Tom Brokaw: It Makes Feminists Crazy, but Palin Is a Tribute to Women's Movement

Lily, I have friends who graduated from female universities and colleges. Ironically, all of them predicted that I would be the leader of a feminst movement. Go figure on that:) There was a recent article about Roe vs. Wade and I think you should research that. You maybe surprise about what “she” regrets. Research on the emotional, physical and psychological consequences when you have an abortion. Research on a group called Feminist for Life. I have a grandmother who is 81 years old that raised me and perhaps she can inform you a little about feminism. JUst FYI- I am in my 30’s, earned two degrees and if you were to research my name you may feel abit uneasy with what you just posted. Especially what I’ve done in the ARTS. Let me stress EVERYONE has the right to an opinion and that includes Tom Brokaw.

Lily, I do think it’s odd that you can make an assessment like the one you just made. Clarification please.

Melanie- Your comment says alot more about you than Tom or Gov. Palin. Do you respect women in general who disagree with your point-of-view? Do you talk this way about other women? Do you want women like Gov. Palin or Sen. Clinton to become successful? Are you jealous of women who maybe more successful than yourself? How old are you by the way?

Whoopi Goldberg: We Have Finally Become Part of the Fabric of the United States of America

Sherry (this will be a long post)- I understand what you mean. To be blunt, I am disappointed in alot of women in general. I think we have a long way to go and that was evident watching the View for example. It was like a hammer or a knife hitting my heart and my mind. When I saw the shows such as the View, listening to the radio, reading 100’s and 100’s of posts by women trying to rip apart BOTH the spirit of both Gov. Sarah Palin and Sen. Hillary Clinton. I was shocked by Gloria Steinem a woman who I looked up when I was a little girl. I’ve been disappinted by NOW because it seems that it is not an organization for women only for a certain type of political party. Very strange. You know what I found out this year if you believe in pro-life then you are anti-women. You are cast away as a traitor and that you are evil. I think that is rather sad. You are not considered part of the sisterhood or a feminist if you are not a liberal democrat. There were posts from women who NEVER been in the political field commented that both Palin and Clinton aren’t behaving like women. You know I have friends who are cops, doctors, engineers, government employees, soldiers etc and they also notice “the type of conduct” by fellow women. Guess what like Palin and Clinton they are just doing their jobs! Does it matter what preference of clothes they wear be it pants or skirts? So Gov. Palin is pretty so that disqualifies and discredits the fact that she was a Mayor, Governor and former VP candidate? So Sen. Clinton is an older woman so that disqualifies and discredits the fact that she was a Senator and possible Presidential candidate for the Democratic Party? We had two female candidates for 2008 and instead of cheering and supporting. What did the majority of women do? And what did little girls notice (guess what they did)? I had to talk to a crying 9 year old girl on the street yesterday after her mom could not calm her down. The bottem line was about the election process. I was very surprise hearing it from a 9 year old girl. I gave her a hug (after asking her mom if it was okay) and the best words/truth I can come up with is this “There will be a time in your life that you will be tested by others and even yourself. It won’t be like a math test-it will be something bigger. And you know-you may get hated by it-people may call you names etc…but I can tell you that what I see is a very strong spirit in you. And sometimes you have to do what you have to do.” The reason why she was crying is because a couple of kids (including girls by the way) drew a picture of a hunged woman that looked like Palin. Used their pencils to punch holes in it. Hate destroys doesn’t it? Seriously, think about this. Think about the big picture and the future of your daughters. Women are part of society and I am so damn tired of some women (not all) blaming all their problems on men. The negative conduct and reactions by some WOMEN was a modernize withhunt from Salem. Can we agree that we can disagree however still respect ourselves and fellow women? The saddest comment I got was a friend who told me “that when you reach the level of success it will be women who will hate you the most. You are pretty, you are hispanic but you look white, you are not black, you are petite and athletic, you are pro-life, you worked hard on everything and never once asked for a handout. Gay men will love you and most men will respect you. Most women won’t.” I really pray that you all will never get that comment said to you or to your daughters. I may get slam for posting this but you know what do I have to lose by it really. I still respect women even those who may not respect themselves or others. I think the name for it is “love”. Thank you.

Tom Brokaw: It Makes Feminists Crazy, but Palin Is a Tribute to Women's Movement

Great Post! Thank you. I just hope that women stop beating up other women like discrediting Gov. Sarah Palin’s acheivements because you may disagree with her political affiliation. I really want more women in politics who are qualified like Gov. Palin or Sen. Clinton. So ladies start running for Mayor then run for Senator or Governor. You will realize that it’s not easy and if you read posts that try to discredit you remember the reasons why you or your friends try to discredit Gov. Palin. Remember there are younger generation of women watching and reading. Everything comes full circle.

