The Happy Birthday, Whoopi! Reader Forum

Just a little wish from me to you. Wishing you all the best on your birthday and always. We all admire you so much. God bless you and Happy Birthday dearheart.

What do you think of healthcare coverage in the United States?

I have no medical insurance. I don’t qualify for any kind of assistance. I’m up a creek! I’ve contacted insurance companies but they will not cover my RA, they want to put a 2 year ryder on any policy and the deductible is over $5000. It didn’t matter whom I contacted, they were all about the same. We HAVE TO DO SOMETHING AND DO IT NOW. There are way to many people losing their insurance coverage. My son was recently diagnoised with type 1 Diabetes and he can’t get coverage either. He’s working hard to find a way to get his insulin. I have to remain in pain and watch my body fall apart basically. It’s just not fair.

Do you use antibacterial hand soap?

No I don’t use anything that is antibacterial. I do keep some of that waterless stuff in my purse but I don’t use it very often. My theory is that our bodies need a bit of bacteria in order to build up some resistance to the negative stuff. It’s working for me anyway! Haven’t had the flu or even a cold in many years. I don’t get flu shots either.

Cloris Leachman, 82, to Strut Her Stuff on 'Dancing With the Stars'

She’s a classy lady. Let’s hope this isn’t to much for her. She has my bid! Bravo!!

'What if?'--Would Hillary Be the Nominee if Edwards Hadn't Lied About His Affair?

This is really a dumb question. What does one thing have to do with the other? What John Edwards did or didn’t do has nothing to do with Hillary Clinton. There were scandals left and right. So he had an affair, it’s pretty common lately. Sad too! Personally, I wish she would have stayed until the bitter end. I wanted her in office to “clean house” so-to-speak. We need a woman in office. I was just hoping it would be her. Maybe the next election. I have high hopes.

If John Edwards' affair had been made public one year ago, do you think Hillary would have won the Democratic nomination?

John Edwards and his affair had nothing to do with Hillary. Dumb question in my opinion. I’m very sorry she lost. I know I voted for her. I think we needed her in to “clean house”. Obama is young and has a way about him. That’s what will get him into office. He will mess things up just like the rest of them I’m sure.

If you had one million dollars to donate to charity, what cause would you support?

I have three places that I would end money to. First would be MDA. Second would be for hunger and the third would be to support some sort of program for people without health insurance. Heck, somebody has to get the ball rolling on the health insurance.

If you were writing your obituary, what would you title it?

(continued to say) “No more crying and no more pain”

If you were writing your obituary, what would you title it?

She’s finally home to live with her beloved Lord and Saviour”

Fashion police: Are there things you think should never be worn to the office? If so, what exactly?

Anything beach related like flip flops. Tank tops or tees that say things or are to tight or to short. Piercings other than one or two in the ears. Skirts and pants that are to tight, to short or to low riding. Anything to baggy. To much makeup. To much jewelry. Pajamas or bedroom slippers. Shorts or ripped jeans sweatshirts or yoga pants Capri pants

Do you go to the doctor when you are ill?

I live in a town with 5000 people. There are no programs here. I also can’t get medicaid because we “make to much”. You can own property and still get medicaid. It goes by how much you make. You have to fit their guidlines. There are many people in my situation. Probably around 50 million people. We’ve contacted the social services in our county and there is no help available. It really sucks. This is a country where we are suppose to have such great health care but many of us don’t get to experience it because of no insurance. We don’t live beyond our means and we have no credit cards so whatever we make goes for the necessary things but still we “make to much” according to their guidlines. This country needs to come up with a better plan and quickly before more useless deaths happen. Useless in that people have no other choice but to go untreated.

How many hours of sleep do you need each night?

I have RA and with this disease, you need alot of sleep. Unfortunately, I’m lucky if I get 3 hours a night. I would like to sleep eight or more hours.

Do you go to the doctor when you are ill?

Some people have no choice. When you have no insurance what are you to do? You go to the ER (only when necessary) to get treatment for a problem. They will wait for the money or put you on a payment plan. I had to go the other day. It wasn’t a true emergency but I had to do something for the pain I had in my neck from my RA. They did very little to help me but at least I got a pain med to help.

Do you go to the doctor when you are ill?

I don’t like doctors. I seem to have found all the jerky ones around. I’m tired of dealing with them. It’s so sad that as women, we have to get such lously treatment. I have loads of stories that can prove this. Someday I should write a book about my experiences and that of others. I go as natural as I can. I eat well, take some herbals and vitamins and minerals. Keeps me pretty healthy. They never seem to listen to my problems anyway or they just dismiss me as being rude. I live in my body and I know when something isn’t right-why not just listen and find out what the problem is. If, after examining me, you find nothing and have ruled out every possible problem-they dismiss me. Don’t tell me I’m rude. I can’t go anyway. I have no medical insurance and I don’t qualify for any assistance. It really sucks. Doctors want paid up-front and I just don’t have that kind of money. I have Rheumatoid arthritis and can’t get any help so I just have to watch my body fall apart and deal with the constant pain.
