My Comments (14 so far…)
Are you a saver or a spender?
How many nights each week do you currently cook at home?
I dont cook as much now , because I work and take a few of my college classes at night. However , before I started working in high school ( once again , late nights ) , I cooked dinner for my family every night. My parents had gotten divorced when I was little , and my mom made a deal with me when I was 14 or so. I would take care of the inside , cleaning and cooking , and she would take care of the outside , animals and yardwork. As I got older I took on the hostess and planning responsibilities and did the grocery shopping when I got a car.
Alas , I moved in with my grandmother , who lives closer to my school. She enjoys cooking as well , and will cook more oftern , although I have continued to do the cleaning and planning of events.Still , I have learned a few more recipes and will be learning how to make and can jams , pickles , and salsa from Nanbug while I live here.
Dear Margo: An Unfortunate Draw in the Parent Lottery
Having just finish high school a year ago…ITS HIGH SCHOOL. Most people cant see that until the last bit of senior year though. There is a lot of DRAMA there to begin with. Bad Break-ups happen all the time …and the realy problem is that a lot of people think this means they have to be mean … when they dont. A confident woman wouldnt feel the absolute need to lash back so violently after months. A child who has been raised to have some decency will be taught that when you have an issue with someone … raise it with them. Because in her hurt rampage for revenge, Anna has not just hurt her ex, but his parents. They are not finding themselves in a situations they werent prepared for , and while they arent handling this well now … they might have done better if their son had the chance to say "i’m Gay" rather than seeing a photo. I know that my parents were uncomfortable with me kissing my boyfriend in high school. I dont know how well they would handle it if it was not just a photo of kissing , but with an unexpected person as well.
I am not saying that anyone is RIGHT in using someone else for cover. However , I do know that in high school , one of my better friends was gay , and came out. His parents had known for some time. The guys at school however were horribly mean to him. And this guy wasnt the type to hit on other people or invade their space. He wasnt flambouyant either. He was just a nice quiet guy . And I know how mean people were to him , for no reason. I told many guys to leave him alone and was outright mean to protect him. I still am to this day.
So what I do have to say is this. Parents need to teach their children some decency and treat them how you wish for them to act.( ie… you dont want them to yell , dont yell at them ) . Schools need to offer better counceling and people must stop making it "OK" for you to hurt other people when you are mad. Because no matter what Anna was feeling , flip it. If he had taken a photo of her with a boy that he knew he parents would be very mad about … and given it to them. I am pretty sure there would have been something about him stalking her and etc. Its not ok. Its crap like this that makes high school into hell. She is wrong for how she handled this , and clearly is in need of some help. Because it is NOT healthy to be this upset for so long. Its not good for her body or her future. He is wrong for not leveling with her , even if he was confused , he could have said something. It doesnt mean it would have gone any different , but then she could have been prepared better.
His parents are also not handling this well and I love that everyone here has offered the names of organizations to help . Bottom line is that whats done is done and the writer now needs to deal with his situation that he’s in. I hope he can get the help he needs and the support. I also hope his parents can come to terms with this . Add to that , I hope Anna will seek some counseling to work out her anger for HERSELF and to build some better self esteem.
Remember that once you are out of high school… its just high school. But while you are there … its a real life soap opera and whether you choose to or not … you play a part.
Do you drink coffee?
I only seem to drink coffee when I have had to take my boyfriend to the doctor or ER.Generally because I am being woke up in the middle of the night , or up early … And that only started in the last year or so. Normally caffine doesnt do much for me , unless its part of Excedrine or something , so there wasnt any incentive to drink it for that. I rather like starbucks white chocolate mocha thingy , but I dont really care for coffee unless I can get extra expresso in it and I am running on very very little sleep.
I think thats probably because of the Trampoline incedent when I was little. My grandma used to let me sip some of her coffee ( she has it in the morning and after dinner sometimes ) , particularly when it was cold. So one night , at my little sisters birthday party I think , I drank a cup of hot chocolate , half of my grandma’s coffee and lord knows how much punch … and then jumped on the trampoline. That is the first and last time I ever got sick from being on a trampoline , but it was a long while before I could stomach any of those drinks. Coffee seems to have taken the longest.
