"Perfect Performances" Will Go Oscarless

Candice, I agree it was a beautiful film and done in the best possible way considering the diffiuclty of the subject and yet, somehow, the book had so much more impact. I shall never forget the book which I read sometime ago. Perhaps after seeing the movie, more people will read the book.

Shoes to Die For....

I was meeting my husband-to-be for dinner and wearing new high heels. Part of the way to the resturant, my feet hurt so badly, I could hardly walk. Of course, this being New York, I couldn’t find a cab. I saw a Tom McCann shoe store a’head, stopped and bought a pair of slippers for my now, swollen feet and arrived for dinner in those. Ever since, comfort NOT style has been the over-riding quality when buying shoes.

Women's Work

I recall being asked, “You don’t intend to get pregnant, do you?” on an interview. Outside of some inane answer like, “of course not.. my husband and I never have sex”, what could you say? I also recall being furious and marching into the sales manager’s office when as a travelling fashion consultant for a leading lingerie company, I found out that my daily meal allowance was considerably less than that given a salesman. I was told that women eat less and are often treated to dinner by men. We have come a long way and approaching age 80, I’m still working but have my own business where I set the rules. Jean Cherni
