Are there certain topics about which you think men and women will always disagree? What are they? Why won't we ever agree?

You have to live with an engineer to know how their minds work. My husband couldn’t conceive that I was capable of just hauling off and doing things without weeks of prep. I taught him the art of spontaneity over the years. Like you we are a team because we encourage the best in each other.

Why Good Girls Finish Last, by Jacquelyn Mitchard

I learned from an early age to pay attention to my intuition rather than what I was told to do. It did get me in trouble at times because my father wanted strict obedience. Children should be taught to speak up in any situation that makes them feel uncomfortable. Parents should listen to what their children have to say. Being good or obedient can be a safety hazard.

My husband was taught to see the glass half empty. I was taught to see it half full. We have had some interesting conversations at our house. As an engineer he is taught to see the faults in something as well as how to reinvent or fix it. I believe that if it isn’t broke that we should leave it alone. I am a saver he is a spender but he has learned to compromise. That is what relationships are all about learning from each other and laughing about the things you can’t change.

Joan Hornig: Doing Good Deeds With Jewelry

Jewelry is for everyone not just the rich. I am a member of several gem and mineral clubs. Our members make, give away and sell some beautiful pieces. If you like jewelry, minerals or fossils you would be welcomed into any lapidary organization. I do some cutting and silversmithing but I am focusing on educational displays at this time. Try going to a local (club sponsored) show to see what they do. This is a wonderful hobby for families as the kids always have a place to go and something to do. They grow up with healthy attitudes and less peer pressure.

The Accidental Entrepreneur

I just hired a young man starting a lawn care service because he couldn’t find a job. He took much better care of my yard than the person we were using before - in part because he wants the work. We weren’t fitted into his schedule he gave me a card and told me to put down when I wanted my yard serviced the next time. I hope others will fund entrepreneurs by patronizing fledgling businesses to help them get off the ground.

Do you remember your dreams when you awake?

I wasn’t that person but I have been to the ARE headquarters in VA Beach while at a convention for something else. It is still active and they have some wonderful conferences. They also offer classes online that I have not taken. I have bought books from the bookstore as well as the catalogue. If I had more time and fewer responsibilities I might get more involved. Two close friends just came back from an ARE sponsored trip to Peru and plan to go on future trips because the one they were on was so well organized.

Judith Martin and Murderous Landscapes

If we judge others we need to realize that others will be judging us. They may take exception to something that we do or say leaving us unfit to live in their opinion.

Sheila Nevins on Metaphors and Murder

Society is becoming unhinged is we start thinking that offing people even metaphorically is a good idea. I disagree with any kind of wholesale censorship but authors and film makers need to realize there are individuals who think what they produce is reality and could be copied. Damaged minds can do a lot of harm.

Putting aside matters of law, criminality and ethics, what three people would you nominate to be offed?

If everyone were allowed three murders would any of us be left standing? I disagree with even suggesting the idea. I lived in Germany in the 50’s and remember hearing stories of people sold out to the secret police. The whole idea makes me ill.

'Retirement Revolution: The New Reality' Airs Tonight, Seeks to Help Baby Boomers Navigate Through Tough Choices

Affording healthcare as I age. I try to live a healthy lifestyle so that may never be an issue. I have a husband with myasthenia gravis, diabetes and other health challenges. Without insurance we couldn’t afford the medical treatment he gets to stay functional.

Do you remember your dreams when you awake?

Keep a dream journal and write down your dreams as soon as you wake. You can suggest aloud before going to sleep that you will remember your dreams clearly. The ARE Bookstore carries books on dreams. That url is: http://arebookstore.com

Click on the dream section. You may have to cut and paste the url to your browser.

Ruth Charny: Where Have All the Good Times Gone?

It is never too late to fulfill a dream or desire if we are willing to work to make it happen.

How to Carpe Diem in This Buyer's Market

Before you buy a home get it thoroughly inspected. Get an inspector from out of town without ties to local realty companies. Get your own pest inspection done. Do not take the present homeowners assurances that they will fix what is wrong. Get in writing that the work will be done by a licensed bonded contractor. The purchase will be null if the work does not pass inspection. Try to get a homeowners warranty that will cover major problems for a year. A good one will cover heating and air plus appliances.

Sailing - take me away…

How many hours each day do you spend online?

It depends on what I have going on. If I am busy I may not turn my computer on except to check my e-mail briefly. Computers enhance my life but they are not the sum total of it. I have an active life and a circle of friends that I enjoy. Over the years I have lost friends who find their virtual online life more important than the one they live in person.
