No Slacks in the Office: Gail Collins and Lesley Stahl Relive the Birth of Feminism

Go figure - women are outwardly more involved in fighting for gay marriage than the ERA. The right to gay marriage gets publicity and the ERA that affects the majority of Americans languishes in limbo. I don’t get it but I am a man and don’t have to get it because my full rights are protected by the Constitution.

One of the reasons the ERA did not get enacted was that women did not have enough money to mobilize a concentrated media effort to get the message across to women that they are second class citizens. However in 2009 women have the means to get their message to all women. There is no more draft and women serve in the military and in combat. The reason the ERA is no place today is that there is no leadership or movement. Why don’t the women on talk shows talk about the ERA? In my opinion the women who have made it just don’t want to rock the boat.

I am not a woman. This is why I can’t understand why women aren’t in the streets demanding their equality under the Constitution. Men cannot lead the movement and the men in Congress on the Senate Judiciary Committee seem to be your enemies. Senator Diane Feinstein is on the subcommittee for The Constitution, questions should be addressed to her as one of your colleagues to find out why the ERA can’t get out of Committee. Questions should be addressed to the women owners of this web site as to what the women of wowowow are doing to get the ERA enacted. Yes there are feminists working hard for the ERA but obviously in over 25 years of nothing new happening more women are needed to fight for the ERA. If women with money start running public service announcements for the ERA this could inform and energize many women who are not aware of the ERA. Heck most women under 35 do not even know what the ERA is and men think it is the earned run average.

It is amost beyond belief that there is still no ERA in the Constitution.

Without the ERA no woman has a guarantee of Constitutional equality.

The ERA does not even get out of The Constitution subcommittee in the senate.

The Shriver Report calls for equality repeatedly but no outcry for the ERA.

There are two classes of women in America: Those who have money and time to own and write nice articles in this forum and those who get beaten by men, earn 77% of what a man makes for the same job, do not own real estate, do not have money to hire people to take care of their home and children. It would be great if the "haves" gave back to the women who have not enjoyed the success of the moment and are still second class citizens. Those women who have made it have done so because of the selfless attitudes of women who fought the fight for them - Bella, Gloria, Betty, Shirley ….

If I were a woman I would demand the ERA now and not take any excuses. If the Congress refused to pass the ERA I would call for a general strike throughout America to show how much women are needed in the country and workplace.

Before we call ourselves an example for the rest of the world it would be nice if the majority in America had equal rights. Men in Congress know that women can’t get it together on the ERA and so it goes. Once women have made it they forget about the others - this is human nature.Where are the women in Congress, the women in the media, the women with money, the women who BS on talk shows all day, the women in business? They have all made it and just do not care about helping other women and their own daughters and sisters. And people think women have more empathy and compassion.

Obama Declares April Sexual Assault Awareness Month

If women had the ERA then the foundation is set for all other rights for women.

March Is Women's History Month. What is the most important moment in U.S. history for the advancement of women? Biggest setback?

The most important moment will arrive when the ERA becomes law. If equality under the laws is the goal then the ERA must be passed. As long as women allow male lawmakers to keep the ERA locked up in Congressional committees they will be subject to men holding them in check. If women no longer care about the ERA they will continue to experience the wage gap, glass ceiling, limited political power and need for laws like Ledbetter. In the 1970s women got close to passing ERA. Since 1980, ovefr 30 years have past and women today now have greater political power and the money needed to mount a campaign that will get the ERA enacted. The well known celebrity women who have made it along with the female Senators and Congresspeople should lead this movement and instead they do nothing. Read the article in The New York Times Sunday March 1, 2009 Business Section page 4 and you will see that the wages of men are clearly greater than the pay for women doing the same type of work. The President, Congress and the States can no longer deny the ERA, however unless woman mount a meaningful battle for their equal rights they will miss this opportunity in history. The most important moment will be now if women take the initiative and get their ERA.

