Playing Pretend With Whoopi Goldberg

When it comes to the phone and pretending… if I get caught off guard and do not want to talk to the person, I say I am my sister and somehow that entails having an accent also. Fools them. I guess.

happy Friday the 13th and Happy Birthday!

'Incurable Optimist' Michael J. Fox Talks to Dr. Holly Andersen

Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 st1\:*{behavior:url(#ieooui) } /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:”Table Normal”; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-parent:”“; mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0in; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:10.0pt; font-family:”Times New Roman”; mso-ansi-language:#0400; mso-fareast-language:#0400; mso-bidi-language:#0400;}

Michael J. Fox is the reason I never had children. When his show, “Family Ties” was on the air, he played Alex Keaton, a rather conservative son to a very liberal parents. I did not think I could be as brave as Steven and Elyse Keaton. Something to do with the Karma my mother was sending me.   It was a funny show and he was brilliant in playing Alex (maybe a little too convincing for me).

I believe Michael J. Fox brings a quiet dignity to what life threw his way. And again it is all about how we handle what life deems fit to put on our plate. Sometimes it is the smallest (no pun intended, Mr. Fox) of annoyances that can cause us to have a meltdown on the LIE or in front of our friends and families. And sometimes it is all about stepping forward and becoming a champion for the plight of others. I would say Michael’s greatest role is that of “Lucky Man.”  He got the memo about life and is doing the living…one simple step at a time.

Just loved his new book - I look at that face on the cover and I look up at all that I have an am so grateful.

You inspire so many people…to do better in their lives. Thanks, Michael.

Mary Wells: Feeling Stuck, Baby Boomers? Paula Forman Has the Solution

this gives me hope with my book proposal on midlife women. Our numbers are so high and the potential to make a difference in the world is enormous.

Thanks for keeping the fire under the other boomers. What have we got to lose? A better life and more fun and freedom?

sometimes we make a change and sometimes it is thrust upon us. Either way it’s an aopporuntiy.

I lost my job, became a certified life and career coach and started my book. I just want to keep being surpised by life and also by what I am and can do.

Thanks for the reminder!

Marie Moore Shooting Shocks Nation

I see I went to the wrong blog today. May you all be happy together. You dserve each other.

Marie Moore Shooting Shocks Nation

I think calling people whack jobs is really off. you can call them criminals criminals, but sick people who kill are not whack jobs. They are sick people who got their hands on a gun.

so all these people who have killed innocent people over the last few weeks (father killing his 5 children) have rights to bear arms? so much for protecting his family.

Marie Moore Shooting Shocks Nation

I don’t know why people are so shocked by this. Do we not have enough guns in this country for every man, women, child and growing fetus to own? come on, you waited too late to make gun control a reality.

you had to have your guns just in case the Indians were circling your villiage, right?

I  was very annoyed about the remark about gun control garabage, so get back to me when someone kills someone you love with a gun they had no right to own.

will we ever have gun comtrol? Will we get guns out of the hands of criminals or people with emotional and mental issues? I think not. Not as long as people think gun control is garbage.

Gotta go  we have to get the wagons into a circle.

Candice Bergen: What Murphy Brown Would Have Said About Sarah Palin

This is what I would have said to Sarah Palin if given the chance. I think it sounds like Murphy: I have been carrying around this fear that wakes me up at night and leaves me feeling like I don’t have the right to feel happy about the future. That none of us do. And it is because of what you have been spewing about. About Senator Obama and who he is and who he knows. First of all, I think slander of any kind can be dangerous especially if the wrong people wrap their warped minds around it and proclaim it to be their truth. Then we are in for some major trouble. And in my heart of hearts, I don’t think you would want this on your conscience. I am disagree with almost everything you say and I can fight to keep your thoughts from becoming a reality, but I can’t be responsible for somebody else’s behavior because of what you are saying and what this campaign has been doing. But , you and the campaign of McCain will be held responsible. I strongly feel that all of this talk about Bill Ayres and Senator Obama has got to stop and stop now before you cause some unthinkable tragedy to happen. People have got to stop saying the name “Hussein” as if towers will fall and people will die. It is a name. Nothing more. Nothing less. It is not evil. Words can make people overthrow rational thought and do things they might not have considered if this type of talk does not stop now. You have got to stop pouring gasoline on the fire that is burning in the deranged hearts of some of the people in this country. Please stop it now. I do not want to hear that some good man who was meant to bring a new future and sense of hope to a lot of Americans will not be around to see the dream realized. I don’t want to read of his widow’s pain and taste the salt from his daughter’s tears. Been there. Done that. I was a child when JFK was shot down and a your girl when the two fine and strong voices of hope were tragically silenced within months of each other in 1968. I can’t have that happen in my lifetime again. There are too many of us out there who bear the wounds of a few who believed an untruth and took deadly action. They silenced our hope, they crushed our peace and they had help. Words pushed them off the deep end. Oh, yes, they had help. You don’t have to be living in a trailer to feel you can bring down a good man. There were parties held in mansions after Caroline Kennedy lost her father too soon. Hate can wear overalls and sport a few less teeth just as much as it can walk around in a suit that costs more then some people make in a year. I never thought I would be reduced to begging, but it means this much to me and to all the people who know that it only takes one person to turn the world up side down. Please, MS. Palin stop all this talk about Senator Obama making nice with a national terrorist. Don’t give a sick and delusional mind permission to end yet another dream. You would not be able to forgive yourself and neither would I.

