It’s probable that the NYT exposure will help this particular boy by embarrassing the community. Nothing will change anything for all the other victims aside from continually shining the light on the problem. You have 2 movies out now about it: DRILLBIT TAYLOR and NEVER BACK DOWN. This usually signals a shift in public perceptions, though a very gradual one, like the first movies about racism in the 60’s. But until parents teach tolerance to their bullying children, this abuse will only beget more school shootings.

I too take great exception to Ferraro’s comment. I even find it hilarious. Obama got where he is IN SPITE of being black. Furthermore, he’s mixed-race. Maybe he got where he is because he’s half white.

Bravo for this interview. To invest in the future of Africa has to be partly about bringing women’s education into the fore. John McCain is the same age now as Reagen when he entered his second term and started showing signs of Alzheimer’s. And nobody noticed! I think McCain is already showing signs of confusion. Just look at how he flip-flopped on water-boarding - among countless other issues. I think both his short- and long-term memory is SHOT.

TV is now an “event” thing you have to bestir yourself for, like going to the movies. Channel surfing is now web-surfing.