Is getting your hair done a chore or a treat?
My hair has always been long , but in my senior year or high school… I quit letting my mom give me bangs. My hair is still rather long , at least to my bra strap in the back , and all I do it wash it with shampoo and conditioner , brush it and let it dry as it will. If I want it more curly , I buy a shampoo that is for that , although its normally rather straight. I work in food service , so I have to wear it in a ponytail or bun most of the time.
As to getting it cut or styled. I normally only go to the salon every three monthes or so. My hair grows quickly , but I dont make too much above minimum wage , so thats a budget issue. I can honestly say I have never dyed my hair or had ANY desire to do so. A lot of girls my age dye their hair and the upkeep seemed to be a chore. Add to that the amount of upkeep for things like perms , extensions , etc … it makes me glad that I have long hair that looks good without all the crazy work. I think that for some people , they over complicate the process.
The 'Ongoing After' of Grief: A Mother Copes With Her Young Son's Suicide (Video)
I hope that parents who have lost children cann find a measure of peace , but I am really glad that someone is saying something about bi-polar. Both my bestfriends have such issues and I have learned how to help them or cope with it or when to call parents. But so many people are really mean or dont understand . Its rather stupid to be honest … Either way , I hope the documentry will give people a better insight into how crazy life can be when someone is bi-polar , and how the simplest things can be a lot more than that.
So thank you Ma’am for sharing your son’s story , I sincerely hope that people dont judge you but that they open their eyes and try to understand this. And I hope you can find peace and remember the good times you had with your son. I think thats really all anyone wants … to be happy.
In which decade of your life did you feel your prettiest?
Dummkopf, C'est Moi, by Margo Howard
I appear to be considerably younger than a lot of woman who comment on here , so my list is a lot shorter. However , I do have one that makes me blush everytime I think of it ,and only my bestfriend really knows how stupid I can be.
I was never part of the "in" crowd. As a matter of fact , I was definately the scary goth girl who never had to study and always made straight A’s. My bestfriend , on the other hand , was rather popular during middle and high school. She was pretty , blonde and in all the latest trends. So , she was always using the newest slang , that I could care less about , although I can read old english like its nothing , needless to say , I would end up asking her what this and that meant. So one day , I actually decide to tell her about this conversation I had heard , about jewlery . And I tried to use the correct slang here. Well I would never use the words "bling-bling" normally ,and havent since , because on that day … I was telling her all about "bing-bing" . She laughed so hard at me and then corrected me and made me promise to never use slang again. Ironically , we are now in college and she is the one asking me questions about everything. Still I love her to death , because she has never brought it up again.
However , this same bestfriend is the cause of most of my public embarrassment. Toward the end of high school , we have settled into our group of friends , and I was in this artistic painting phase. So , I am at school in these blue pants that have elastic bands to tighten them ( it sounds bad , but they look really normal ) and my top that has paint splattered on it. I dont look half bad , rather normal for me , even cute in an artsy way. Its before class , and I am standing outside the business building with my bestfriend , one of our mutual exes ( Cameron ) and Sean ( who is my current guy but wasnt at the time ). And my wonderful bestfriend Megan , waits until I am arguing with the guys about some paper we have due , to go " Whats this ?" and tugs on the elastic ties of my pants. This doesnt cause them to fall down but does give both sean and cameron a full view of my panties … that happen to be see through mesh that day. All I can remember is Cameron staring , Sean smaking him and Megan saying sorry , while I am telling her to please let go of my pants. I dont think I have ever been more embarassed …
My third incident is with shoes. I can walk perfectly fine in stillettos , boots or tenis shoes. I will almost always fall over in flats or flip-flops. However , I decided one day to not only wear flip-flops , but platform flip flops ( I borrowed them from my little sister ) . I made it down our long dirt drive way , by myself , without incident. So , my sisters and I are waiting on our bus to get there , and we are practically the very last stop . The bus gets there , and now that I have an audience … I fall flat on my face , in front of everyone. I can not tell you how happy I was to get to school that day.
