black and white". It’s just too easy to think like that instead of having to sort out all the complications people in real life have to deal with. And I too would like to know what alternative plans the GOP has that would be so much better than our present system or the one these committees on health will eventually come up with. I think they should "speak up". But in speaking up, remember to include EVERYBODY, not just the ones who are "not exercising, not eating correctly, smoking and/or not watching their weight".

I agree with you, Maggie. The present system is not adequate and leaves a lot of people out. If they have to pay out of pocket b/c no insurance, they could be financially ruined. Even those of us who do have health insurance still sometimes have outrageous co-pays. Something has to be done so we don’t continue to look like a nation who only provides health care to some, but is willing to let others fall to the wayside. And by the way, why do you think Ms Peek is calling the President “Obamaca”? Is that another way to show disrespect?

Lily, I sent a donation for this cause a little while ago. I have heard about the sanctuary in Tennessee and want very badly for the zoo elephants to be sent there. With the high degree of media sources now, there is no way children can’t look to t.v. or some other source to see what elephants look and sound like. They no longer need to see them in zoos. How terribly painful it is to see these magnificent creatures imprisoned! Though my donation was small, I did what I could to help right now. Bless you for your efforts!

Wow, Sam, that was a terribly sad commentary from that medical student! I care what she said. I’m not sure we can ever trust what comes out of this "election" they had. I do, however, agree with Joan that we are not in a position to fix anything. I’ve been seeing things like this happen since I was a little girl watching wounded men be carried out on stretchers with blood coming from them when the Korean war was happening. It always affects me viscerally but to this day, there’s nothing I know I can do about it. Caring and hoping they will stop treating their own people so horribly is what I can do. Thanks for posting that message from the medical student.
