Arrest Imminent in 8-Year-Old Chandra Levy Case?
Was Guandique a legal, green card carrying immigrant? From everything I am reading from Business to Crime news, if we would simply enforce Immigration laws with the same enthusiasm we enforce drug laws we would solve a lot of problems in America.
Whether it’s infrastructure, education, health care, housing or crime if we would get a grip and enforce the laws we have on the books with regard to people staying in this country illegally we would save money and save lives as well. We are a nation of kind hearted people and it is destroying our country inches at a time.
Add up ALL of the expenses incurred by people who broke the law to get here and our DoD budget seems almost trivial by comparison. Get the illegal alien children and anchor babies out of our public schools and see how big the class sizes are. TAke all of the illegal residents WHO CAN NOT AFFORD to pay for their treatment out of our medical system and see where we stand. Remove all of the illegal litigants from our court systems and see how the backlog drops.
At some point we must face the fact that we have Immigration laws on the books for a reason.
Should NYTimes.com change their model and charge for their online content? Tell us why
On point as usual MD.
To address a couple of other issues, I LOVE my newspaper and coffee but it is not a sensual pleasure my children will know, because newspapers are not what they once were. (What in the World is?) Everything is profit driven… Everything. As the NYT will not write objective stories because their core readership is NYC liberal, they will not gain readership because that base is shrinking. I stopped buying the Times (much as I miss the A&L, Book Review, and Travel sections) because I don’t want opinion disguised as news. It seems that all the news outlets as they have become profit driven, (as opposed to function driven) and have lost their core principles. If they fulfill their function to the satisfaction of their clientele they should make a profit. But the Times, the Boston Globe, the Wash Post, have all driven away their readers by losing even a pretense of objectivity. I wonder why they assumed that ONLY liberal thinkers desire news. Darn it, I don’t want ANYONE’s "version" of the truth. I want what occurred, simple, observed and unvarnished. I am so TIRED of spin being presented as "fact" on all sides.
Jerry Lewis Feels Amore at Academy Awards (Video)
What did you think of the Academy Awards show?
Watched it for the first time in years liked it very much, although I agree about the graphics, occasionally hard to see. I liked Queen Latifah singing, "I’ll Be Seeing YOu", but they should have kept the focus on the pictures after showing her initially. Loved the Paul Neuman finish to that section. Touching.
Loved the musical numbers and am glad to see the possibility as Hugh Jackman said, "The musical is back." I miss them.
I also loved the past winners presentations to the current nominees, I thought it worked. But you know who the classy past winners are… the ones who played along and didn’t need to be billed to show up.
Nicholson, Pacino, Hoffman Paltrow and Close where were you?
Is Academy Award Secrecy Good For Designers - And Will Obama Appear?
Alas Diana, it was their choice to look scruffy.

Yeah I am pretty curious what a Boston Cream Pie martini would be made like, as well.
Am watching the Oscars tonight for the first time in AGES. Because I love Hugh Jackman, talk about the Host w/the Most(!) he made the Tonys fun,I look forward to seeing what he does to the Oscars. I know I am behind the curve but saw "Slumdog" last night and hope it takes at least Picture but should get director too. What a huge and multileveled undertaking Danny Boyle bit off! Plus kids!! Who speak a different language…it staggers my imagination! GO DANNY GO!

Liz Peek: Stock Market Gives Obama’s First Month An 'F'
Here is the point I believe she is making, he has not come up with innovative change to really make a difference in this situation. The "stimulus bill" despite his best efforts is a pork laden package of gifts to democratic special interests which many economists find seriously lacking in stimulation. It will do little to jumpstart a moribund economy. It protects a mouse in Pelosi’s world and puts our health records in the hands of the government, and to be honest "we the people" don’t know half the real junk in the bill, because we haven’t been told, and it’s a thousand page bill.
Hopefully his mortgage idea will help some people out of the jam that they are in, but real innovation would have been that fabulous idea to divide the banking bill by the number of citizens in the country and send us each a check for that amount. I read numbers from $100,000 to $300,000. That would have been some stimulation.
All we have seen is giving money to people who have run their companies into the ground, which mom used to call throwing good money after bad, and throwing money at problems that require real discussion to solve.

I hope that Chris Brown is ostracized by the musical (hip hop?) community. My son has loved to emulate the style and listen to the music and I have tried to discourage him because so many of the men who perform this stuff are documented as disrespectful of women, and the law. Now here is another example of brutal behavior and lack of self control, there should be no second chances at this time. She will, I hope, understand that she deserves far better treatment from a gentleman friend.
The industry, I hope, will understand that it reflects negatively on their product and by employing this young man sends a subtle message that this behavior is acceptable to young men who are only now forming their character. And Chris Brown should go to jail because that is the ONLY way that he will truly learn that his actions have gone "beyond the pale". Talk is cheap and only genuine consequences will teach him, and show other young men who are tempted to such arrogance, that you cannot treat a person like your personal punching bag and get away with it.
