The Love Goddess: In Sickness and in Health ... But Hold the Sickness

Oh Belinda, love your posts today! You are so right - the Edwards thing shows us the ugly (yellow?) underbelly of the man’s character. Guys like him need everything in order and everyone adoring him and providing him with their undivided attention.

The basic problem with the men who can’t cope with a sick wife seems to me to be that they lack the ability to ask one simple question which might have many answers: ‘What would you like me to do for you?’

Remember shopping pre-Internet? What era/memory in the evolution of shopping do you think of most fondly?

It is so sad when you don’t get to ‘toyshop’ at Christmas. Fortunately my daughter does some for an outreach program at her school and we both have a lot of fun with it. It is funny to hear a girl of 17 reminiscing about Santa…

My sister knew guys who worked in downtown Boston in the early 70’s who would buy sandwiches and then sit on the steps in Filene’s Basement and watch the women trying on clothes - a little perverted, but quite tame by today’s standards!

I am glad that they still do the ‘running of the brides’ - even that isn’t quite as wild as it used to be.

Ah Belinda, you take me back to the days of the original ‘Filene’s Basement’ in downtown Boston! No beautiful displays, no dressing-rooms, but plenty of great deals.

My mother and I would take the ‘T’ into the city every other month or so for shopping and lunch and a walk on the Common - it was always fun. Now I avoid the city like the plague (or swine flu?), do most of my shopping on-line or just go to small local merchants.

What's your viewpoint on a one-term presidency for Obama, no matter the reason?

It’s a conspiracy, Phyllis, because it has happened to me as well - and I haven’t eaten Spam since I was a small child!

Did You Ever See a Book Cry? by Sheila Nevins

Nothing beats a real book with all of its glorious pages bound together. This thread has me thinking: would people be more likely to interrupt your reading if they saw you with a Kindle (tech device) or a book?

Has your mother's style influenced your own? In what way?

Ditto - sweatshirts will never receive the status of ‘chic’ or ‘classic’ so my mother is out of luck there. And yes, I do clean myself up and become presentable before going to the market. I would never wear gym clothes or gardening gear out to do errands.

Political Cover Stars? Spare Me! by Mr. wOw

Ample Ears’…ever the diplomat, Deber!  ;)

He can just go back to Gordon Sumner if he wants to be a political analyst - Chris Matthews would probably drool all over him!

Too bad we can’t just appreciate an artist’s work without also being entitled to their irrelevant opinions.

Deber, did you happen to see the piece on msn.com over the weekend with Sting’s statement that he believes Obama is a ‘gift from God’?

I don’t know about you, I think we should all be checking in with Sting periodically to see what further ‘gifts’ might be bestowed upon us!

What was your favorite book (or books) as a child?

The Box Car Children is an awesome series - I made sure to read it to my own children because I loved it so much!

Chapter books in a series were something I just couldn’t get enough of. I have loved reading since being introduced to Dick, Jane, Sally, Spot and Puff in the first grade. The Anne of Green Gables books were great. She was a fine example to anyone who didn’t feel the need to always conform.

Caption This!

The milliner said that hat was perfect for you? Really?

Can you say: Tag! You’re IT!  (now clean up the mess we made with your taxes and money we just never had) Then the anointed one will nab another book deal and more speaking engagements - perhaps the time is now for the federal government to enact a law to attach a former president’s future earnings ‘for the good of the union’. That is one tax I would fully support!

Can you hear the Greek chorus? ;)

So by now his divinity is seriously in question - some of us are not surprised. It would be so sensible to scuttle the healthcare bill and seriously try to figure out how to repair the economy which is definitely broken.

Who am I kidding? Those in power don’t care who has healthcare coverage and who has a roof over their heads. It’s all about THEM.