Dee Dee Myers Reveals Why Harvard's Women's Rooms Say It All

That’s great you accept not being equal, very strange.

Dee Dee Myers Reveals Why Harvard's Women's Rooms Say It All

If women are smarter than men and they might be, why don’t they demand equal rights, then they can stop complaining to the EECO and earn the same money as men for the same work. Wouldn’t it be smart to have the ERA?

Dee Dee Myers Reveals Why Harvard's Women's Rooms Say It All

I’m glad that I have equal rights. Women just don’t get it. Perhaps women don’t care that they are discriminated against. If you look at cases before the EEOC it is women who make the charges of discrimination against them - not men. Men in business know that women are not equal and that tokenism here and there is enough to fool women. I don’t get it. But I also don’t understand why a person who makes $70,000 is in a higher tax bracket than a person making $50,000 but a person making $250,000 is in the same tax bracket as the person making $2.5 million, $25 million or $250 million. I guess that’s what happens when men are in charge.

Dee Dee Myers Reveals Why Harvard's Women's Rooms Say It All

Dee Dee - women are wonderful but very foolish at times. With the new Leadbetter law it is obvious once again that women need various laws to establish their equality. I have suggested this several times on wow as well as writing to every woman senator and being ignored - boy they are real bunch of do nothings. It is time for women to once again make an all out effort for the ERA. This time it will pass easily and will set the foundation for everything else - like equal pay for the same work. I am not a woman but I have 2 daughters. I have also written the women on The View, Oprah and Hillary, Katrina vanden Heuvel etc - no answers. Sen Kennedy introduces the ERA every term in congress and it never gets out of committee. Foolish women do not undersatnd that it is the men who do not let it out of committee - this alone if nothing else shows the prejudice of men towards women, unless Kennedy is just playing around with the issue. Women today are financially different than the were in the 70s and now have the resources to mount a vigorous campaign to get this passed. The president would not oppose the amendment and the men in congress would not have b—-s to oppose it. The states would pass it under the threat of having women run against them they to would cave. The president has a strong wife who will want it and 2 daughters who will benefit from equality. This whole amendment is a no brainer at this time in our history. The bogus argument about women in battle etc is a crock since in my back yard Molly Pitcher womanned a cannon when her husband was injured during the Battle of Monmouth. In addition my next door neighbor a Marine reservist was recently called up to be in Iraq and had to leave her 8 children. Remember women needed an amendment to vote and they also need the ERA. It is time for some women to take the lead and get this done. It seems to me that the women who can lead the charge (like those who sponsor this web site) are too comfortable and have already made it so they don’t care about the rest of you - all women cannot be this foolish and fooled.

Female Lawmakers Looking At 2010 Senate Runs

Marbury v. Madison decided Feb 24, 1803 and men have dominated the interpretation of consitutional law forever since then. How about the 17 women senators taking the initiative and pushing for the enactment of the ERA amendment for all the other women in the country. It is obvious that if there was the ERA congress would not have had to pass the recent Leadbetter law. The 17 senators have made it - what is their excuse for not pushing ERA especially since there is a Democrat president and congress that will pass the amendment. The states legislatures would also pass the ERA since they would be scared of getting defeated by women. Simply amazing women are not demanding the ERA. I don’t get it but I’m a man.

Liz Smith: A-Rod and Michael Phelps – Like You Never Made a Mistake? Madonna, Still Hot at 50: We Get It, Honey. Move On!

Mistakes are an important part of life and many times a learning experience. Hopefully mistakes teach us lessons so that we can move forward and will not make the same mistake again. Mistakes also allow a time for forgiving another important aspect of life. There is a time for everything and now let us move to forgiving since we will all make mistakes and someday we too will seek forgiveness. As we explain life to our children we must also teach respect for our own bodies and the law. There are many positive lessons that can be taught when explaining A-Rod. Let’s not miss the opportunity to teach children the positive lessons that are part of this unfortunate and thankfully not fatal mistake.
