The problem is that Rush has lost his self deprecating sense of humor.  It used to be, when he was at his most charming, that he made fun of himself and pointed out the foibles on both sides of the aisle.  By foibles I mean stupidity, cupidity and greed.

If he wants to save himself he needs to find that again, stop believing his own press.   If I were his therapist I would tell him to take a month off and go to a spa or boot camp for at least 3 of those weeks, put down the Havanas, the distilled adult beverages (his complexion says he drinks more of those than his liver can process) and the newspapers.  No news at all.  His weight says that he is dealing with back pain or prescription drugs which means get on the tread mill or elliptical for a couple of hours a day, and watch some really funny movies or TV.  Find the REAL Maha-rushie again.   And for the last week sit in the sun and think about who he is and where he is and what he wants to accomplish with his life.

Right now he is a kvetching fishwife, and no one likes a nag.   They wear everyone down eventually.   When he has detoxed from all the toxins causing him sooo much pain then come back and see what he wants to say.   But without that detox he will slide down into irrelevance, his anger is tedious. 

There was a time when I would have agreed with you BB, but not now.  As I said on another thread, Rush Limbaugh’s days are almost over, and like any flop he is starting to sense that truth and in an effort to stave it off he is saying stupid things to provoke attention.

He lost ALL of his objectivity when he was kissed up to by the Bushies, and didn’t notice that the tables turned and he was being used.  Particularly by Darth Cheney.   I still don’t think he has figured THAT out.

But he is despised by woman for many reasons, the first one I can think of is his grotesque pride in his conspicuous consumption.    At a time when so many people are struggling he is an embarrassment to American values.   The next thing is his inability to respect intelligent women who disagree with him.   His shallowness with regard to women is next, for a man in his 6th decade he has all the class of a 12 year old boy with his first Playboy.   Finally, his arrogance is a mask for a frightening degree of anger, it’s funny but when I heard that quote I thought to myself, "Poor Rush, I hope he has a good therapist."

But I am a former listener who dropped him when he started endlessly slobbering over the Bushies even though it was clear that they were wolves dressed in eagle feathers. 

What is truly going on here is that , while he won’t say so, his numbers are shrinking across the boards and he is looking for anything to gin them up.

He will never accept this but he blew it.  His day is past, there was a time when he was entertaining whether you agreed with his point of view or not.   I actually enjoyed him in the early ’90s.   But when he became, along with Fox News, the mouthpiece of the Bush administration he became just another fat cat.  (Sorry)  Smoking his illegal Havanas, discussing his Superbowl seats, bragging about the people he knew while not admitting that he was being used by a bunch of crooks in silk suits.

If he didn’t know he was being used, he is not as smart as he thinks he is, and if he did know he was being used and enjoyed the access, he is a fool.   Either way in this era of cutting back and making do, and conserving resources, his conspicuous consumption and grotesque braggadocio offends even the most right leaning American woman.

That is why he cannot "get" any smart American woman and must use his vast fortune to pay for access.  He offends our delicate sensibilities. 

At 50, I have met far more of my generation who come from a dysfunctional family than do not.   So I think we all have known injustice.   I am in therapy trying to forgive the 3 people who told me they loved me, and I should trust them because they were my family and proceeded spend their lives sqashing my dreams (nd therefore my soul) like a bug.

I came out of the womb fearless and passionately singing my song.  For myself.  Saw the sound of music at 3 and a half and knew that was my life.  My parents were frightened people who had been squashed by their parents, they resented my fearlessness and fought to "cut me down to size for as long as I can remember.  Neglect, verbal abuse and ridiculing me in front of friends and strangers were their tools.    I grew strong by fighting them.   Moved to new York to follow my dreams (despite my parents endless hammering that I would fail).  Met loved and married a man who swore he loved me for myself only to find out after deferring my dreams to help him with his, that he "was sure I would give up that nonsense" after I married him.   Stuck.   Stuck and growing fatter.   Lyme disease, stuck and growing fatter.   Dying, slowly dying.

Mother died.   Right before I was going to divorce him, husband died leaving kids and me more comfortable than we had ever been.   Father died.   The last harping negative voice is silenced.

Baby step, to the gym.   Baby step, piano lessons.   Baby step singing teacher.   Oceans of tears.   Hours of anger.   Forgiveness for a minute.   Then two.   And now sometimes I don’t even think of them or their carping ugly, fearful words.

And once again i can sing my song… almost fearlessly. 

