If you had to choose a theme song for your life, which would it be?

So many parts of life and so much music to choose from…. Probably Sunrise, Sunset from Fiddler on the Roof. Life happens so fast parts of seem over in a flash. Where does the time go?

Yes! (Or, Oh No): <i>Time</i>'s The State of the American Woman

Life has always been pay now or pay later when it comes to raising children. People forget that women have been working low paying dead end jobs for several generations to help support their families because they had no choice. I hear very few objections from men when women are working low paying dead end jobs. Why is there a difference if a women is educated and using her talents to earn a decent salary? Are some men afraid that she will recognize that she has more options than to have to put up with an abusive or controlling spouse? Men need to recognize that childcare is not relegated to women it is a family responsibility.

Yes! (Or, Oh No): <i>Time</i>'s The State of the American Woman

You brought up a very valid point that most people refuse to recognize home support is necessary for a successful career path. Women still have to choose between children and careers without adequate help.

Women have come a long way, as evidenced by the Shriver Report. What will be the impact of these new facts on our daughters?

Women may have come a long way in some career choices but there are still barriers to break. That won’t happen until there is adequate quality childcare and support at home. Working women juggle full schedules on the job then come home to do the majority of house work, cooking and childcare. That homecare often dictates her acceptance of a better position at work if it leaves less time to nurture her children.

On '60 Minutes': A New Weapon in the Fight Against Cancer?

I decided the same thing when my mother died of lung cancer. There was no quality of life with chemo and radiation just fatigue and pain. If diagnosed I will go out experience as much as I can before my final exit.

On '60 Minutes': A New Weapon in the Fight Against Cancer?

I read about this in our local paper several months ago. I hope that it works.

Fools Rush In, by E.D. Hill

Until doctors, hospitals and insurance companies stop being for profit institutions there will be no reform. My husband used to see a local gastroenterologist that scheduled three patients every fifteen minutes. The actual time spent with the patient was less than two minutes unless there was a condition that couldn’t be ignored. He was irate when we switched physicians because my husband’s symptoms were being ignored. This doctor not only misdiagnosed my husband but also ignored neuromuscular symptoms that could have led to his being diagnosed with Myasthenia Gravis several years before we knew to see a neurologist.

All of the new doctors that we see today demand the co-pay before allowing patients to see the physician. One recent ENT visit that I had recently charged me $220 for the initial consult. For treatment I was expected to reschedule at another time for another fee. I decided to live with my sinus infection.

Every year we watch our insurance rates rise with less care being covered. I fully understand that the reason most people are forced into bankruptcy is because of the cost of medical care. I have opted out of getting treatment for some irritating conditions because we have cap on what our insurance will pay for a lifetime and I don’t want to deny my husband coverage for his illness.

We don’t need a federal program for more red tape we need real reform in health care and insurance. Sick people are dropped from insurance companies daily or have their claims denied. A huge number of physicians refuse to see a patient without insurance unless the bill is prepaid before the visit. Hospitals are dumping indigent patients on skid row or at shelter. Some patients are getting same day surgery before being sent home where there is no help. This isn’t medical treatment it is a joke.

Is multitasking something to move toward or away from?

At home or the office multitasking is acceptable and often necessary. Who among us had not had the washer, dryer and dishwasher going at once while mopping or vacuuming? Not on the road or when spending time with family or friends. I resent going to visit someone who makes or takes call after call on a cell as though my time were of no importance. Not in a vehicle when your eyes and mind should be on the traffic.

The Ladies Professional Golf Association is looking for a new Chief Executive Officer. Is it important that the CEO be a woman?

The CEO should be the best qualified person. That said there are many talented women that might easily handle this position. Their experience should be given equal weight to that of a man.

Emotions aren’t limited to people. Animals of all kind show their happiness in various ways.

Chrissie Evert, We Hardly Knew Ye! by Michele Willens

I think that the above column was catty. Chris Evert was raised in a public forum so everything she did was under scrutiny. How many of us could have stood a life under a magnifying glass? I think being a public figure puts a tremendous pressure on marriages because there are very few private moments.

To ensure that there are no safe havens for terrorists, would you support keeping troops in Afghanistan for the next five years?

What ever happened to "There’s nothing to fear but fear itself?" We make a conscious choice to see good or evil. People and countries draw to them exactly what they expect to find. Let’s not forget that the majority of the citizens of any country simply want to be able to raise their families without war or fear.

They get cocktails and peanuts….I get the hulls.

Now that we've lost Pulitzer Prize-winning 'oracle of language' William Safire, to whom should we turn for linguistic wisdom?

William Safire will be a hard act for any journalist to follow. His command of the English language was magnificent. He could dress down people in a way that almost made them want to say thank-you. I didn’t agree with everything that he wrote but I respected his opinion.

Are you participating in any breast-cancer awareness events this month?

My mother had breast cancer. Supporting this cause has always been important to me.
