So, I can’t relate to Fantasia, because my mom, who grew up in the projects, illiterate, raising herself and her siblings because she was the child of a single mom, is NOTHING like Fantasia? Puh-leeze. What if I told you that she and my immigrant, non-english speaking, poor as dirt, fleeing racial persecution in his home country father inherited a large sum of money from a distant relative they weren’t aware of, and had to learn how to manage it, raise a family, and turn it into something that would sustain them long-term, with no education? I think it sounds almost exactly like Fantasia’s story. I watched Idol. I saw the TV movie. Not bitter, not jealous. Disgusted. I think all the examples you made of how she made a ton of money, and then, apparently, blew it, show that she doesn’t deserve sympathy. I don’t have any sympathy for Ed McMahon either, who blew his money and got foreclosed on.

That, or he just grew up in the shadow of corrupt politics. I mean, before he had his falling out with his father-in-law, he was well-connected into the Chicago political machine. I personally think the ego is part of small man’s disease - he’s not that big a guy. :-)

Good for them. Unfortunately, I heard this morning on the news that Blago’s lawyer says he has no intention of resigning and - lawyer’s quote, “doesn’t think he did anything wrong.” I’m starting to think impeachment is too good for him. He should be tarred and feathered. What do we have here in Illinois, a quota system? If Ryan gets his sentence commuted, we need to fill our quota of having a governor in prison at all times, so it’s time for the next one to step up!

Yes, well, as the child of a political refugee immigrant and a woman with a similar background to Fantasias - only in the 1940’s - I don’t hold much compassion for someone who wins $1 million and then buys a $1.4 million home. She did know how to add!

I wrote my state senator and congressman to push for impeachment yesterday. I hear our state legislature is holding a special session next week just for this. I worry about what the election will cost - I guess they could roll it into the regular February election, but that means no second senator for us until afterwards.

He didn’t drink it - he married it. Blago’s father-in-law is a Chicago City Alderman, and not a “clean” one at that. They had a little feud over a landfill that Blago closed that belonged to a cousin of his in-laws a few years back, and his father-in-law has had it out for him ever since. I wouldn’t be surprised if he wasn’t in on the sting. The ironic thing about our governor here in Illinois is that he feuds with fellow democrats in state office and legislature more than anyone else. They hate his guts, and vice versa. Maybe they all knew what we didn’t.

Durbin just called for a special election in Illinois to fill Obama’s seat, in the wake of all this.

They just released Blagojevich on $4,500 bail. $4,500! Should have been $4.5 million. At least they made him surrender his passport.

I heard that too - I heard he called Obama a mother***er to Rahm for supporting someone who wouldn’t pay for the seat - so Rahm called Fitzgerald. Good! Just adds credibility to Obama’s appointing Rahm to Chief of Staff.

He actually has said he has balls that big: “This is the kind of thing that I think frankly separates the men from the boys in leadership. Do you have the testicular virility to make a decision like that knowing what’s coming your way? I say I do.” He said that about closing down a landfill run by an in-law.

Sorry, but I don’t feel sorry for anyone who got a $1 million prize, a record contract, a show on Broadway, and blew it all. No one taught me money management either, but I still managed to keep my home, even through six months of unemployment.
