Are you more worried about the economy given the violent protests in London this week?
Liz Smith Neglected Her Diary
I hope that means there may be a new Liz Smith book in the works. Even a short one of advice. Some of your aphorisms are truly great: It’s a mistake to do nothing when you don’t know what to do…do something, etc. Don’t remember your exact words but do their intent.
You are truly insightful with ‘uncommon common sense’ as Clinton said of Jackie Kennedy. The small poetry book that Caroline Kennedy did of her mother’s favorite poems was an EXCELLENT format…size, paper and print quality, organization, ratio of narrative to images, etc. To me that would be a great format of a book for you to do. Isn’t it wonderful that strangers dream up projects for YOU. Hmm. I bet you have words of advice for that, too.

No, it doesn’t distrub me that SOME of the protestors were SOMEWHAT violent at the G-20. It always happens.
I was glad to see the large numbers of protestors that underscored the severity of the problem to the leaders at the conference….none of them want civil unrest in their country so they DO get the message.
Sarkozy and Merkel’s press conference was EXCELLENT. This has been one of the MOST positive meetings of world leaders, and much good has come from it aready including that Obama is accepted invitations to go to China and Russia.
It will be all for show if they do not emerge with concrete steps for true global regulation and oversight of financial markets.
I was gratified that the protesting wasn’t against Obama…or even the other leaders…but against the bankers…thus showing that the protestors understand the problem.
What this G-20 showed was that we have a world of relatively NEW leaders and like President Sarkozy said this is an opportunity to make a truly NEW and more egalitarian world and that CONSCIOUSNESS and CONCERN rather than COLDNESS and CONTEMPT needed to be added to CAPITALISM.
Am very much looking forward to the next leg of their trip when the Obamas arrive in France.

SJ—You are hysterical. Perhaps you could work towards an amendment to the US Bill of Rights to remove the right to protest.

No, that would be the Reagan-Bush #1 that supported Saddam while he gassed the Kurds, with money, Bell Helicopters and Chemicals. They also armed both sides of the Iran-Iraq war for 7 years in order to drag it on and profit from arms sales. And also conducted the illegal Iraq-Gate and Iran Contra scam and were involved in the BCCI scandal…….the biggest bank fraud in world history until the latest Bush bank fraud. Because that’s what Bush’s do. And why not read a history book once in a while instead of getting all you ‘facts’ and your ‘script’ from the drug addled, dropout, paid hack nitwit Rush.
Saddam and OBL were supported by the US……just as the Burma Military Junta was by Bush Inc. and so many others. It’s all about money….gawd GOP supporters are dumb.

Obama Rules—Gosh this is amusing.
"ANARCHY!!!!"
The only Anarchist I see were Bush Inc that respect no International, moral, or Constitutional laws whatsoever.
"Burn them all down! Who cares who they hurt or the damage they do???!!! Their bodies, lives, and properties don’t matter. "
Again, that would Bush Inc War Profitters that knowingly mass murdered innocent civilians and destroyed another country. Spent $3T on a needless ‘war’, and deregulated deriviatives to create a global casino in place of a responsible economy.
"Those 30,000 people sentenced to the guillotine deserved "
The French saved US from the British, The US Constitution is based on the French Enlightenment ideals, and 700,000 were killed in the US Civil War. Aren’t You Missing Your Daily Infusion of Rush?

The health system is ranked #1 by the World’s Health Organization…compared to all other countries.
Americans couldn’t ‘leave this country in droves to take advantage of the French helathcare system" because they’d need to get a visa to stay, not easy, and then once there after meeting a lot of criteria get a Carte de Sejour, etc, also not easy.

Barack and Michelle Obama Meet the Queen
Barack and Michelle Obama Meet the Queen
I watched Brown/Obama’s entire press conference—it was very good.
When Bush went to London there were 250K protestors out in the street burning an effigy of him so he had to sneak in the back of Buckingham Palace and the Queen was furious because his helicopters wrecked her gorgeous garden and she thought he was totally le bouf.
The Obama’s should have given another more formal gift, and then the IPod filled with American music, privately.
Obama should not refer to the PM of England as "gordon’ in public.
Michelle looked great in the white and black coat/dress and terrible in the green skirt and sweater that I wouldn’t let my teenage daughter wear if I had a teenaged daughter. She needs a dresser to even out her hits and misses.
As far as Obama’s statement: "I think in the imagination of peoplethroughout America, I think what the Queen stands for and her decency and her civility, what she represents, that’s very important."
Speak for yourself…she is an appalling anachronism.

There’s NOTHING to debate. Protestors have a right to protest. SOME may cause a little, damage—-tough. It is idiotic to be concerned about broken bank windows when the WTO and the US England etc have created death in destruction in millions of lives. There’s NO debate these are FACTS. And people who care about the relative minor damage a few protestors may cause in the face of the MASSIVE damage and destruction they are protesting—-are akin to some drunk in a tank running over and killin a pedestrian and then wanting to sue the victim for damage to their tread. It’s INSANE for one, and neither my opinion, yours or anyone else’s will stop them. The protestors are RIGHT. Just as our Founding Fathers were for their revolution against King George. THEY were called traitors, terrorists, hooligans and marked for death if they did not prevail….which they did thanks to FRANCE.
I have NO respect whatsoever for the US GOP, their supporters, or their ‘opinions’ ie warped ‘logic’ based on idiots like Limbaugh and Coulter who are nothing but prostitutes for criminal corporations.

The French health system is rated #1 in the world by RESPONSIBLE world bodies like the World Health Organization, the UN etc. There is a vast difference between citing FACTS substantiated by global bodies and trying to shore up a point of view with the OPINION of an unknown stranger snatched off the Internet. Is it REALLY that difficult to COMPREHEND the difference?
