The Musical Stylings of Candice Bergen

Oi, I’m 20 and I do that now! Its got nothing to do with age… Anyway, You’ve made me smile. My favourite memory of" Murphy Brown" is when she’s singing with Aretha Franklin in the FYI Studio. Whenever I’m feeling down I think of you doing the "Ah-woop"s and the loop on Aretha’s face and I laugh. Never stop singing, Ms Bergen. I’m a performer (sing/songwriter) by trade and I couldn’t live without music and I’d guess that your humming of made up ditty’s probably is a way of keep yourself company… that’s why i do it, and its normally when I end up writing my best songs! Xx

Candice Bergen: The 'Classy, Charismatic' Yankees

I totally agree with Candy but I so wanted the Phillies to win. I live in Sydney, Australia and I watched the game on cable, cheering for Utley all the way. Saw my first fillies game live at citizen bank park at 16. They were vs. the Yankee’s and phillies kicked their butts. My dad bought me a Philly Phanatic stuffed toy and a cap which is probably the best gift he ever gave me. I guess thats why I love them so much. xx

Candice Bergen: Shoes Make the Man

A woman’s perfume or jewelry speaks volumes to me. I had the most amazing teacher at school, an extremely elegant Jewish woman who smelt like honey and caramel and wore the most beautiful rings, necklace and bracelet (all were once her mothers). I don’t know if it will give you an accurate impression of every woman but I’ve always tried to emulate her elegance and beauty. There’s something about the way you jingle and the sent you wear that gives off the most enchanting notions. Xx

Candice Bergen Recalls the 'Gutsy' Clifford Irving

I love that one! The movie "Hoax" with Richard Gere is great. That having been said, I’m madly in love with both Richard Gere and George Clooney so I think anything there in is an amzing work of art (and the vast majority of the time, it actully is!).

I think my favourite of all hoax’s would be the enduring crop circle saga because it always comes back to the same old question "is it or isn’t it real"?

Candice Bergen's Most Spectacular Beauties List

Don’t even get me started on Denny and Shirley. I can’t believe we never saw anything happen between them. Actually, I guess I’m ok with that but I so desperatly wanted to see Shirley with Alan. Candice, Your my fave actress ever. Please don’t stay "out of work" for to much longer. We all want to see you again on the screen. Xx

Candice Bergen's Love/Hate Relationship

Speaking of Dolphins… I was at the "The Catalina Island Ski Race" in a cigarette boat going flat out from long beach to the island when a pod of dolphins began jumping next to our boat. Oh my gosh! "Go! Go!" We waved up and off we went! Exhilarating feeling. Wish I had have been skiing it! I will next year though! Xx

Candice Bergen Remembers Telling Her Daughter About the Birds and Bees

Ok… that’s hilarious. I love that tactic of sitting your kid in the back seat to avoid eye contact. All I can say is that I never had that particular talk with my mother and thank god because, to be honest, I think it would have scared me for life. I think it was just always understood that I knew? I was told by my best friend at the time on the bus ride home from a sporting event. I think I was 8 at the time. Its not one of my more pleasant childhood memories I have to say. I don’t think a kid is ever ready to hear the birds and the bees talk. Xx Bianca

Candice Bergen Was Arrested for an Anti-War Protest

WOW! See, poeple in Australia, where I’m from, just arent as passionate about their country or their government. There’s a real sence of apathy, not all the time but enough of the time for me, a 20 year old, to notice it.

One day when I’m protesting for my cause, the craniofacial kids, of whom I’m one, whose surgeries are in the tens of thousands of dollars and so much of the time not covered by private health insurance because its deemed cosmetic (One of my little friends was born without a ear and her HMO wouldn’t cover the surgery because, apparently, having an ear is an aesthetic concern not a hearing and health concern!?). I sure that one day I will probably be arrested for that too and you know what, I’ll be proud! Standing up for what you believe in is the most patriotic thing you can do! Happy Independence day America!