Whoopi Goldberg: We Have Finally Become Part of the Fabric of the United States of America

I do remember not being old enough to vote for the Kennedys and wanting to be part of it. I have not felt this sort of excitement until yesterday. I had chills and choked up as I walked into the booth and cast my vote. I voted for all of us to come together as a nation and become one for the first time. We did it!

'The View' Ladies Tussle Over Obama, Bill O'Reilly and Who's a Communist (Video)

she wanted to come across as a regular person - a soccer mom married to a Joe six-pack. They don’t have that type of clothing budget. Lots of executive women don’t either. Did I think she would do the shopping herself? No. .

'The View' Ladies Tussle Over Obama, Bill O'Reilly and Who's a Communist (Video)

So yesterday they reveal that the republicans have poured $150,000 into Sarah Palin’s wardrobe. I never had a clothing allowance like that. Ever. And no one every accused me of not looking hip, current, edgy, bohemian, and chic. But I never looked vice presidential either. Phew! And I never came close to spending that type of money. The truth be known, I would love to just go out and spend like a drunk on a lost weekend, but I think my conscience would bother me. A little. I don’t pay retail. I know what clothes cost to make. And if you don’t, it costs nearly nada to produce. The mark up on clothing could choke a horse and the Park Ave . matron who road into on town on it. But, she has more money than God. And you don’t have to spend money on clothing that will fall a part after a few washings. Girlfriends, it doesn’t have to happen. I have a childhood friend who was the CFO for Vera Wang. She doesn’t buy retail either. So the Republicans went to Saks and Neiman Marcus (also known as Needless Mark ups) and spent $150,000 on clothes. That will be out of style in 6 months. So how much should one pay for a black skirt? $5K ? A red leather jacket (is that moose skin and did she shot it herself) for $12k? So how many of you soccer moms have spent that sort of money on clothes in a couple of months? If you have, I would like to move my family into your pool house. The cats don’t each much and Ruby hates the water. So they had to dress up Sarah Palin up? I would have found a sliver or respect towards her if she rejected that notion of frivolous spending in this day and age. So many of the people and families she and McCain are trying to win over never see that kind of money in a year or more. I am not going to get into Michele Obama’s wardrobe, but the money was not spent on her outfits I kinda believe it was to keep people on the message. And not the package. Okay, I am willing to make a compromise. I am very generous soul. How far would 50K gone in stores like T.J. Maxx, Macy’s or even Target? You would still be shopping. And that extra 100 grand? How about providing fanciful Thanksgiving dinners for well deserving families who are struggling to make ends meet? How about paying some of the bills of families who lost family members because of the war the sitting president thought would be his legacy? I could help. I know where the good deals are. You betcha!

5 Things You Can Do If You Lose Your Job

Great blog. Another thing I would suggest is to take the time to think about what you really want to do with your life. This could be a great time to do a little “reinventing of oneself.” I did it and it is probably the best thing I did when loss of job came a knocking. I made a list of what worked, what was no longer acceptable in my life( like bosses who have an ongoing relationship with their dark side) and I came up with working with women. I went back to school( by way of teleclasses) became certified and am now a life coach. Has the economy impacted the world of coaching? Yes, but people need support and an advocate so while things may be a little more quiet then I would like, I am doing those 5 steps listed above and THEY DO WORK! Was the change scary? You bet it was, but if I didn’t at least look at other options, I might be working with another boss who visits the dark side at lunch. Take a look at what your strengths are and see where it just might take you. And listen to your intuition - it never lies. And believe that things will get better. Like a very wise man once said: Thoughts become things. choose the good ones.”

