 I feel very, very sorry for you if that has been your MO or that of your friends and family, but I have never known a single woman who debased themselves in such a way.  And invisible past 40?  Does that include the female governors, senators, secretary of state, ceo’s etc?  The women over 40 that I know totally rock—and own not just their marriages but the town.  Again, if that is the circle you travel in, I feel very sorry for you.

My beef with Elizabeth Edwards is not about her decisions to stay with the cad,  write a book airing her family’s dirty laundry, her non-resilient, emotionally-unhealthy inability to put things in the past and move forward while trying to give advice to others, but with the fact that she lied to the entire country to further her own selfish ambitions to be first lady, jeopardizing the Democrat party, the election, deceiving people into working for or contributing to John’s campaign—and has yet to apologize to us for that. (Her explanation aka excuses for not shutting it all down revealed her own narcissism and denial of reality.) She committed fraud. In my book, what she did was even MORE despicable than what John did, because sadly, we expect caddish behavior from politicians, but Elizabeth was the one we trusted. 

Elizabeth and Hillary’s situations are nothing alike. Hillary’s husband was already in office, Elizabeth’s was campaigning.  The biggest difference, however, was that Elizabeth joined in the lies, deceiving the public, and Hillary did not.  While both might have sought to tell their stories publically, only Hillary had good reason to do so-her own career; Elizabeth does not.  Both had children, but Hillary’s was old enough to understand and endure both parents’ actions; Elizabeth’s two younger ones are not. And finally, Hillary’s husband did not produce a child whereas Elizabeth’s probably did.  No, Elizabeth is complicit in fraud and deceit as well as really bad behavior/attitude towards her children’s probably sibling, and the spin she is trying to put on it is laughable, and— to use her own word—pathetic.  Instead of resilience I see a woman who can’t let go and move forward, a woman with some serious narcissism and mental health issues. Instead of spending what little time she might have left with her kids, she’s been running around the country for two years, promoting herself and louse of a husband. She is absolutely no one’s role model and not even a good mother.
