Announcing the Winner of Our 'Caption This' Contest

Cindi Roberts caption is very clever.  I actually like it better than the winner although that is pretty darn good too.  These caption things are fun and I hope you keep them up.

No, Not the Shoes!

My ENT said that whatever broke is not fixable by surgery unless I get a coclear implant and wear some kind of gadget on my head.  Since I have one good ear I am not having any problems yet I get along nicely (almost).  In fact, at night if the neighbors are noisy, I can turn on my good ear and not hear a thing while I sleep.  I am a glass half full kind of person.

No, Not the Shoes!

Glad to hear you are getting part of your hearing back.  I was in a bus accident and my head hit the bar behind the driver and broke something in one of my ears.  Needless to say I am now deaf on one side.  But the infections came anyway.  Interestingly (to me anyway) is the fact that my ear injury is the same as if I was beaten  up in a domestic violence situation.  If I didnt tell the doctor (and show proof I was dealing with the bus company) the docs would have had to contact the police.  Now that is another whole topic but I was shocked that even was considered.

James, you coded for 4-1/2 mins?  Wow, that is really low blood pressure,  I know, I know, that isnt funny but do you remember any of it?  That is a long time to be hovering between here and there.  Did you see the tunnel or any of your relatives?  When I go under, all I remember is being back in my hospital bed.  Luckily, my ear surgery was just a needle to let some bottled up infection out.  Infection seems to be my middle name now that my immune system is shot to hell.

James you made me laugh because right now I am taking water pills (Lasix) to reduce swelling in my leg and have to take potassium to countermand that and the beat goes on.  Salt REALLY helps me retain water and affects my blood pressure also as one leads to another.  So, enjoy your salt and sweets but take your blood pressure occasionally so you dont blow yourself out of the water with an unexpected stroke.

No, Not the Shoes!

Have given up a lot of things but that is because, as I age, I can no longer tolerate a whole bunch of stuff.  For instance, gave up smoking when I started to cough, got cancer anyway and with radiation that killed a salivary gland, gave up things like crackers and candy because they are dry and hard to chew and swallow.  As for shoes, now that I am older, my feet swell up and I am more or less stuck with athletic shoes.  Couldnt stand in a high heel anyway.  So enjoy your twenty something self and wear those shoes with pride because some day your feet wont fit in them anymore and your toes will hurt if you try but you will have great memories.

Are there things you would never tell your best friend, but would tell your doctor? And vice versa?

Susan, another advantage to a list is that you have all the things that may concern you at your fingertips.  This way you dont leave the office thinking you should have asked about something you overlooked.  Since my appts are about 3 months apart, it is a long time to the next one to have missed something.  And, even though each doctor has a different specialty, my vascular surgeon was interested in my MRI for my head just to see the general state of my health.  As he said, he was interested in the other end but it is nice to see what each end is doing.

Do you drink coffee?

Love my coffee in the morning.  When I am ambitious I use a single cup maker with a filter and slowly pour water over the coffee and make my individual cup.  When Im lazy I just use Tasters Choice Gourmet.  Either way if I miss my morning coffee, my day just never seems to get started.

Are there things you would never tell your best friend, but would tell your doctor? And vice versa?

When you have several doctors you see on a regular basis, the best thing to do is realize their time is precious even though they may seem like they enjoy your company so I make a list of things to cover and go through them, ask my questions and settle any uncertainties I might have.  Then if any of my lady friends has a question I can answer I pass on what I learned.  Love the term organ recitals and will have to remember that for my next discourse on whatever ailment comes up for discussion.

Have you traded in a car for cash as part of the Cash for Clunkers program?

I voted other because I never owned a car.  Not that I was that environmental conscious, but my blood pressure went up dangerously dealing with the other drivers out there (and I am sure they thought the same of me).
