Whoopi Goldberg Talks Exclusively to Liz Smith About Her New Children's Book

I will buy this book for my girls who are 9 and 12. They each take 6 hours of dance lessons weekly (because they want to). The problems that most parents face are the cost of dance lessons, they are very expensive (including costumes) and the time it takes to get children back and forth to their lessons. With the amount of single parent homes dance and music lessons become a luxury that many parents cannot afford. My wife is a homemaker and I work from home, this allows us to give the attention to our children. There must be a way to help other parents and children. Perhaps some money should be provided to those parents who want to give their children dance and music lessons. This will not be done because it involves women and girls who do not even have equal rights in our country. The men have control over the money and it is unlikely that they will provide money for dance lessons.

Joan Ganz Cooney: 'Abortion Is None of the Government's Goddam Business'

Women must take up the fight for the passage of the ERA Amendment. If it is not quickly passed women should have a National Strike For Equality.

Do you think the right to choose should be a political issue? Why or why not?

Hi Mugsy hopefully you can stir the coals and start the fire: It is time for Congress and the States to pass and ratify the enactment of the ERA Amendment. I have two daughters 12 and 9 and they should never have to endure the degrading comments and actions that were hurled at Governor Palin and Senator Clinton because they are women. This election accented the disparity of treatment given to female and male candidates. Distasteful and degrading sexist statements and actions were part of the campaigns against both Hillary Clinton and Sarah Palin. This prejudice against women has once again brought to the forefront the need for the ERA Amendment. Yes men and women are different - but all people are different from one another. Today women under 40 know little or nothing about the ERA Amendment that failed to be ratified in the 1970s and 80s. Many women believe that the ERA Amendment was in fact enacted into law. “Who keeps the ERA Amendment locked up in committee when it is introduced every session of Congress?” The answer is simple – MEN. It is time to get the Amendment out of committee and passed by 2/3 of the House and Senate so it can quickly proceed to the states for their ratification. All House and Senator members as well as members of state Legislatures should be held accountable for their vote on the Amendment. Women who do not have equal rights even serve in combat. The Amendment is as follows: Section 1. Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of sex. Section 2. The Congress shall have the power to enforce, by appropriate legislation, the provisions of this article. Section 3. This amendment shall take effect on the day ratification is complete.

You are correct and the ERA Amendment would not only be symbolic but would give women empowerment. Why is the Amendment dead in committee each session of Congress?

Distasteful and degrading sexist statements and actions were part of the campaigns against both Hillary Clinton and Sarah Palin. This prejudice against women has once again brought to the forefront the need for the ERA Amendment. The ERA Amendment will be a boost to women’s self esteem and lives and will finally make it clear to all: women and men are equal. Yes men and women are different - but all people are different from one another. Today women under 40 know little or nothing about the ERA Amendment that failed to be ratified in the 1970s and 80s. Many women believe that the ERA Amendment was in fact enacted into law. The time has come for women to ask themselves “Who keeps the ERA Amendment locked up in committee when it is introduced every session of Congress?” The answer is simple – MEN. It is time to get the Amendment out of committee and passed by 2/3 of the House and Senate so it can quickly proceed to the states for their ratification. Hopefully you women along with Senator Clinton and Governor Palin and others will lead and work with women and men to have Congress pass the ERA Amendment immediately as the first piece of legislation when the new Congress convenes. Remember after Black men got the right to vote it took all women another 50 years to get their vote; will women again have to wait 50 years before there is a woman President?

Whoopi the Decoder Finds Out Why We Get 'Taxed up the Behind'

Sure as soon as the message gets out to kids and women take care to warn their own I am out of here for good.

Ted Kennedy Is a Lovely Human Being; I Am Praying for Him

Ms. Wells how about doing something more than praying for these young girls Quoting Dr. Bernadine Healy from an article she wrote in U.S. News & World Report February 19, 2008 : “There’s an argument out there that oral sex is not sex….To some young people , oral sex preserves virginity – technically speaking – and allows for what is perceived as risk-free sexual intimacy. From a medical perspective, however, this is sex – and generally, as practiced, it’s unsafe. People seem clueless that sexually transmitted diseases such as herpes, gonorrhea, chlamydia, and human papillomavirus [and also syphilis] can take hold in parts of the oral cavity during sex with infected partners and that the oral contact can infect the genitals, too….Granted, the major risk for STDs comes with vaginal sex, but the relative ease and growing frequency of oral sex among those engaging in casual “hookups” is a virtual epidemic in the making. Providing our young people with graphic medical information and stern parental and medical guidance is long overdue. ” This information has not been provided to young people and should be provided immediately.

Two Words to Describe Ted Kennedy: Winner, Leader

Ms. Beck you like Ted Kennedy great. Now why don’t you do something good? First Kiss

Perhaps you can lighten up when children are hurting themselves and nobody is telling them they are endangering themselves - I cannot. The government has known this for about 9 years and hasn’t gotten the message to the children. The media has known about the danger, NOW has known about the danger and women politicians know and they all have done zip, zero. When people are allowing children to harm themselves I will not lighten up until all these big shots give them the message. What are their excuses?

If you were a household appliance, what would you be?

Good one, the guys I know agreed with you.

You should tell your 13 year when she wakes up. If you don’t think I am correct then argue with Dr. Healy and the founders of this web site can fight with her also. Some people have forums open to them to do good and the founders of this web site have that opportunity and can use it in accord with what Dr. Healy is saying. or else they can continue with all this nice dribble…

First Kiss

It may become a daily issue until the media gives teenagers a loud and clear warning as suggested by Dr. Healy. I would think that your daughter is more informed than the 50+% of the teenage girls having oral sex unprotected and not knowing the health risks. If the women who add their famous names to this web site are concerned about other women and teenage girls then you would think they would get this out to the media and as Dr. Healy says get the message out to young women because oral sex and teenagers is at a crisis stage. This is a national health issue affecting young girls. I;m trying to do something that the meida is ignoring and creates great health risks to women. Sorry to throw some reality into your fun.