Finally someone tells it like it REALLY is…and of course it is a woman!  Well done WOW!

I knew this was greed, corruption and dishonesty a year and a half ago but I misunderstood the degree.

The question that we really need to be asking ourselves is why are these people being given more money to play with instead of being put behind bars.   Eventually we are going to be broke, the government is going to be tapped out, and the only rich people will flee the country to redeem their swiss accounts and move to gated communities in New Zealand.

But if we politicize this moment we will all lose.   Like it or not this began w/ Clinton era deregulation and gathered up steam under Bush and "Darth Cheney".   Everyone in the political and business class is responsible on some level or another, because those who knew and stayed silent aided and abetted.  Take a look at Nancy Pelosi’s financial disclosure forms some time (yes I did, they are online), if you didn’t know her profession you would swear she was in the financial sector.

"We the people" are being taken to the cleaners, and like it or not that isn’t changing with the new administration.   And I will not believe that this administration is different than the past until subpoenas are issued, white collar people accused of stealing from their clients are put in jail, and taking money from lobbyists is criminalized

What a moving film it was.  Hard to watch but captivating.  I took my 17 year old daughter w/ me and she was just horrified by the reality that the film portrays.   It opened her eyes, which in this day and age is a good thing for American teenagers.

I was hoping they would be guaranteed an education as well Ms.Dee  that was my wish for them.   That is what changes lives 

I deal with a credit union where I am a person too.  They are doing just fine and my principle appears safe.   If the dark corners of the causes of this crisis are not illuminated nationalization will just cover up more criminal greed and ineptness.   That’s what worries me about nationalization the rest of the Madoffs and Stanfords will be protected by their buddies in government… once again on my dime.

Pretty soon I will run out of dimes. 

sorry Belinda if i misunderstood, you were the first one I saw tie ethnicity to illegal alien status, if I misunderstood your point I apologize.  For me it was never about race, it was about disrespecting our laws and where disrespecting one law because it doesn’t suit you leads us to.

I thought one of your posts was coming at me tying one point to the other when it wasn’t my intention. When I asked about his status it was because I though I had heard at the time about an illegal alien who had attacked girls in Rock Creek park.

Again if i misunderstood your meaning in an early post I apologize, because yes I did read the posts from beginning to end.  And I thought that you were the first to make ethnicity an issue when I was talking merely about immigration status.  To me they are two completely different points of reference.

I have seen no references to your taking the plunge and going to Washington lately.   May I ask how that is going?   I really admired your courage for considering it and have been rooting for you to have the resources to take the risk. 

Since i raised the legal/illegal issue first I am going to try to correct misimpressions, if i cannot do that it is not because I did not try.   At no time when I raised the issue of his immigration status did I bring up his ethnicity, because frankly his ethnicity is irrelevant to the discussion.   His immigration status on the other hand is quite relevant, because if he is an illegal and had been deported when first accused of wrong doing, Chandra Levy might be alive today.   I DID NOT know his immigration status, that was why I asked.

There are illegal aliens from every ethnic group on the planet in this country Belinda; Irish, Slavs, Muslims, Hispanic, Asian and African.  I have met some of them, it is not their ethnic group that is the problem, it is their disrespect of the rule of law.   Once you tell your first lie,lying becomes easier with each one told.

Once you break one law where does it stop?   And if you weren’t caught the first time why should you stop, until you do get caught.   You made assumptions based on my comments which, because of my experience were incorrect.   My concern is simply that citizens of America are spending billions of dollars supporting people who come here without respecting our laws and once a country starts down the slope of adapting itself to the whims of the lawless it is very difficult to stop.

It is like raising a child, most parents love their children to pieces, the hardest thing to do to a beloved child is say, "No you can"t do that." But if you don’t say that early and often, the beloved child does not learn proper boundaries and is in control of the situation not the parent, and soon becomes a manipulative monster.   The immigration issue is the very same thing, if your boundaries are meaningless, why should ANYONE respect them?   And if that is your choice where does that end?

Nor did I, but people who do not respect the laws of entry to our country, may not respect other laws either involving driver’s licenses, work permits and social security cards.   Heck if our law enforcement doesn’t respect them why should they?

Belinda this is not off topic, my question was, was this Salvadoran who apparently admitted/bragged about killing this young American lady. a legal or illegal alien, or whatever the current polite form for someone who came here illegally is.  And if he is illegally here, it suggests that if he had been deported when he was originally arrested for one of the first two ladies he hurt, Chandra Levy might be alive today.