3 Reasons Why Some Women Hate Sarah Palin

Here are a few reasons why some women hate Gov. Sarah Palin (and why I like her): 1) She is a pro-life conservative Republican feminist. 2) She is younger and more successful that Sen. Clinton was at her age. 3) She has more EXECUTIVE experience than Obama. Other items (sad but true from the various posts by some women): Jealousy, cattiness the old Queen Bee syndrome. Low self-esteem. Comparing her acheivements to their acheivements resulting in resentment. Why her and not Hillary? She’s pretty, happily married with children and successful. She is not part of the elite. Not your average politician-she actually gets things done. Hardworking and did not marry into politics. A new kind of modern feminst.

Tom Brokaw: It Makes Feminists Crazy, but Palin Is a Tribute to Women's Movement

Why did Obama not pick Sen. Clinton as his VP? She is qualified correct? She had what 18 million votes correct?

Tom Brokaw: It Makes Feminists Crazy, but Palin Is a Tribute to Women's Movement

Sarah- Sarah N- I wish affirmative action did not exist however I understand why it does. Explain the definition of token. How are you more qualified to be VP? Have you been a Mayor, Senator, Governor? I am not complaining. I am trying to understand. That’s it. Take care.

Tom Brokaw: It Makes Feminists Crazy, but Palin Is a Tribute to Women's Movement

Molly- You nailed that one. It’s sad. There was one post that I read “that just because Gov. Palin is pretty, has kids, works outside the home, has been elected Mayor, now active Governor, worked her way while going to school-she is not one of us and is not a “real woman”.” I have to differ with this statement. Gov. Palin is a “real woman” with more EXECUTIVE experience than Obama. Ask any political science professor because I have. Once again to all, look up the definition of feminism. Thank you.

Tom Brokaw: It Makes Feminists Crazy, but Palin Is a Tribute to Women's Movement

Susan and to fellow readers- Explain to me what your definition of feminism is. Explain to me what your definition of what a feminst is. After doing so then look up the word feminism and feminist and compare your definition. Also where you born in the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s, 80’s or 90’s? Just curious. Much respect.

Tom Brokaw: It Makes Feminists Crazy, but Palin Is a Tribute to Women's Movement

Ladies. Seriously to those who have a “beef” with Gov. Sarah Palin-what is up with that? Have you ever lived in Alaska? It’s a man’s man state. I like Palin and she does not share all the same political views that I have. Guess what the same goes for Clinton. We’ve had two female politicians this year and instead of excitement. I’ve seen from most (not all) female posters in several sites/blogs- anger, resentment, jealousy, cattiness….ladies why do you elect to do this (no one is making you act this way) and what are you teaching your daughters and sons. Guess what they notice. The reason why women aren’t as successful as they could be is due to fellow women. So what can you do about this? Seriously take time to think about it. Women comment on male politician’s all the time then why is it a big deal for Brokaw to do the same. I am a minority liberal feminst however I vote for the best candidate for our Country. I am voting for McCain largely because of Palin. She is a feminist-a conservative one. If you look up the word feminism it’s a beautiful definition. In no way is feminism defined as a liberal female democrat who is for abortion. It is a lot broader than that. Look it up and DO THE RESEARCH. Peace and vote!! We earned that right.

Kim- It’s Gov. Sarah Palin and if you were to look at her resume compared to Sen. Hillary Clinton well…Clinton did not accomplish nearly as much when she was Palin’s age. If you disagree with Gov. Palin’s politics that is one thing however she did not marry into politics. She did not have the contacts like Sen. Clinton. With all the media bias against Palin, she really has the grace and dignity. Gov. Palin has more experience than Obama. So when you try to discredit her you are actually discrediting him. It seerms that you really like Sen. Clinton who had 18 million votes then why did Obama decide not to pick her as VP? Has Sen. Clinton ever stated that she was even asked to be VP? Just curious. I’ve read books and books about Sen. Clinton and I have to say there’s been a great deal of negativety on her. Mostly due to her husband who once was a “Governor” who later became President. I think it is a safe bet that “Gov. Palin” is qualified to be VP since back in the 90’s “Gov. Clinton” ran for President and won. Much respect.

