This horrifying act breaks my heart.  This brings to light the fact that the mental health system in this country is sadly inadequate.  The mentally ill have rights as citizens, and cannot be forced to take their medication.  Many do not like the feeling of being medicated.  My ex said it made him feel like he was wrapped in cotton, and that when he was unmedicated and manic, he sometimes felt like he was touched by God.  It is also incredibly difficult to watch someone 24/7- you still have responsibilities elsewhere.  You can’t have someone locked up unless they’re proven to be dangerous.  When they’ll erupt can’t be predicted.  My heart goes out to the family.