And lastly , is Senior Prom. I looked awesum. I sewed my own dress , it was cream with lace and had elizabethian era sleeves. It also had a slight train and matching pearls. I looked awesum and went to dinner with my friends. I managed to eat nachos and not get anything on my dress… I thought that was the worst that could happen. Until I walked into prom , and was almost to the punch bowl , when one of the girls with my group , hannah , stepped on my train… And the top slid down , I flashed a whole table of juniors … and Hannah never realized she did it. I was stuck apologizing to people I had never met before … The upside was that nothing could be worse and I enjoyed the rest of the night worry free. I laugh about it now…
Well , as I said , I am not that old , so most of that is from high school and has no celebrities . However , I have learned that sheer confidence and williness to laugh at yourself saves you more often than not.
Do you multitask while driving?
I admit that I talk on the phone while driving and occasionally eat bite sized foods out of containers that I have opened before I begin to move. However , of the few accidents I have been in , its generally been because of another driver . I find small children to be MUCH more distracting than a cell phone , so much so that my younger siblings can only ride with me if they are quiet and bring a book or MP3. I have also found that my MOM has caused issues.
So , I ask any parent who reads this… by all means , mention any issue you see. DO NOT start screaming , telling your kid to turn or to go now. Too many times they will just do it because you said so and not look to judge the time themselves … and in the delay you said that … a lot changes. Also , screaming , yelling , or acting upset ( when its not a complete emergency ) is very very distracting. I know its scary to drive with a new driver … but please consider that YOUR reactions can make them more nervous too. A nervous driver is gonna make a lot more mistakes.
Also , PET OWNERS … buy your pet a car seat. I own a teacup chihuahua , who tries to climb on me if she is loose in the car . So we got her a car seat that allows her to see out the window , keeps her chew toys contained , and straps her safely in ( use a harness , not a leash that can strangle your pet ). Also consider Pet Insurance if you drive with your pet frequently. I would definately advice pet owners to purchase a good pet carseat , or restraint , they are worth the cost and very easy to install. If you love you pet , you should want them to be safe in an accident !!!
How My Decision About a Late-Term Abortion Affected My Marriage, by Alice Eve Cohen
Reguardless of what I would personally choose for myself , I think women should be given the choice to make for themselves. I apply it to everything. I dont like chocolate ice cream , and wouldnt want to be forced to eat it , but nor would I force someone else to eat the flavor I prefer. I know thats over simplifying the issue.
However , I sincerely hope doctors perform pregnancy tests before such serious tests and treatments , just as a percaution. Its just one of those things that can be life and death … Any doctor that simply assumes the last one was right is generally either lazy or not the doctor you should see. No one goes from doctor to doctor if the last one was right … then they wouldnt need to see a second one.

Is your best friend a man or a woman?
You are walking in the woods and a UFO lands near you. Nonthreatening aliens offer you a ride. How do you react?
Well , being an avid sci-fi reader … I am gonna agree with the character Trisha McMillian , by Douglas Adams … there are times when you just dont go back for your bag , and when an alien offers you a lift , thats one of them. Hopefully , I will be armed with all I need. But it makes me wonder if I should be carrying around a towel now …
No but seriously … I think it would be fitting of me to leave with aliens … I dont think anyone would doubt I did it…
What is the first thing you would do if you won the lottery – and won big?
I have to say first thing , I would pay for my Honey to be hosipitalized. I know that doesnt sounds all that great , but he’s only twenty and in horrible pain , using a cane , and no one can tell him why he hurts this bad , only that its nerves. I think if they ran a whole work up and all , they could find something .
Then I would probably buy my dream house , with a ceramics room for one grandmother and a huge library for the other. I would also get my mom a real house and start a trust fund for my siblings. I would build my dad a real studio so he could finish one of his books.
I dont know if you can win enough to do all of that , but thats what I would do. Anything else would go to charity I think.
