An Open Letter to Amy Dickinson

Ann Landers will always be a yardstick that every advice columnist will measure her/himself by - including you, Margo. I’m sure that Amy did not mean any disrespect. Your cousin’s website mentions your mother and aunt, and your own ‘blurb’ mentions your mother as inspiration. Every morning I read your cousin’s column, Amy’s, and Carolyn Hax’s, and read your columns here. All have wonderfully new insights to human behavior, and all write with a keen sense of wanting ot help. I’m sure that even Miss Manners might agree that HOW Amy worded her ‘new Ann Landers’ remark may have been misinterpreted. I thought that Amy made that remark to announce to viewers who were not familiar with her column to read her advice column.

Judith Martin on Who Should and Shouldn't Wear White to Weddings

I agree. I always thought that considering how expensive white fabric was (at one time), and especially white silk, that the color was limited to the very wealthy or royals. I had read that in Spain, red was the color for the bride, as red represents life. Personally, I married in a lovely shade of dusty pink, simply for the very (personally vain) reason that I look good in pink, and washed out in white.
