so very eloquent, Liz Smith. But, sadly, the race is over and has been for some time….she is not doing herself any favors….there is a difference in fighting for survival,fighting for change, and fighting for ego….from a Hillary fan….

Michelle Obama makes campaign speeches and of course she is liable for the consequences. But,Liz Smith, her comments are absolutely pertinent, unlike Mrs Reagan’s wardrobe. It is clear that Mr Obama’s skin is not only black, but very very thin. Michelle Obama should face the consequences of her actions,,,,Cindy McCain’s money is pertinent because it affects the campaign and federal campaign finance laws. ie, providing jet transportation, etc.

after some thought , it seems that this was just an excuse to gain attention for one’s own sake. it has nothing at all to do with Ann Richards.

you may have worked for her, but I cannot imagine Ann Richards would care one way or the other about J. Bush or her wedding. Gov Richards would never make derogatory comments about a family member, particularly a young girl on her wedding day. Certainly not when there are many more important public issues to discuss.

i always enjoy your columns,,,your writing is terrific: the description of Mariah Carey is wonderful. it is so refreshing to read bright and witty and NOT MEAN commentary. thank you for frequently mentioning Ann Richards. really miss her and Molly Ivins this election season. I would give anything to hear Ann Richards discuss the current Hillary situation, and her views on John McCain. rip Govenor, we miss you……

i wish wowowow would make some effort to edit these postings…i don’t read wowowow for these egotistical regurgitations by self aggradizing blowhards. blow hards. anyway. Hillary Clinton is a terrific candidate and very qualified to be President, but it’s over. she is hurting herself to stay in,giving people excuses to criticize the Clintons. She was much better than her campaign and it makes me so sad, but I hope she will withdraw soon and i hope Obama will offer the VP slot and she should take it.

yes, Liz Smith, right again. i really do not want a chip on my shoulder and avoid defensiveness, but it is very clear, at least to me, that most ‘pundits’ dislike HC…too strong a woman??? probably . it is shameful, in the year 2008 that this behaviour is tolerated/even encouraged. I personally only admire Bob Schieffer among the current crop. And Candy Crowley,, but she is a woman and a real reporter, not just some attention-seeking egotist self-important blow hard jerk. Bill O’Reilly. and on and on and on. god, i miss journalists…..I really thought Wolf was going to faint over his exposure to Pope. what ever happened to r e p o r t i n g???????

i find Michelle Obama perhaps the least likeable public figure in recent memory. She has an emourmous chip on her shoulder for no good reason, and is a racist. She does not a grateful bone in her body. other than that…..

thank, you so much for this memory. i miss Ann Richards and have thought of her often during this political season, wishing I could turn on Larry King and listen to her funny and very wise comments. i remember seeing her in the lobby of the San Jacinto Bldg and she was so beautiful and bright, she really sparkled. But that sparkle came from within. Texas is darker without Ann Richards or Molly Ivins or Mr Stanley, but with good and smart friends like Liz Smith, the memories will remain.

“the finest example yet of this iconic show ever to grace any stage anywhere”…but, Ms Smith, did you see Ethel in the show? and if so, do you REALLY mean this comment? I am sure Patti LuPone is great, brilliant, but not Ethel.

My mother took me to see ” Call Me Madam” when I was seven years old. I loved every minute and became a life-long Ethel Merman fan. But, South Pacific is my favorite musical, esquisite music and the story sill resonates today. Reba McIntire was brilliant as Nellie Forbish, but sometimes, when I am sad, I listen to Mary Martin. No one ever sang with such warmth.