Fey: 'I'm Done' if McCain-Palin Wins the White House

Sarah Palin sent my husband a letter! A girl (or me) can’t even go to her mail box these days without finding a letter from some woman looking to sweet talk her husband into giving up his hard earned money. There is was – a letter to my husband from Sarah Palin. Would Ms. Palin had crossed out his name if she saw the liberal thinking magazines that filled the mail box? Or would she have hand delivered the letter while I was at an Obama rally? Now, really, Ms. Palin. I never said you could darkened my doorway. I felt icky. It’s a new political term for I would rather die then for my mailman to think I would allow this sort of propaganda in my home. Okay, earth to elizabeth. My husband is the R word and that is why he received it. But it still hurts. A few notes to Ms. Palin: You missed a great opportunity by just addressing the letter to Dear Friend. How about “Mavericks for Merlot?” Or “Pit Bulls of America – stand up and bite the butt of any freedom loving person?” In comedy, things come in three, so here goes: “I got my heels on, a gun in my bra and I ain’t afraid to use either.” That’s how you get people to contribute to your cause. Stick with me…. So I have a fearful and pessimistic mentality? No, I don’t. You and McCain do scare the crap out of me, but when I am not thinking about losing some very important freedoms, I am optimistic and a believer in our future. Not yours, but President Obama’s future. And ours. “Live their lives as they see fit.” I nearly threw up in my mouth when I came across those words in your letter. I am wearing protective gloves. Thanks for asking. Oh, so after you try to take away a woman’s right to choose and outlaw the freedom of expression on library shelves, then we can live our lives as we see fit? I particularly liked the line, “ We must stop the Obama-Biden Democrats from taking total control of our government” Well, it will be nice to see some of that happen since the sitting president spent more time fantasizing about a dude ranch on Pluto then on the issues. But then you write in the next line, “We must have the resources to maintain control of the White House.” You just want the building or the government? You know, the White House has to be painted every few years and I don’t think you’ll make it up those ladders with those heels on. “Our party is gaining momentum.” Pray tell, where are you getting your information? And finally, Ms Palin writes (in lipstick), “Please let me hear from you today.” I think I just did that.

Loud-Mouth-and-Loose-Lipped Palin Owes Obama an Apology for This One, by Margo Howard

So now I have to add: do not wear heels until after the election to my list. Sarah the P is putting on the heels and taking off the gloves. I gave up winking because of the VP debate . I think it was around 10:08 PM that I winked for the last time. Actually, Walter thought I was losing all hope as well as the ability to breath on my own, so he asked for me to to wink once if I knew, beyond any reasonable doubt, that Michelle Obama would be our next First lady. What else will I have to give up? Okay, so now this hockey mom who wears lipstick that she swiped from a sleeping pit bull, who winks during a vice presidential debate(you would have gotten in trouble for doing that during a high school debate), who okays the aerial shooting of wolves, who reads all the newspapers in the universe but can’t remember a single one…okay, so now Sarah Palin is saying that Barack Obama’s BFF is a former member of the Weathermen Underground from the 1960s. I wish I could make this stuff up. (I know that sentence is about 100 words too long !) Okay, Barrack was about 8 when Bill Ayres was a member of the Weathermen. We are talking 40 years ago when the world was a very different place. Young people were having a voice for the first time, they were opposing a war that would put them on the front lines because men could not come up with a better, less fatal way to deal with disagreements. They were also very mad at the country and most took to peaceful ways of civil disobedience but some did go in more troubling ways of getting their point across. The country was in total chaos and Sarah was 4 years old. Violence is never right. Just wanted to say that so people don’t think I agreed with some of Mr. Ayres’ thinking. Senator Obama and Bill Ayres met at a meeting in 1993. I wonder, If I counted all the times I was in the same room with an ultra conservative or a member of the NRA, would I be guilty by association? God, I hope not. A member of my family was killed by her husband (that is a whole different blog) so does that make me a murderer? Ronald Reagan’s limo drove by me while I was waiting for a light to change on Fifth Ave.? Am I a republican because we shared space? When we were upstate last week, I saw a donkey on a farm. Does that make me an ass? Well, if it does, I am not the only one.
