We all agree everything is costing more. What can we do about it? I have stopped shopping and only buy what I need. My message to the manufactures……….You raise your prices and I’ll stop buying or I’ll go somewhere else.

Olivia, Welcome to America! You should also not miss the Blue Bonnets in Texas, the Cherry Trees in Washington or the Blue ridge Mountains. I could go on, but that’s a good start. What are hot cross buns and I’ll keep an eye out for them. I grew up eating fried minute steak, my husband grew up calling it chicken fried steak. It’s the same thing. Maybe hot cross buns go by a different name here if not just tell us how their made. I’ll check out some of Paula Deen’s cookbooks and see what I can find.

Pamela, I must tell you that I look for your name now. I see I can learn a lot from you and I’m listening. I have lived a good budget for 29 years and it’s only getting better. My sons are grown, the oldest graduated UTD and now attends Johns Hopkins for his Masters, the youngest is going off to college in the fall. Now I am ready to expand my mind and focus on myself again. Thanks for all your postings.

As a teenager (many moon’s ago) I flipped hamburgers after school. It was a great job. If you knew what went on behind the counter you might be shocked. I remember the boys would trap the bugs and flies and throw them into the fry vat and at the same time drop in a basket full of fries to be cooked. The oil in these places is used and reused until it can’t be used anymore. Food in the freezers are left uncovered. Many of these establishments are now run 24 hours. It takes along time to breakdown the drink and shake machines to clean them. I don’t think things have changed much since the 70’s. I think it’s gotten worse. Ask any kid working in one of the places today. Better yet ask them if they wash their hands.
