There is a huge vacum in the Republican party. No leadership, failed leadership, and they are now The Party Of No.

This is unhealthy for our country as the opposing party has no strength to form alliances in congress that could help all Americans.  GOP appears frightened and in disarray which paralyzes our government.

Rush Limbaugh pushing in simply makes the GOP less powerful and therefore more dangerous. All failed states arise from power vacums.

The republicans have become a party in denial and as a consequence stick to their old failed ideas as if they were not actually one of the main reasons for our financial collapse. GOP hate government and brag about it.

Reid is a weak senate leader and can’t muster the proceedural and political clout really necessary to fight for Obama’s programs through the senate. Pelosi will be called a witch because she is a strong personality and political leader. Whether she’s right or wrong she is a first in this job, and both women and men will be hypercritical.

I feel making judgements about Updike’s personal life means nothing. The only thing I judge is his terrific writing.

Madoff and Co were in league with those at the SEC protecting him and other Ponzis coming to light. Madoff is still gaming the system. A huge and organized public outcry that demands justice and jail now for this monster has not happened. Instead of complaining to each other we need to make justice happen now. Trust that Madoff will continue to lie,cheat, and deceive in jail or out. But in jail would be better.

How can this be considered as private information? Who really knows[ even now], who the others are who were taken in and may not yet know it. Shareholder, pension,credit swaps,401K,foundation, money was involved here and it affected the markets. How can this be privately held information? We are all involved. Anyone thinkng they could make huge money on stocks and other vehicles through Madoff knew he was involved in the market. The market is where mostly EVERYONE’S MONEY was invested. This has to be public knowledge. Madoff was manipulating and losing money for entire Townships and Communities, Universities, Charities, Foundations, etc. Who in hell cares about the names of those who foolishly entrusted this monster with all their money? The problems here are more than Madoff. The SEC failed miserably to turn him in and was loaded with Madoff relatives and friends, along with Bush’s favorite incompetent Christopher Cox. There are other Ponzi’s that will be coming to light that were red lighted at SEC who did nothing. Cox was put in charge of SEC to keep it starved of competent and sufficient staff, and……..to favor business &..look the other way as much as possible. Which they did to all of our detriment. Madoff impacts our whole system as part of the indifference and corruption that made transparency a no no, and allowed the toxic behavior on WallSt,Mortgaging,& Banks that brought the system down.

I think Julia Reed is hipper than she thinks. First buying American is the coolist. Then what’s wrong with a pre-owned car? It’s smart. I’ve owned several pre owned and they were great buys and great cars. Right now I’d put the $40,000 [safely] away, but if I were forced to spend it on a car it would be a pre owned American .

I don’t care about pot. But Phelps has been given millions to set himself as an example of a wholesome athlete that young people can look up to. Wheaties and pot don;t really mix, and this behavior will probably cost him. He’s a great athlethe, and I wish him well but if he wants the goodies he’ll have to exert self control.

Alex, Obama is not running for President. He got the job. His resume was looked at many times, his family, his grandmother, the way he was encouraged to experience an education. His scholastic and personal history is well known. Get over it. He’s The President.

I think the stimulus package going to the Senate is a hodgepodge with some good stuff in it, but it’s become a political football. Republicans want to see tax cuts and more of the same that got us into this mess. Obama’s bill has some pork. But this is fundamentally a result of Bush economics and a lack of regulations or transparency. McConnel seems to indicate the GOP will be obstructionist. If so, this will be the lullabye thats puts the GOP to sleep for a very long time. But instead of a clear list of what’s in the bill, the Democrats have piled other than real stimulus in this bill, and we are fed snippets of information piecemeal. This was not strategized correctly from the get go, and I hope it gets streamlined and we all know what’s in it before the Senate vote. The House’s total rejection of stimulus bill by GOP is an indication of how hard their arteries are.

We’re lucky to have Dr. Andersen’s words for the coming month. I know we’ll wind up healthier, more aware, and most probably enjoy a better life for a longer time.

Any progress made to equalize women’s compensation and fair treatment will be resisted by the male dominated corporate/legal/military establishment. All the more reason for this piece of law to become commonplace. It will take time to nudge the guys in the sandbox to give up their unjustified sense of entitlement. We need huge cultural change. Men are accustomed to viewing women as unpaid helpmates,mothers,housekeepers,etc.at no pay. Just gratitude? In the workplace we have performed in the same jobs and been paid less and received less benefits than men working and executing the same duties.