All my love,

Xx B

Candice Bergen: A Different Drink for Every Location

My fav drink when I’m in the US is a good old shirley temple (cause I’m not old enough to drink in the states yet- I’m only 20) We don’t make ‘em proply here in Australia. Half the time when I ask for a shirley temple no one knows what the heck I’m talking about. When I’m back home in Sydney my fave drink is a Gin and tonic (has to be tanqueray!). As for cocktails… you really cant go passed a mai tai on the beach at the Pink Palace in Hawaii (or on the back of a catermaran looking back on Waikiki beach)… I once snuck one underage at 19. LOL  Xx

What is the best funeral you ever attended? Tell us why

It honestly does sound like a fab story for a movie. Your daughter in-law sounds like an amazing woman. I’ve spent a lot of time in hospitals and people like your daughter in-law and the type of people that make horrible experinces barable and even found to look back on. Wow… your story has really made my day. As we say in Australia, "Have a good one" (day, that is!). Xx Bianca

What is the best funeral you ever attended? Tell us why

Me too! That and the last post. When either of them are played (even the bagpipes on a happy ocasion) i start to cry like a blithering idiot. There just so beautiful.

By the way james, I used to do the exact same thing you do… You said that no one would come to your funeral or that people wound’t cry. Don’t make appologies for yourself. I’m sure your an absolute stand up human being. If you say things enough you begin to believe it. its a mantra I live by… only I do the exact oposite- I say "I’m special and people love me for who I am and those who don’t aren’t worth the time". I’m positive your a really awesome dude! Have a good day and don’t let the world get you down. Your on my "cool people" list.

What inspiring story of overcoming adversity do you know?

My name’s Bianca and I live in Sydney, Australia. I’m 20 years old, I’m a singer/songwriter and an actress (www.missbiancamoon.com). I was born with a Craniofacial Disfigurementand have had 4 plastic reconstructive surgeries and neuro surgery. Today I’m a normal looking girl (as you can see from my profile picture) but when I was born… well, lets just say there wasn’t a great deal of hope back then that I would be anything close to normal. I have organ donor muscles in my eyes, a metal rod in my nose, a shunt in my brain, I’m missing the back of my top two vertebrae and I have a 6 inch long synthetic piece of skull at the back of my head that replaces what my surgeons had to remove when I was 15.

You hear of people every so often that make you think "I am so proud of you!". Even though I don’t know either of you, Deniseann or Beth, what you have both done and been through makes me so proud to be someone who has battle scars to show for a life well lived. You didn’t give up and you both did what had to be done to be who you are today.

I was bullied so badly when I was at school because I looked different. People are so affraid of difference and its so stupid and incredibly infuriating! All I wanted to be when I was at school was normal like everyone else but then, in high school, I came across the most awesome teacher in the whole world who convinced me that its far better to be who you are… and who I was was someone who was different to eveyone else, not because I looked different but because I had the ability to keep on keeping on through everyday. It was then that I grew into myself, so to speak, and stoped try to make excusses for who I was. You never ever give up, that’s what she taught me! You guys are amazing and I love you both for all you’ve done!

PS. Ms Bergen, your my Idol and I think your totally awesome too! LOL

Lots of Love,

Xx Bianca

Candice Bergen's 'Hands-Down' Favorite Columnist

I wish we had great journo’s in Australia like you guys in the US. Where not big on the whole "free speech" thing… we just basically report on what’s going to sell papers. I’m sure that happens in the US to but its really the only thing that happens here. Its extreamly frustrating…

Candice Bergen: Out of Africa

Egypt… I’m 20 and I have to go soon so as I can take my 80 year old grand-pa while he’s still able to travel. I so hope we get there!

Do you identify with a certain heritage, culture or religion? If so, is there a particular tradition that you practice?

Since I was 16 I have told everyone I’ve ever met that I was Jewish even though I have no Jewish heritage. I was only ever named and my parents aren’t so much religious as they are spiritual. I guess there was something with Judaism that just caught me by the throat and never let me go… it possibly has something to do with the fact that when I was a little girl I stayed with a lady who was in both Auschwitz and Bergen Belsen. She impacted my life far more than I could have ever known at that time…
