Although, I agree with much of what you have to say, there are other points that I question. There are 2.3 million Americans in prison; China, for comparision, has 1.6, with 4 times the population How many criminals in China are put to death instead of put in jail?

 It would be nice if Roman Polansky could do some type of community service but is that a deterrent for others that commit the same crime? Should the pedophiles that get caught on "To catch a predator" show, or a teacher or coach that is convicted for having sex with their student also make a film or some other type of community service?

I agree that the penal system needs to be fixed in the US, but with the system that we have today, prison needs to be designed for punishment and a deterrent for those BEFORE they commit a crime.

 I guess Im looking at the narrowness of what should be done in this case… where as you are looking at the big picture…. thanks for sharing your opinion.

I dont think that you or Candice are in favor of raping a child.

I just dont understand the stance that he shouldnt be punished for commiting that crime.

Living in a Swiss chalet, with all the comforts of home, doesnt sound like much of a punishment. Candice also suggested that he pay for his crime with money….. that doesnt cut it….. when you commit a crime, you lose your freedom and liberty.

I believe he should go to prison for the amout of time for his plea agreement plus whatever time is warrented for him jumping bond. If he didnt run, his sentence would have been over long ago. 

Madoff is an old guy that "got away" with his crime for a lot of years…. the call for his head was loud and absolute…. he stole money.  Polanski raped a 13 year old girl… he admitted to it…. he ran from his sentence….. has got away with his crime for years now….. his old guy status is one of the reasons that is being offered while looking for leniency.

Roman did not steal innocence from this girl. She may not have been a virgin, but she was still innocent. At age 13 she cant give consent… a child doesnt have the understanding that is needed to make that kind of decision….. Just because she was raped in the past, does not make it alright to rape her again.  He did not drug her. Mixing qualudes and champagne is being drugged. Again, children cant make the decision if drugs and alcohol should be used much less mixed. He did have sex with her which she has described in detail in the transcripts He knew she was only 13….. Adults are the ones that are supposed to be the responsible ones.

Maybe I’m wrong, but if this was a trauma, why would she have acted as if it were not? She had learned at age 13 that sex is alright….. The people that she is supposed to trust have allowed her to be treated wrong…. she, incorrectly, thought that it was all normal….. sex at age 13 is not normal.

He did not molest Kinski––he had a love affair with her! Really Phyllis? She was a 15 year old actress and the adult director made her feel special…… Let me ask you…. you dont find that is was wrong for him to have sex with a 13 year old…. a love affair with a 15 year old…. how young is too young for a child to have sex with an adult?

At no point did I state the man shouldn’t be punished; ….. I read your post 3 more times….. no where in that post did you say that he should be punished, or what that punishment should be. 

the victim in this story wants the rape put to rest.  She is the one who should have the say in if she wants to pursue justice or not. She did say that she wanted to pursue justice, that was why he was arrested. She has now said that she wants everything to be dropped… not because "justice was done" but because it was in her past. The open case is not her case… it is a case of the State of California. 

He has already made his millions…. the rest of his live will be in the lap of luxury of he doesnt have to pay for his crimes….. I just dont understand the "just drop it" attitude…… If he went to jail, he would find justice in about a week

I have read about 90% of the posts. What disgusts me the most of what I have read are the people that claim to be advocates for women and children. These advocates support the pedophile Polanski. They have said that as long as the victim forgives him, he should go free.

How is that advocating for victims? If you are an advocate and you believe that Polanski should not be punished, you should get a new job.

Does it bother you that when Nastassja Kinski was 15 years old, Polanski took advantage of her youth as well. We know of 2 children that he felt the need to molest. How many others were there?
