Political Cover Stars? Spare Me! by Mr. wOw

GQ is a newsmag cover? You are reaching there. Having our POTUS on the cover of a fashion magazine in the midst of a financial crisis, 2 wars, a health-care debate that is polarizing the country, immigration issues, etc., is highly inappropriate. If nothing else, it leaves the impression of narcissim and disregard for the current situation of our country…sort of like his "date night" in New York.

Liz Smith: The Apocalypse Arrives – Is It '2012' the Movie or Is It … Sarah Palin in 2012?

Hi Maggie, I agree with your assessment of polling methods. Also, how about people who don’t answer the phone unless they recognize the number? I think probably the only people that participate in these things are older citizens without caller ID. My home line only goes to a fax machine :).

Dear Margo: When You Think You've Heard Everything ... You Haven't

letter#2…this is from the groom-to-be’s SIL. I would not expect to be in the wedding party of an in-law unless I was very close to the couple…not just "get along well" with the bride-to-be. I would also guess that they may be wanting to limit the size of the wedding party (maybe due to related expenses) and they are only including immediate family and close friends in the wedding party. As far as kids go, I was of the attitude that whatever my pre-school ring bearer and flowers girls pulled at the ceremony that it would be cute/amusing. ..I think weddings, while they are certainly a serious occasion, should be a fun event. Many do not feel that way, they are very serious and many brides take things way too serious. Taking this issue personally is a waste of time and energy.

Will you change your mammogram routine given newly released guidelines?

Kathy Lee, my first thought when I read this headline was how coincidental it was that this recommendation is coming from the government just as they are wanting to take over our healthcare! I will continue with regular scans.

The Palin Book, as Dear Margo Sees It

Why is 400 pages in 4 months so amazing when Congress added 400 pages to the healthcare bill overnight? Then they approved it. So even more amazing is that something critical like the healthcare bill can be thrown together, read and voted on in a short time and people are making a big deal out of Palin’s book, which is of really no importance to the country.

Obama in a Box of His Own Making, by Liz Peek

The key word in "free clinics" is "free". Emergency rooms are not free and have never touted to be so. I am passionate about THIS BILL not going into effect because I believe it will bankrupt our country and will not help those in need RIGHT NOW anyway.

Phyllis, how about the 10th amendment to the constitution? It states that anything not addressed in the constitution or the 1st 10 amendments shall be addressed at the state level.

Leigh, thanks for the info! I’m still trying to plow through the 1090 pg version of Pelosi’s bill. Couldn’t bring myself to kill anymore trees and print today’s version until I finish the other.

Maggie,

"Both House and Senate have bills that would provide near universal coverage for the first time. More than 95% of Americans would be covered. Presently, 17% are uninsured and millions face continued financial ruin if they become ill. "

So, this trillion dollar++ healthcare overhaul that creates more bureacracy will increase insured Americans by 12%??? And they are going to fund it in part by decreasing M&M fraud? PUHLEEZE! I read an article today about several watchdog reports regarding fraud that were ignored totalling BILLIONS. I’ve said this before. We don’t need a 2400+ page paperweight to alleviate the current issue. Spur competition among insurers by allowing interstate purchases, expand M&M benifits to those on umemployment and build clinics that charge on a sliding scale for care. The first 2 items could be done in less than a week and the third could be up and running in 6-12 months with the PROPER planning. This healthcare bill will help noone for 3-4 years.

It's the Abortion Issue, Stupid, by Mr. wOw

Deni, I whole-heartedly agree about fighting for the children. My fiancee works in a children’s ER. If he ever loses his job it will be for beating the crap out of some child abusing scum.

Good for you Deniseann! I’m so glad that things turned out well for you. The judgemental attitude of the other poster is infuriating. I think that you justified your position very well, although I probably wouldn’t have given her the satisfaction.

I don’t think that educating young people about safe sex/birth control encourages them to have sex. I have two teenage daughters that haven’t even had their first kiss and we have a running open dialogue at our house about sex, drugs, drinking, religion, etc. My 15 y/o told me yesterday afterschool that she’s turned down 2 boys for dates this week. I’m a firm believer in preparing children for reality. They have witnessed 2 older girls that were like their "big sisters" get pregnant, this has been a big deterrent to them as well. My girls know that I would prefer them to not engage in sex while they are teens. I’ve told them many times that they at least need to abstain until they can take full responsibility for all potential consequences of their actions.
