Post-Election Postmortem: Did the Election Help or Hurt Women in Politics?

We understand that the women of integrity, preparedness and ethic who have led the way are our models for our future in any capacity. I believe that Palin’s candidacy will have helped future elections in the respect that any future candidates will be more prepared. Particularly women. It is going to be the case for a long time that women will be scrutinized and bias will be made against, on topics men sail through. It is reality that has subtlety in our society to this day. Its an easy one to miss, but is reflected in the basics like pay, no matter the genesis or reason behind it. My guess is that anyone male or female looking toward a future in public office is looking at updating skills as we muse about it simply because the intense scrutiny will follow them for a long time. Memory is funny though, it will be interesting to re read these conversations when she or another like her makes an appearance on the world stage again. I loved the comment made by Gloria Steinem wondering whether Palin questions why she was used in such a way-but don’t we teach people how to treat us? Maybe trivializing, but true none the less.

Whoopi Goldberg: We Have Finally Become Part of the Fabric of the United States of America

This election was driven by a passionate man who spoke, connected to and met us face to face as a passionate country. My aunt in Arizona replaced her tattered flag today - she patiently waited, watching it deteriorate over the years until last night. My friend sighed and cried in relief that this man of integrity will be our representative to face the immense challenges we have in front of us. My grown son is fearful, bitter and afraid. I am overjoyed that even though I face the hardest times in my own memory; that I can be at peace that Barack Obama is MY president. I am blessed, grateful and have tremendous respect for him. Congratulations to all of us.

'My Friends Become My Family of My Own Choosing'

Ms. Dee - you would be one of the wonderful Introverts of the world. People have a hard time understanding us because we can be so content alone (dare i say i have so much fun with myself it should be illegal?). You might enjoy some of the articles at one of my sites called www.introvertbydesign.com. You’re right: introverted is not anti social…but people are so trained to value outgoing more than introvert, it just makes it a challenge to have to explain all the time.

Monica Crowley: There's a Fine Line Between 'Maverick' and 'Ass'

With this election coming to a decision, the truth is that we should fear electing a president who veers course (midstream to boot) so frequently. He is dog paddling in circles, biting in fear himself. I will be stunned if I have to watch him get elected-if this does happen I will mourn the future of our country. With a Palin McCain presidency (Palin’s words mind you…) And after spending my attention wincing every time george represented me so poorly, will i stand behind a vengeful old president and a bumbling vice president who somehow got the forgiveness of a large group of voters but who will likely lead (hardly) in the same way she abused her power to date? Simply-No. Read the Rolling Stones article-thank you Chips. Obviously his military career is off the table in any discussion (how unpatriotic to straight talk).

Tina Fey Nails Palin. Again. Saturday Night Live Interview Skit with Amy Poehler as Katie Couric (VIDEOS)

Palin is a manifestation of George Bush. I just watched both videos and they’re horrifically similar (yet; hilarious.) I didnt know reincarnation could happen when without the soul of the other leaving the body…oh, wait a minute…

Palin Defends Claims That Obama 'Pals Around With Terrorists'

conservatives accuse liberals of not being christian-did i hear that right? Just heard a spot on NPR about Liberty University’s effort to register all students locally so they will be more inclined to vote locally and to vote to impact the lean of Virginia. This is admirable and i respect their effort. As the interview went on, the interviewer tried to find liberals to speak with. The sole comment that saddened me was the liberal student who said when he told his peers he was liberal they asked if he was really a christian. This is the most deep bias bordering on ignorance I have heard. i live in the Houston area and unfortunately experience much of the same bias

Palin Defends Claims That Obama 'Pals Around With Terrorists'

Her approach is precision washington/political. Doesn’t sound outsider to these ears. The stories behind the stories of Sarah Palin are extremely informative, and their unfolding will teach us about Palin’s own character. The glass house of politics is interesting and the ability for politicians to deny accountability for their own transgressions…many of Palin’s we’re yet to discover, is hard to swallow no matter what side one sits on.

Yesterday was World Teachers' Day. Who was your favorite teacher and why?

Frank Gilleece - high school english at Earl L Vandermeullen High School on Long Island. This man had an influence beyond literature, english or writing-all left brewing feverishly in me. He was understated yet taught as much in word as by example. What i remember is his integrity. Now he is an actor enjoying his stage life as much as I hope he did his classes.

Loud-Mouth-and-Loose-Lipped Palin Owes Obama an Apology for This One, by Margo Howard

It seems that McCain invited the fox into the henhouse thinking he had his eggs covered :) but in fact they’re exposed and in danger of never amounting to anything. Astonishing that people grab onto this train; but again those who still respect dubbya are in fact those who like mccain’s approach to our country: rose colored glasses that make everything seem ‘fundamentally sound’.

Liz Smith's Proposition for Mary Wells

Today my louise is Toney. He (yes he) is the person in my life today who would give serious thought to getting in that car after we did the unthinkable. Today of course the unthinkable would be that we put Obama/Biden signs in our yards, wore tees for the campaign and secretly met in a dimly lit room speaking in code (about Toney’s right to marry Ron, my hopes that my daughter and two sons will live in an equitable work and social world) with the rest of the small group of Dems here near the woodlands texas. Sigh. I love Toney…he completes me. I have may Louises. I love them all, today Toney is my Louise.

Palin, Biden Face Off Tonight in Big Debate

[from my post on another topic] Tonight’s debate was exceptional. I retract my comment that the debates are not more than posturing - this was refreshing, invigorating and a true debate. My hat is off to both Palin and Biden. It is a pleasure to see two lightning rods for criticism show up, put up and give us all what we were looking for. My vote was ‘cast’ essentially weeks ago if not longer. I am proud of Palin’s ability for this debate and overjoyed that Biden brought for me anyway the stellar poise to take the day.

Hasselbeck 'Really Upset' With 'The View'

The view like this website is someplace we invest our attention to because it makes us: Mad Informed Engaged Talk and best of all - well rounded if we get to (or choose to) hear all the opinions. The deal for me is that i want everyone at the table-i don’t always agree with myself let alone conservative viewpoints…but i learn from it and i cherish the fact that it is possible. I find it distasteful that we have to destroy someone in order to have a discussion. Elizabeth is someone who has strength, integrity and character. Period. I suspect the premise of the ‘vew’ is that - everyone gets a view.

In honor of National Non-Violence Day, fill in the blank: Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with _____.

let it begin with…seeing from another’s perspective. Once that happens, there will not be much room for violence.
