Lost Heroines: Elizabeth Keckley's Road From Slavery to Tell-All Scandal

Fascinating - thank you - will look for it; the thank you is reiterated!

Is Congress Forcing CEOs to 'Fire U.S. Workers As Fast As They Can?'

Thank you. I just heavily scanned his book Lunch and found it overwhelming. The internecine greed is overwhelming. The forces of corruption are so multilayered and blatant, and I’m glad people are writing about it, having TV shows about it, blogging, you name it. I think the ordinary person can be more savvy than people think. In the 1980s I was a returning student and towards the end of my Senior Year worked for the Social Science Department. A professor was writing about the transnational corporation’s corruption in Guatemala, and I just thought, “Oh the power of the pen.” thank you Whoopi!

Haunted by Burmese Ghosts

It’s grievous; i have just finished a second book on Aung Sang Ki; don’t have spelling in front of me, it’s not quite right; these poor people; it’s beyond horrific; has to be right up there with N. Korea’s Punonimintang Prison; again, sp; sorry

Too Thin? To Jail! Should the French Government Take the Matter of Eating Disorders Into Its Own Hands? by Judith Weinraub

You can’t have government control over your food; that’s nuts; we have to promote educational programs, private or public, but it’s an addiction, and pushing, scolding, nagging, you know the drill, doesn’t work. Congrats Liza, you are alive and evidently okay!

Lily Tomlin: When the 'Murphy Brown' Show Ended, I Cried My Eyes Out

Did I miss something? Boston Legal is going? eeek! is this true????

Memorial Day Weekend: A Hateful Three Days

Hilarious; i ended up living with two separate mother-in-laws; but as a result I am a very good one; i keep my mouth shut; i love the kids and leave them alone; I grew up in Boston, but consider myself a Californian at heart; am not the stereotypic California. Loved your piece, just hilarious!

What television show do you miss the most?

Anything with Gilda Radner in it. I still laugh at her mother telling her, “Some day you will want to use the lower portion of your body,” as Bill Murray enters the scene with his pants hitched up to his neck. Brilliant. So many. St. Elsewheres, Hill Street Blues, anything with social comments. Boston Legal - thank God for Boston Legal - some of its writing gets cartoonish, but they nail social issues so well that the ordinary people, me, feel hope. that’s what good fiction does. States truths to carry on. I love Stephen Colbert, as he is sooooo bright. I loved the Claudius series on tv, think i watched it about 11 times; i loved the Palliser’s also, and a lot of Masterpiece Theatre. I miss Burke on Grey’s Anatomy; such a fine actor, and with Christine too; good good acting. I love David Kelley for producing such good shows. I wonder if shows couldn’t be considered like medical conditions in the country. Some months ago there was a blip or more than a blip on doctors offering services in the South and lines and lines of people without money who couldn’t afford it. I think social dramas around those themese would be great. I like the HBO series In Treatment. I am grateful to Bill Moyers; I love Charlie Rose, and Tavis Smiley. I know this started out as a one liner, but throughs travel. No small task to put on a show, have excellent writers, put forth a social condition of great concern and not preach! Courage is needed. I like the newshour also. To those of you who are involved, thank you one and all.

Burning Mad Over OPEC's Stubbornness

thanks for your views; they are helpful and insightful!

To Lose a Child

profound poem; i think when one mom suffers, we all suffer; thank you for putting the poem up

Percentage of Voters Say They Would Never Vote for a Woman, Regardless of Qualifications

Until women have an equal voice in the council chambers, we will never have peace. I remember several years ago, all the women reps or senators or both; were on a show. There was so much better consultation and points of unity.

If you could live inside a movie, which would it be?

I would live inside the liquid amber notes of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, particularly at the end, when the sounds of his notes seemed golden against black velvet. On the other hand, I loved My Brilliant Career, particularly the moment when Janet Frame walks out of the classroom and an opra song (forget which one; sounds like Puccini) played as she walked and sobbed, but on the other hand, if it were a Wednesday, I might hang out with Charlie Chaplin and be a fly on the wall during his escapades!

wOw's Views on the News: Time to Lay Off Michelle Obama and Cindy McCain's Money?

I hate when they attack the wives or the family. Cindy McCain had a stroke a few years ago, and here she is out functioning. Is that our general response. The more people attack, I think, the more the ordinary person will dig in their heels and vote for what’s right. I think part of this groundswell is because people are sick of attacks, gossip, division. I can’t say much in a small space and my views probably appear simplistic. But it takes courage to be a First Lady; enough already!

What is your best recipe?

When I’m with a group that still eats meat, i get lean ground turkey and lean ground beef; mix it in bowl. then I take a package of Knorr’s Cream of Leek Soup and a small tiny can of evaporated milk and mix, and bake. Good with baked potatos. I often add this to my lentil soups, but i do a lot of other stuff too. at the moment we live in a 2 room pool house, heavenly, and have a kitchen the size of a closet, no oven but two burners, and we are creative. Pasadena has a lot of eateries, and so we can get healthy stuff for lunch and safe half for dinner; and hang out and chat also!