John (much respect and here is my response), I am a minority liberal feminist who votes for the best candidate for the job. I did over 40 hours of research and seriously gave alot of thought to this. I voted for Clinton (the first time NOT the second time), Nader (I really would like a 3rd party) and this time I am voting for McCain/Palin. It came down to common sense, research and my very strong gut instinct. Experience counts and Palin has more experience than Obama. Also my family was divided due to the wall in Deutschland. I saw a big difference between East Germany, West Germany and the States. I have friends from Cuba, Mexico and Russia who decided to move to the States and to become legal citizens. I have friends who are in the military and border patrol who I deeply respect. We need our country to be safe. Seriously that is priority number 1 for me. I fully understand that we are in a tough situation in regards to our economy. It sucks however I have faith in every citizen that we are Americans who can tough it out-that is why I like and admire Palin. Look at all the media bias for example towards her and she has handled it far better than Hillary could. Let me stress that Hillary has gotten her share of media bias when it was her and Obama. I would love for minorities to be represented because I am one however based on the research I’ve done on Obama. There is no way I can vote for him and surprisingly there are many other minorities who came to the same conclusion. Country is first for me because it is our foundation without that we have nothing. Much respect.

One last comment…. It’s one thing to not agree with Palin’s political party however here’s something to think about. Is she a working mother? Yes Was she once a Mayor? Yes Was she the Gov. of Alaska? Yes she is the active Gov. of Alaska Is she breaking the glass ceiling in general for women in politics? Yes Is her VP nomination history breaking? Yes Is she more popular than Hillary? It looks like that may be possible. I believe that there is a website that lists both Hillary’s and Sarah’s resume. Sarah has accomplished a lot for someone her age in politics. Hillary is perhaps roughly 12 to 16 years older than Sarah. One of the differences between the two is that Hillary got into politics by ways of her husband and Sarah did not. I respect Sarah for doing that. In my opinion is Sarah a stronger woman than Hillary…..I have to say yes. I think people especially women are threatened by her conservativeness and that she actually has it all-a long standing marraige, children, a career in politics, etc…(Even her attractiveness which I find to be odd and you never hear that about Hillary). Women may compare themselves to her and feel resentful, envious, jealous, catty and that is why women have a harder time to becoming succesful. It’s not men who are the biggest boundaries…it’s fellow women. Women who are near Hillary’s age (Steinem is older but still from the same mind frame) thinking back then and still present now is that you have to pick between family or career. It may make many upset or sadden that perhaps they were wrong. The younger feminists(men and women) may feel that the older feminists beliefs maybe a bit out dated and may really prefer not to be like that at all. This is just an observation. To be blunt I want women to have more opportunities and by the time I hit 60 I will be happy not resentful of the progress made. I have many friends who are libs, dems, reps, inds, straight, gay, men and women. Everyone has an opinion about Gov Sarah Palin. It’s mostly good actually. Some disagree with her politics though. However overall she is giving Hillary competition. She’s younger which means she may accomplish a lot more than Hillary. Hopefully more women will be represented and that both female and male voters will accept that. I like, admire and respect Gov. Sarah Palin however I have the right to disagree about her beliefs as well as other politicians. I guess it’s maturity, common sense or seeing the bigger picture. Thanks for reading and much respect.

Feminism is based on social, political and economical equality for women. Feminists can be anyone in the population, men, women, girl or boys. I did the research and have yet to found that you can only be a feminist if you are a liberal Democrat woman. DO THE RESEARCH. In regards to Troopergate, did you know that there is a photo of Alaska Senator Kim Elton, Alaska Senator Hollis French and Alaska Senator Bettye Davia in an Obama event. FYI- Palin’s ex-brother-in-law had Tasered his own 10-year-old stepson. An internal state trooper investigation found that Wooten had threatened that Palin’s father would “eat a f—-ing bullet.” Palin had raised concerns to Monegan about the fact that Wooten was still carrying a gun and working for the state. Check his record he should have been fired a long time ago because he was a risk to public safety. He also stated in the news that he behaved badly and made misteps in his choices. Monegan’s connection with Alaska state senator Hollis French is one of the reasons the McCain campaign contends the investigation is tainted. As noted above, Monegan held a press conference with the Democratic state senator after he objected to Sarah Palin’s budget. Hollis French is now managing the investigation into Monegan’s firing, and French has already made partisan remarks about it to the press, saying to the Washington Post: “It undercuts one of the points they are making that [Palin] is an ethical reformer.” Public Safety Commissioner Walter Monegan * 12/9/07: Monegan holds a press conference with Hollis French to push his own budget plan. * 1/29/08: Palin’s staffers have to rework their procedures to keep Monegan from bypassing normal channels for budget requests. * February 2008: Monegan publicly releases a letter he wrote to Palin supporting a project she vetoed. * June 26, 2008: Monegan bypassed the governor’s office entirely and contacted Alaska’s Congressional delegation to gain funding for a project. Palin was chosen because she’s pro-life, pro-gun, pro-drilling and pro-tax cuts. She’s fought both Republicans and Democrats on public corruption.
