Politicians worked together for the common good. Now that is certainly something we could really use again right about NOW! Do you think anyone in Washington remembers that day when they all stood together on the steps singing a patriotic song, or was it all just show? Judith, you are so right in this….if we could all just remember that we ALL share this earth together. Thank you.

I think it’s all about the gowns and partying for the girls….it’s just dress up game with alot of religious undertones. My mother who lived in Colorado Springs for many years sent me an article a few years ago about this very subject that ran in the local paper. (The Event was sponsered by Focus on the Family) She could not believe this was for real, me either. She said that she felt it was very naive of parents (Fathers in particular) to believe that their daughters would “pledge” their purity in a contract (literally) and this “ball”. I have to agree with that, I mean really…many of these girls are young teens 13,14 etc. don’t know or understand the full complexity of what is being asked or “suggested” to them. They are far more interested in spending a lot of money for their “gown” and being with their friends and going to the “ball” than they are about the real purpose of the “ball” or spending time with their fathers I’m certain. Not to mention, I think the adults are doing a HUGE diservice to these young girls by making the event so commercial. And the churches who sponsor these events make a profit. Whatever happend to talking to you daughter about how they understand the situation (having sex before marriage) and how they feel about it ?? Kids are smarter than we give them credit for. I see this as a BRIBE that parents will use to control their behavior by saying “remember what you promised”? Guilt trip. And anyway, when they get to be 16,17 & 18 life will have changed alot for these young girls….and they may feel differently. I have to agree with Miss Marlo on this one, it is definately Creepy….and then some.

Thank you….Thank you…..Thank you. I read every name and looked at every picture….I cannot think of a better way to honor these women. Why is it we never hear of these casualties? Or any for that matter…all we get is numbers, there is something wrong with that. I know from experience that there is a story behind every one of these women and what they sacrificed….because I have stood in their shoes. I am an Air Force veteran and although I served this country during peace time, I feel deeply for these families and these soldiers who gave everything….and can never forget what my experiences were in the military because they shaped me into the person I am today…and we should all continue to honor the fallen brothers and sisters that have given their lives for the freedoms that we have this day…..that is a bond that is never broken….everyone please take the time to look at these brave women and in some small way keep them and their families in your thoughts and prayers….it’s hard for them to continue without their loved ones.

Yes, I agree with you Liz. He has long been someone who seemed to be able to see both sides of an issue…and gotten alot of people to recognize the power of compromise. He has endured many tragedies in his lifetime….I wish he and his family much strength in the coming days and weeks. Thank you for posting this article.

Information is always good to have on hand, gotta hand it to you there….but I don’t think the majority of us can even relate to this lifestyle. Can we trade places for awhile?

Upanaway- You do have a point. And no I do not know for a fact that Obama has not “lied”….no way to “prove” that….according to history MOST politicians “lie”, so do most people…because we are not perfect…never will be. I’m just saying with all the “Media” getting things skewed it makes it hard for all of us to make a decision, because at this point in time I don’t have a clear answer as to who I should vote for. There is so much stuff out there, you don’t know who’s story / side to take even when you do the research (as you have). Don’t you feel the same way to some extent?

I have to agree with Barbara…Clinton is alienating people by her behavior…lying…etc. I won’t feel any guilt NOT voting for her because she is a woman….too bad because I would have voted for the “right” woman. I too only want a candidate to vote for based upon their integrity and character and qualifications. The way things are now, it’s going to be a really tough decision….for everyone.

Really enjoyed this article. Thank you Liz for giving us perspective. As for Brad, who cares if he is a guy? But more importantly, perhaps he and Suzanne should get together and promote their own “books”and “screenplays” together. Just a suggestion.

Whoopi you are by far the coolest person I’ve never met. I watch the view everyday without fail, I have always watched it but more so since you came on board. I just love the way you are able to hear all sides to everyones comments and still be able to get your point across…and keep people from going too far off course. You are an inspiration and teacher indirectly to those of us who could stand to learn a thing or two about listening. For myself I am managing more to listen to what people are saying instead of what I “thought” I heard….thank you for that life’s lesson. On yesterdays show with Barack Obama I nearly fell out of my chair with laughter when Barbara said that he was “sexy” not because she said it, but because of the look on your face…..priceless! And Joy’s comment about Lincoln was hysterical….all of you ladies keep me very much entertained and informed…and without you it just would’nt be the same. Thanks for being you!

Dear Edith- Good friends are hard to find, you are correct… I will be your friend, you made my life fun when I was in High School….circa 1977-1980, I used to try to imitate you around all my friends in drama class. Got some good laughs…Thank you. I still like you Edith.

That’s what we do as Mom’s…sometimes.

That there was a “Reason” for soldiers to be sent to Irag. As a veteran I am embarrased that my country would lead us in that direction without some sense of “real evidence”. But I support the soldier wholeheartedly because they were not given a choice…and were lied to too….now the cause does not equal the sacrifice.

Most of the time it is my bladder…those water pills. Or a dream…if it’s scary I might worry about it for awhile and try to analyze what it might mean? Lots of times really good things (creative things) come to mind….an invention, or a design idea, color of paint? Those are the ones I always try to remember…because at the time I am convinced it’s all really good ideas. …and I’m on to something…then I go back to sleep and try to remember what the idea was that I had to bgin with. Go figure.
