Dating 101: Mind Your Manners and Ditch the BlackBerry

Over a three-year period, I dated hundreds of men, who I met online, and I’m happy to say that a very small percent took or made cell phone calls while on a date (though those who did never got to go out with me on a second date). I recall one of them who said, "I may have to take a phone call because….," and I thought it was a good reason, so that was acceptable to me. And if the truth be told, it was a cell phone call that made me fall in love with Mr. Right. We had planned on meeting at a restaurant for dinner for our first date (something that I didn’t typically do. When I arrived at the restaurant - on time - I was greeted at the door with, "Are you here to meet Peter?" When I said, yes, she told me, "He just called. He’s on his way, but he’s stuck in traffic, and he’s going to be 10 minutes late." What a wonderful impression that made on me. People always seem to be 10 minutes late - or more, and they never think to call. Peter and I fell in love on that first date, and we’re living happily ever after. It was his cell phone that made the first impression.

Introducing the 'Just the Right Book' Program

For all of us self-published authors ( I am the author of “The Intelligent Woman’s Guide To Online Dating,” which is a great holiday gift for everyone’s single friends), independent bookstores are absolutely essential, and especially in this economy, I feel it is so important to support the independent bookstore owner.

What is your favorite form of exercise?

I don’t mean to brag, but at age 65, my body looks better than it looked when I was in my 40s. It looks better than it looked AFTER I had liposuction. And I have Pilates to thank for my fabulous body! I didn’t start Pilates until I was in my 50s. Within 3 months, I could see the difference. Now, from my personal experience, it’s not just Pilates. It’s finding an instructor who follows the Joseph Pilates “school” of Pilates (vs. Stott, for example). I also recommend combining it with yoga (my yoga teacher is in her late 80s). Then, you’ll not only have a fabulous body, but you’ll have a flexible body, too! I am more flexible than I was when I was 16 years old. I’m not kidding!

I would add a number 6 to that list - Find a man who really knows how to get you wet. I always had problems with dryness when I was married.
