Mary Wells's Sickening Experience

Mary Wells, I went through the six weeks radiation on my throat.  Couldnt eat, had dry heaves and the worst mouth taste I ever imagined.  Lost 100 lbs in 3 months, had a dead salivary gland so couldnt make much moisture (still cant).  I know what you mean.  Radiation works but it takes a toll.

Sarah Palin and the Celebrity of Politics

Love the comment that Sarah Palin is extremely accident prone in the intellectural department. But people have short memories.  Hope someone remembers that next presidential election time.

Suspect in Model Jasmine Fiore's Murder, Ryan Jenkins, Found Dead in Canada Hotel Room (Video)

Have seen this method of identification on cop shows.  Also, if used implants are sold in some unscrupulous countries, it can be traced.  Isnt modern science amazing?

Don Hewitt, My Boss at '60 Minutes,' by Lesley Stahl

Sometime constructive criticism wakes you up to the fact you may not be doing something quiet right for your persona.  If no one ever tells you then you might never know some change can really make you look much better.  Also there might be a good reason a person wears what they do, such as dark stockings to hide leg imperfections and longer hair to keep warm.  If it is presented in a helpful manner then a person shouldnt be insulted and should consider it.  Of course husbands know the trouble they can get into when they hear do these pants make me look fat.  Oh oh

'Art & Copy': A Documentary That Captures the Craft of Advertising (Photos)

Wow, this should be a fantastic documentary.  We very seldom get to see the people behind the ads.  Cant wait to see this one.

Whew, I thought the mall was two miles East?

Liz Smith: Casting About for Kate Winslet's 'Mildred Pierce'

Liz, I know you like Lindsey Lohan, but she doesnt have the chops for a big role like this.

Brain Aerobics With Dr. Paul Nussbaum

Dr. Nussbaum didnt mention shrinking of the brain and white matter. How does this affect the older brain.  I read too much white matter can cause dementia, too little MS.  But just enough works as a conduit for the brain to pass info to the nerves (?).  How much can the brain shrink before it is a problem?  Any comments?

Run for Your Life: The Story of the 75-Year-Old Ultramarathoner

Elaine Breiger hit that fork in the road, and took the path running that would change her life.  A lot of us have to make that choice and find an outlet for our grief and pain.  It takes many different directions and Im glad to read that Elaine found what would work for her.

How My World Was Shattered, by Luanne Rice

When my marriage was going bad I, of course, blamed myself.  Met with a preacher (who counseled prisoners).  Instead of sympathy he told me (sternly) to stop taking the blame from a master maneuverer.  He said when an argument started, just shut up because he would know how to push my buttons and when he achieved what he wanted, he would walk out and spend the night with his buddies or ladies.  Then he would come back all contrite, just to do it again when he was in the mood.

In the meantime I was a wreck.  This was the best advice I had ever gotten.  Dont feed into it, it will empower you after a while and when I finally broke the relationship I felt relief instead of sorrow.  This advice works with husbands, sisters, mothers and friends.

Luanne, am glad you have your books.  I read them and enjoy.

The New Text-Messaging Guidelines, by Sybil Adelman Sage

Gee Obediah, I am glad you dont text and drive.  That is a step in the right direction. Just make sure it isnt in the direction of a teenager who is texting.  By the way, it is illegal in California to talk or text while driving and, hopefully, more states will follow.

The New Text-Messaging Guidelines, by Sybil Adelman Sage

Obediah, just because the car practically drives itself doesnt mean the one behind the wheel, gives up control.  We may be old but we still want someone to pay attention when we are trying to cross the street so they dont run us over.  Youth doesnt mean giving up common sense whatever generation you are in.  Besides what makes you think what you have to say is so important it cant wait 10 minutes.

Donna, I agree conversational skills are going downhill.  However, even though I have spent a great deal of my life dealing with people, it seems that a lot of counter people are rude, or just totally inept in dealing with people so I dont want to talk to them anymore.  It is a lot easier to order something by e-mail and only deal with the delivery person for a few seconds.  And, if you try a little humor with some clerks, they look at you like you are from Mars.  Is it youth or lack of social skills?  Whatever it is it is getting to be a whole lot easier to deal with the computer.

You would think it would be common sense but many a person almost got run over by people who are preoccupied with their cell phones.  If they miss you, the nice ones kind of wave and acknowlege that maybe they will get you next time.  It is a scary world out there.

Mary Wells: Cash for Clunkers Won't Save the U.S. Economy

It seems to me if there is a power outage then you cant power up your car with an all electric car.  What ever happened to solar power as an adjunct to gasoline or even electricity?  I do seem to remember solar panels as being too heavy to be effective but does anyone know if there is anything being done in this direction?  Seems to me, as long as we have a sun that is working, we should be looking at solar power cars.
