Dear Margo: When Dad/Gramps Just Ain't Interested

I have to agree with cutting out toxic people - whether they be related or not.

The girl with the tattoos - the only way she is going to be her own woman is to own up to doing something her mother doesn’t approve of and let the chips fall where they may.  Life is full of choices that others might not approve of - it’s being your own person and living big regardless of other people’s opinions.

It seems a lot of us here on the forum have seen some very ugly tattoos.  I have seen some that look as though someone scribbled a Sharpie pen all over them, and I agree - not attractive in the least.  I myself at the tender age of 35 went into a professional tattoo place in the Seattle area and had a nice tribalized sun tattooed on my lower back.  Not only is it beautiful, but it is a tribute to my Native American ancestry, and I’ve had many ladies say, "Well, I don’t like tattoos, but I like yours!"

Mr. wOw's Love Affair With George Clooney

Oh my - i’m so in the minority here.  I guess I’m one of the few ladies on the planet that does not find George Clooney sexy, and the ONLY movie in which I ever enjoyed his presence was "Good Night, & Good Luck."  Brad Pitt?  No thanks.

I tend to slide towards men who are charismatic with a good twinkle in their eye.  You might argue with me that George has that, but for some reason, I get a smarmy vibe off him that I don’t care for.  Now, Trevor Eve in Heat of the Sun……..he was really in his prime at the time.  I’ll definitely take Jimmy Stewart as well - now there’s a man who twinkled through everything he did, be it cowboy or follower of invisible rabbit :)

Mr. wOw gives James Cameron's 3-D Movie 'Avatar' an F

Despite the fact that I do consider myself a Kate Winslet fan (Heavenly Creatures comes immediately to mind), I’ve never seen Titanic.  Just hearing the song on the radio a bajillon times kind of put me off.

The only James Cameron movie I really enjoyed was The Abyss - Extended Version.

And for the record, I’m getting so tired of classic movies redone.  The reasons they are classics to begin with are because they are wonderful in their own right.  Don’t mess with it!

Ahhhh, I feel MUCH better now :D

Living Legend Madonna: 'She Has Exposed Her Body, But Not Her Soul,' by Liz Smith

As a child of the ’80s, Madonna was one of those role models that exclaimed that a woman can do everything - and succeed.  She is one who taught a lot of us in that age group self-confidence when we couldn’t find it anywhere else.  And she also taught us that it’s OK to fall on your face as long as you get right back up and keep moving.  Both her and Cher have been icons for years and years, and I’ve never ceased being amazed and awed at their accomplishments.

Best American Wine Getaways

Our favorite winery area is the Rattlesnake Hills area (Zilah) of Eastern Washington State.  Two Mountain Wineries, Silverlake, Snoqualmie, Portteus, Claar Cellars, Tefft Cellars, Horizon’s Edge (which makes really funky ports), among others.  We’ll be heading there soon to stock up on our wine for the year ;-D

Etsy.com – Making Things and Making a Living

I know some incredible artists who showcase their wares on Etsy - you can find just about anything and sometimes at incredible prices.  I have at least 20 Etsy stores bookmarked to check on a regular basis.

Oh, the Price of Beauty, by Debra Borchardt

Me and makeup have had our ups and downs over the years.  I started wearing makeup in junior high because my complexion was so bad (a mix of rosacea and eczema - do everything I could to cover it up)  I’ve bought the most expensive makeup and the least expensive makeup, only to find neither worked for me.  The Bare Escentuals stuff did wonders, although my face wasn’t pleased with the brushing part of application for a while.  I have really downsized over the years when it comes to makeup - I also belly dance, so I keep some "loud" makeup set aside for doing dramatic eyes, but other than Bare Escentuals, some Larenim eyeshadow, and my perfume, I stopped buying the latest and the greatest.  (although I have to admit, I do press my face against the virtual window at the Sephora website from time to time just to see what’s out there)  I close the browser window before I find something I think I can’t live without :)

Did you exercise today?

I exercise 5-6 days/week - on my own with DVDs.  I prefer investing in DVDs and my own equipment than paying for a gym membership.  It’s easier for me to just work out at home than driving somewhere to do it.

Weight loss programs - from Atkins to The Zone

A modified Atkin’s diet actually worked wonders for me.  I don’t recommend it for everyone, but my particular body chemistry immediately responded to it.  I’ve lost 1/2 of my body weight over the last 5 years and have maintained a steady body weight for the last year.  That combined with belly dance, Turbo Jam, and ChaLean Extreme has made me more fit at 40 than I ever was at 20.

British Woman's Face 'Butchered' 3 Times After Horrific Plastic Surgeries

I understand that there are a few procedures that one might need for medical purposes - a few friends have gotten eye lifts because it was medically necessary - they were having a very hard time seeing because of extra skin in the eyelid area, but anything else?  No thank you! :)

The Bathing Suit Chronicles: A wOw Conversation

Good point, James.  I don’t see either why we can’t wear shorts & t-shirts either - why must it be a bikini?  I have to admit, I had never thought of it, mainly because it’s ingrained in my head that I MUST wear a real swim suit.

There are quite a few catalogues out there anymore that cater to an active woman out on the beach, and I’ve noticed a lot of the suits are NOT bikinis.  They are swim shorts and practical tops that keep the "girls" in place. I’ve been oggling those clothes as of late because not only are they practical, they are flattering as well.  I frankly don’t care what I wear as long as it makes me feel pretty and makes me stand up straight and walk with confidence.  If I put something on, and I feel all self-conscious and constantly pulling an area down or watching other areas to make sure nothing is showing, that one doesn’t get worn.

Julia Reed's Apology for Not Photographing the Redneck Riviera

It’s been my experience that the more fun and wonderment one is having, the less likely the camera gets pulled out to capture the moment.

Who, in your opinion, is the most physically beautiful woman you've ever laid eyes on in person?

I agree with a lot of the ladies here about who is truly beautiful and breath-taking.  Ali McGraw, Anne Bancroft, Natalie Wood.  Although I’ve never met them in person, the two women I always thought were just lovely is Emma Thompson - and her mother, Phyllida Law.

Michael Jackson's Daughter, Paris Jackson, Speaks: 'Daddy Has Been the Best Father' (Video)

If it was a memorial service for her dad, I find it highly appropriate she would want to say something.  Despite all the cameras and the blitz, this was still his sending-off, and if she wanted to say something, so be it.

A Conversation With Keneisha Sinclair: A White Woman Learns About Black Hairstyling

Hair extensions, dreadlocks, and dread perms with hair extensions on the ends are very popular in the belly dance community as well, no matter the race.  I had hair extensions done (baby fine, thin hair) using a pinch-braid technique that allowed me to go about 2-3 months until they needed to be tightened again - 8 hours’ worth of work and expensive, but for the first time in my life, I had long wavy hair past my shoulders, and I felt like a goddess.  It didn’t matter how long I was sitting in that chair - it took about 5 years off my age and being able to flip that hair around - it was a wow!  I finally had them removed when my hair dresser opened her shop a little too far away to be practical for me to drive there, but I still remember how much I loved it.
