Do you think ground combat positions in the armed forces should be open to women?

I grew up in a military family. I knew with certainty that there was always a risk my father might not come home from an assignment. Today that means either parent involved in combat might not be there. It is a part of serving our nation when a person enlists in service. These soldiers should not be used as cannon fodder for the economic gain of corporations. In the Mid-East conflicts especially at the start our troops were never given adequate protection such as flack vests or reinforced vehicles. That didn’t happen until there was a public outcry.

Maybe the better question is why are we wasting our troops at all if this is a war for overseas resources? If we are truly an educated society why aren’t we sitting down at the negotiating table first? I agree with Dona to a large extent but will go one step further and say that those who want war and vote for it should be prepared to sacrifice themselves and their families first. Most wars today are economic and if you look at who is benefiting it is usually those in charge or those who will manage the resources from the conflict. A good many of them are the people in the ammunition or construction industries who have paid lobbyists in Congress.

Which season is your favorite?

After the summer heat in the South I am ready for fall. We have warm days with cool evenings and an occasional frost before winter sets in. I look forward to the new apple season and collecting pecans for baking.

Don Hewitt, My Boss at '60 Minutes,' by Lesley Stahl

I love 60 Minutes because it is informative and the segments often bring out facts that the brief news shows didn’t have time to cover. I like that every reporter has a different perspective that isn’t censored. Don Hewitt’s standards were high and it came across on each program.

What to Do When You Get Fired, by Paula Forman

We have lived in small towns throughout the Southeast because of my husband’s career. In every place we lived we made lifelong friendships. These are places where neighbors greet each other by name and bring cuttings from their gardens to enhance your yard. Clerks at the grocery store and bank call you by name. No we didn’t have a mall but we had mom and pop stores with play areas for our kids. We were genuinely sorry to leave each time we were moved to a new location.

If you have the ability relocate where there is employment potential. A lot of the companies seeking to hire are not in popular cities or tourist destinations but they offer steady employment. The upside is that housing costs are usually lower too.

Go to the moon they said…No crowds….No food or shelter either…What was I thinking?

Are you a saver or a spender?

I have always been able to save because I look at the big picture. We decide what is important in life and put our money where it counts. Our boys graduated from college with no debt. They had scholarships, worked summers and part-time in school. We paid the rest. We pay cash for our cars because we save upfront for them rather than having a payment and interest. We also realize that we are lucky to be able to do this because we both worked so we could get ahead and stay ahead. Some people do not have that option.

Coming Soon: The Death of the American Lawn

Our yard is mostly centipede grass rather than the fragile grasses that require extreme maintenance. One of the reasons we planted it is because it does not require fertilizer and is hardy in our area. I have always been a fan of using native plants and grasses rather than imports.

Remembering Coco Chanel (Photos)

Coco Chanel’s statement that "Simplicity is the keynote of all elegance" is true. Her styles enhanced women for decades. Women could wear her clothes with comfort.

What is the one question you would ask Whoopi Goldberg if you had the opportunity to sit down with her?

You are a role model for many people today. Did you have a role model growing up? Is that person still able to influence you?

Report: John Edwards to Admit He's Father of Ex-Mistress Rielle Hunter's Baby

I am not and never have been the other woman. I have however been through a similar situation and chose to be better than the circumstances. I chose for forgive and move on rather than wallow in the muck left behind. Forgiving and forging ahead are the most important aspects of healing. Today I can look at this other person and see how she has grown and blossomed. I wish her well. I believe that what we put out in life be it attitude, time effort or money tend to come back to us when we least expect it. If I meet my make unexpectedly I don’t want it to be at a time when I am wearing a hair shirt of hate.

Report: John Edwards to Admit He's Father of Ex-Mistress Rielle Hunter's Baby

To see a person smeared over and over without a shred of compassion is mind boggling. It is no wonder that there is no peace on earth. I am not disagreeing that Elizabeth Edwards was a victim of her husband’s affair or that she was hurt, that is a given. However, it is time to move past what has happened. The affair is over and Rielle should be left to live her life without a scarlet letter plastered across it in neon. If every individual in the US were crucified for their mistakes over and over we would have a government far worse than those of Mid-Eastern countries. I get the feeling you will not be satisfied unless this woman is burned at the stake. That is sad.

Report: John Edwards to Admit He's Father of Ex-Mistress Rielle Hunter's Baby

Elizabeth Edwards has my deepest sympathy because she is married to a hypocrite. Her husband denied having an affair until it was out in the open. Then he denied having fathered a child using an aide for a cover story. He was in no way entrapped into an affair. He was more intent on blame than shouldering responsibility for his own actions.

As I said earlier in response to LC Rielle Hunter never sought publicity from this affair not did she cash in when she could have raked in millions from tabloids and talk shows. That is certainly a mark of discretion and maturity. She is raising a child alone with all the dignity she can muster under the given situation. She is paying dearly for any mistakes that she made earlier in her life and will be for years to come.

Whatever happened to he who has never sinned cast the first stone? History is full of women that were used and abused by powerful men I truly do feel for Elizabeth Edwards because she was a pawn in John’s bid for the presidency. If he honestly cared for his wife he would have kept her out of the spotlight and been there to help her heal.

I also contend that Rielle Hunter had to have some encouragement to go along with John Edwards because affairs do not happen in a vacuum. To Rielle’s credit she has never once flaunted the affair or her child for publicity. She has been discreet even when offered millions for disclosure. That is not the mark of a calculating woman.
