Liz Smith: Texas Today – Gone With the Wing-Nuts

I will hate to see you leave this site.  I so enjoyed reading your posts and appreciated your passion. Yes, there are things I do not like about this site but every so often meaningful discussions will be posted and I am glad I have stuck with it.

Liz Smith: Texas Today – Gone With the Wing-Nuts

Guess it is my turn to chime in on Texas.  I lived there, by choice for 26 years (and I am as liberal as they come).  I was often amazed at the ignorance I encountered but realized it wasn’t just TX - there are many, many ignorant people all over our country but screamers always get the attention. I met many wonderful people while living there and I am saddened that TX has such a reputation.  Two of my children have decided to live in their "home state" and they do not fit the Texas stereotype that is so popular with the press, movies, etc.  I do love the show Friday Night Lights and I do think it gives a glimpse of small town life in TX.  So sad a very vocal minority makes a whole state look bad.

How many hours each day do you spend online?

Although my computer is on all day i check in @ 4 times.  My longest log-ins are in the morning with e-mail, wowow, and 2 newspapers for certain editorialists.  I do check in with wowow during the day for a quick review and then in the evening I do a wrap-up with another site for their various commentaries.  I still love reading  paper newspapers so that is what I read for my daily full coverage news. In all, I probably spend 1 to 1 1/2 hrs online.  Sseveral friends now have facebook but I have declined to join.  The internet has enabled me to keep in contact with friends in different locales.  I loved receiving letters in the mail and was quite good at letter writing but sadly that has diminished with the computer age.

Liz Smith: Sarah Palin's Ex-Almost-Son-in-Law From Hell

totally agree! "The adults" GOP operatives and Sarah Palin, staged the wholesome family picture and used Levi to complete the portrait at the convention last year.

Ganging Up on Carrie Prejean – Mr. wOw Is Not Amused

What a publicity triumph this has been for Donald Trump.  Let the whole thing die.

Liza Donnelly's Cartoon of the Week: The Best Thing About Summer?

Love it! I live in a beach town and every summer at this time I too look forward to having "our village back" but the tourist $$ do so much good.

Are you like your mother?

C Hardy,  I would love to read the posts to that question! I have 3 daughters (25, 23, 19) and I hope they would be able to answer that I did my best, I made mistakes and they are happy to be my daughter.

Are you like your mother?

Chrome Toe, I too was hesitant to mark a definite yes so I voted other.  In so many ways I am very much my mother’s daughter in looks, etc.  Because we are individuals we are quite different.  She was/is my role model for motherhood, being a woman, wife, friend, older sister.  I feel so fortunate she is part of my life and every day I thank her in my heart for being the woman she is.

The Day Grandma Left Heaven for Dead, by Sheila Nevins

What a great thought provoking article.  I have enjoyed reading all the posts.

I have been wearing this ever since Feb ‘03 when my owner went to the anti Iraq war rally and someone questioned his patriotism and remarked "even his dog is not an American breed"

The Mount: The Beautiful Home and Gardens of Author Edith Wharton (Photos)

Always been a big fan of Edith Wharton.  This sounds like a definite stop if going to that part of MA.

Lizzie R.,  Love it!!!!

Liza Donnelly's Cartoon of the Week: Swim at Your Own Risk

My son is a newly minted attorney but I think he would also laugh at the cartoon.
