Paul Podlucky: Get Scientific With Your Hair

Good advice.

I work with the makers of Sofn’free hair care, and the head of education, Will Williams, agrees that working with a trusted stylist is key.

Styles and length depend on texture characteristics, and after these considerations have been met, there’s the style selection.  Take into consideration your face and body type, lifestyle, work style, and your tolerance for maintenance.  Then even go so far as to list the pros and cons of a haircut on paper.  If you decide to go shorter, ask your stylist if you should consider color enhancement and makeup changes.  When it’s haircut day, don’t worry about the hair on the floor; it’s what’s on your head and how it’s cut that count.

Can Fashion Icon Michelle Obama Wear the Same Thing Twice?

For many reasons Mrs. Obama should wear outfits more than once.  First, one-time outfits are and would appear frivolous to Americans. Second, it’s good for her image to demonstrate that she’s personally fiscally responsible.  Third, her clothes are beautiful.

Julia Reed: Carolina Herrera and Victoria Beckham Steal First Post-Crash Fashion Week

Oh, to have a wardrobe of Carolina Herrera clothing in my closet would be a dream! I’ll stick with my crisp white shirt, tailored black pants, Sassybax shapewear, and red lipstick for now — and will save all my nickels for one of those amazing pieces you described. Thanks, Julia, for the easy read and the inspiring review.

Susan Sarandon, Glenn Close and Other 40+ Women Who Shined at the Globes

40-something here and feeling fine about my age. The 20s and 30s of Hollywood are beautiful, grown-up girls. However, it’s those in our 40s who seem to know who we are and where we fit in life. We wear jeans to Donna Karan on the outside and Sassybax underneath … both with confidence and no apologies. Here, here, to the press for growing up with us and giving kudos to the “aging beauties” of our time.

wOw Presents: The 15 Over-40 Female Fashion Leaders of 2008 (Photos)

Lots of women over 40 seem to have learned what looks right on their bodies. Take, for instance, the woman who created Sassybax shapewear. In her 40s she created a bra that finally addressed the other side of our bodies: the back. She put aside the strappy demi-cup bras for one that got it right all over and made clothes on the outside look more polished. I put her up there with the other on-target designers that showed us that mature dressing doesn’t mean matronly, it’s just polished and smart.

Carol Burnett, Julie Andrews and 8 Other Unforgettable Variety Acts! (Video)

Carol Burnett’s character, the flakey secretary Mrs. Wiggins, was one of my favorites. And the skit mocking the Easy Off commercial where she, reclined and dressed in an evening gown, says, “I’m cleaning my oven.” The camera pans down to her feet, and you see brushes strapped to them as she kicks her feet up and down and literally cleans her oven. What a hoot!!

What is your best beauty tip?

A great beauty tip for us gals over 40: Smile in the front and slap a Sassybax bra across your back to keep you covered from both sides. (Take that, you frown lines and bra bulge!)
