If you had to choose a theme song for your life, which would it be?

Good choice, S A, I have always loved this song. He is a great lyricist.

What passage or passages from a book, poem, short story or other literary work moved you so much that you've never forgotten it?

Two quotes were particularly meaningful to me this year:

By Rumi :

"Everything you see has it’s roots in the unseen world.

The forms may change, yet the essence remains the same.

Every wonderful sight will vanish, every sweet word will fade.

But do not be disheartened.

The source they come from is eternal, growing, branching out, giving new life and new joy.

Why do you weep?

The source is within you, and this whole world is springing up from it."

And by Dr. Seuss:

"Be who you are and say what you feel.

Those who mind don’t matter,

And those who matter don’t mind."

Words to live by!!!

This weekend marks the 40th anniversary of the Woodstock music festival. Did you go? If you didn't what did you feel about it?

I did not attend ~ lived on the West Coast and had no money to travel.  I was 17, had just left home for the first time, living in Hollywood (my hometown).  The events of that summer were just a little hard to wrap one’s mind around: first, Man Walked on the Moon in July - Amazing! Aug. 10 ~ Manson murders in Hollywood = evil and hate.  Aug. 16 ~ Woodstock = Peace and Music.   Humankind at it’s best and worst in a month’s span.

Lesley Stahl: My Hair Is Sprayed With Cement!

Hahaha! Thanks for the laugh, Josie!! And you wear it well, dah-ling!

Julia Reed on Life, in All Its Gritty Glory

Sam - I read the NY Times piece and it did, indeed, "say a lot" about our lives, ourselves, mothers, daughters, sons, family!  It was a beautifully written piece.

Do you remember your first kiss?

Phyllis - What a FABULOUS poem - very evocative. Thanks for sharing it.

Cynthia McFadden: Hillary Clinton Working Hard to Get Obama Elected

Words are wonderful things, aren’t they? And Mugsy is great with words. I will give her complete credit for my quitting smoking, because she said in a post back in June: “You Need to Show Up Every Day For the Life You Want to Live”. That ONE sentence completely obliterated years and years of quitting and backsliding. Done. Haven’t had or wanted a cigarette since. (I know I digress, but it was deserved). Words are very powerful things, yes indeed. And you’re welcome. I always enjoy your comments.

Georgia - Next thing you know they will be using “habitationally challenged” for the homeless. All you have said truly resonates with me. “Class” is / was / has never been about money, as you eloquently stated. I, too, hope we see the bar raised as Dee T. described. No longer can / should we “settle” for mediocrity; in ourselves or in our government. One can affect the other, in a positive way.

Joan Ganz Cooney Already Knows How Her Obit Will Read

I may be wrong, Joan, but I think this is what it might say: Sunny day Sweepin’ the clouds away On my way to where the air is sweet Can you tell me how to get How to get to Sesame Street And, no, I didn’t have to look it up. This is a song I used to sing to both my daughters at bedtime.

'The View' Ladies Tussle Over Obama, Bill O'Reilly and Who's a Communist (Video)

In the Los Angeles Times article I read, the RNC report was cited. Just google “RNC financial report Palin clothing” to see many articles, from Politico, USA Today, Fox News, etc. The RNC has responded, saying the clothes will be given to charity. If the actual report is online somewhere, I have not found it.

'The View' Ladies Tussle Over Obama, Bill O'Reilly and Who's a Communist (Video)

The RNC released it’s financial report which itemized the expense for Palin’s clothing. Straight from the horse’s mouth, as they say.

Who won round 2 of the presidential debates last night?

Actually, by saying “That One”, I think McCain has just made Obama a super-hero!! My background is in music so naturally that is where my brain goes in all things. Think about it. Close your eyes and start humming the TV theme from “Batman” - now just insert “That One” in place of “Batman” - and VOILA!!! Someone with some talent and Photo Shop could REALLY do it up right. I think America could use a Super Hero right about now, don’t you?

Who won round 2 of the presidential debates last night?

I was always taught in school and at home that you show respect to people with whom you disagree. I was very disturbed by the lack of manners and respect shown by McCain. The “that one” statement has already been cited here, so I won’t go there again. Or that McCain refused to shake hands at the end of the debate. Did anyone else pick up on the subtle dig about Joe Biden? In talking about Health Care plans, McCain wondered if “hair plugs would be included in the coverage. ” Plain and simple, the man has no class. His words and actions last night, and at the other debate where he would not even LOOK at Obama, speak volumes. Are you listening, America?

Choosing from our 2008 list, who do you think is the sexiest man over 50?

Mary Page - My mother in law certainly agreed with you. For years she had a white pillow case with a black & white photo of Paul Newman on it - except the eyes were VERY bright blue. I have it now, my kids always loved it when they were young. He is a dream, that’s for sure.
