If ‘legislative’ experience were the only measure of fitness then all the inept bureaucrats that have transformed Congress into a moribound institution would be the control point. Thomas Paine was one of the most brilliant leaders this country ever have, he arrived here a failure. And his first writings clairified for early settlers galvinized them into actions, Payne became the best selling author of the 18th C and his “Common Sense” and “Rights of Man” will always stand among the greatest writings. The control for greatness in a President and fitness for Congress should be high intelligence, respect for the Constitution, vision, and ability to conceptualize on a large scale, and to possess the drive and personal clout to make complex things happen. Caroline Kennedy has and has done all of these again and again and within and for some of the key institutions in WDC, NYC and MA.

JM- “There are others more qualified based upon experience and leadership skills.” That depends on your opinion and what you rate as experience and leadership skills and in Congress selections have come from a wide and diverse field. Sonny Bono and then his widow? Caroline Kennedy has plenty enough experience and leadership and brains and decency. She is more than qualified for Congress and hopefully she’ll be offered and accept an appointment and then the people of NY can decide if they care to elect her should she decide to run to keep the seat. ‘Nuf said.

Belinda, I hope that you are improving after your health scare. One trauma like that on top of the US situation at the moment is enough to stress anyone. I used to live in Carmel and love it and after my brother’s death San Francisco is just too much. So found a turn-key tiny but very charming cottage to rent….and now that down here for a month have decided to move back…I love San Francisco but that’s all too much for me at the moment. And with it being off season things are relatively inexpensive. So hopefully you can find an ocean/lake spot to run to….very good idea I think. My son has long lived in France and was transferrred about a year ago to Amsterdam. He’s loved the experience but also can’t stand the crowds. He’s been taking week long trips to Spa,Beligium and Lac d’Annecy, France and is now looking for a lake location to move to. From my brother’s recent death think it is so important to live ones dreams and get rid of everything that is superfluous or or an irritant.

Witty post, Zera Lee! “What is Republican for intellectualism?” I think that would be Oxymoron.

I think it is sad that Barbara Walters who is a lovely person and was a trail-blazer sinks so low in most of these choices that reflect what is devolving America, Rush? Give me a break. How about some of the innovators who are coming up with real environmental, scientific, medical or social breakthroughs. If a light were shinned on them that would propel the innovators, make us all feel better about human achievement and possibilies for the future. I would not watch this show….a nearly total waste of time.

It’s great she’s chosen to publically identify herself by inappropriately defying tradition—-now she can go to ‘head the class’ on the Fire Immediately! list. Am sure Obama’s Chief of Staff has this gal earmarked already.

Caroline Kennedy is too brainy to let other people’s opinions impact her choices. As her mother said of her own occasionaly bad press “That river of sludge will go on and on and runs like a cartoon caption beneath my real life.” There is no shortage of idiots on the margins of American life…noone with any wits allows that to deter them.

Andromeda—-Just FYI. WoW doesn’t review posts before they post, and they only remove those that are truly outrageous, they are not into over editing. So editing would not apply to any of yours. Although if they edit out a comment and yours appeared in a string of replies to it…those can get edited out too in the string. The site has become very much slowed down. It is really annoying and they are going to lose people for that reason. What probably happened is that your earlier comment ‘timed out’. And when they appear to post out of order it is because people post as a ‘comment’ [which goes to the end so that others posting simultaneously might post first] instead of a ‘reply’….so if intending to reply good idea to address it to that person. And sometimes comments post twice if people inadvertently hit the submit button more than once…which we all do. Hope that helps.
