Laura Bush is an educated, aware woman. I can’t imagine how the last eight years have been, being married to uneducated George, with two young daughters. I bet his dad regrets buying him that Yale degree.

Hear hear! I don’t think you sound mean. We have much work to do here. It’s good to help women in other countries. It’s not good to ignore our own. Hopefully education will be more in fashion now that we have a leader who understands how important it is.

Ms. Dee, I agree. These good people are sacrificing so much to help our country. It would be nice if we respected their privacy once in awhile.

I watch Fareed’s program every Sunday. He asks questions of the finest, most civilized leaders and scholars from around the world. It comforts me to know that there are such brilliant people, working to improve our world peacefully.

I live in Michigan, and I appreciate Olbermann. A lie came out awhile ago about auto workers here earning 70 dollars an hour. I knew immediately it was a lie. He cleared that up today, and explained how the liar came up with the number. Actually the pay level is between 20 and 30 dollars. It’s good to have someone who knows the facts.

Elaine, I too love Paula Deen. I make her cornbread dressing every Thanksgiving. She has the holiday spirit throughout the year.

This is why we should separate church from state. No woman wants to have an abortion. There are conditions in some women’s lives that make abortion the only way to save the child from the torture the mother is enduring. It’s comfortable to imagine that every woman has a safe life. Unfortunately it’s not true.

If she wrote a book about what it was really like to live with George for the last eight years, I would read it. She won’t do that, because it would hurt the feelings of her husband and daughters.

This is so sad. It happens every winter in the northern states. I hope we will learn to take better care of each other with Obama in charge.

Thanks Kermie, I didn’t know how to respond to this garbage. You did it perfectly. I’ll listen to Pro Life people, when I know they’re teaching their girls how to not get pregnant, and when they work hard to help families in poverty. Talk is cheap. Self righteousness is disgusting.

Kermie, I can totally relate. The survival instinct is what allows many children to grow up and create a safe home for themselves and their children, if they dare to have children. I too have a sister who’s spirit broke because of childhood stress. Bless those neighbors who helped you.

I enjoy Thanksgiving much more than Christmas. People really do feel thankful for their blessings. We have always gone to my Mom and Dad’s for Thanksgiving, but they are in their mid eighties now, and last year the turkey was so done, it was like turkey jerky. It reminded me of the smoking turkey in the Christmas Vacation movie with Chevy Chase, my favorite holiday movie. They have become very careful with their health, so there was no salt or butter in anything. It is possible to ruin mashed potatoes. This year we are all going to my sister’s! I am taking Southern Cornbread Dressing, which has been a family tradition since 1965, when a friend from Georgia first shared it with us. Thanks again. I enjoyed your article.

Lena, Please allow me to share my experience with you, so that maybe your next year will be happier. I too live with depression. I used to pray, all the time. I still pray, but in a more grateful way. After years of struggle, I found my way to a mother earth psychiatrist. I told her what I was always thinking, and she prescribed a drug that made me not think that way anymore. After about two weeks, I looked up at the sky and saw how beautiful it was. My brain chemistry had not been right. I can look back in my family and see a long line of people struggling with the same problem. I have always appreciated my psychiatrist’s many years of study. She could see that my thinking wasn’t normal and prescribe something that opened my eyes to the beauty of the world. Hopelessness is not normal for a healthy woman. I don’t mean to be intrusive, but you struck a chord in my heart.
