From Success to Significance: Fashion For All Is Born

Another inspirational story that we really can make a difference - keep them coming.

Trader Vic's, Horn & Hardart, Schrafft's … What now-extinct food establishment still tugs at your memory?

I loved the crepes at The Magic Pan, and the memories of eating there with my mother.  I also miss the L.S. Ayres tea room in Indianapolis.  I would go there with my mother and grandmother on shopping days. Fond memories of all the mom & pop places of my childhood. Today, when going out I prefer going to the locally owned restaurants.

The 'Ongoing After' of Grief: A Mother Copes With Her Young Son's Suicide (Video)

WOWOWOW, Thank you for posting this interview. Dana’s  answer which started with "Yeah, there is such enormous stigma attached to both mental illness and suicide.  It really pisses me off, actually,to tell you the truth, because I don’t know what we are afraid to talk about…" says it all.  I am looking forward seeing the HBO show.

Fashion Designer Eileen Fisher's Formula for Success

Enjoyed reading the interview.  The clothes look comfortable - if only more designers were like her.

Women Celebrate 30 Years of Being Able to Keep Last Name After Marriage

I did take my husbands last name (married in ‘78) but use my "maiden name" as my middle name. It was not an issue with me as I like the way my full name sounds and reads - our names go together very well. I never understood the big deal and why people questioned women wanting to keep their name.

In which decade of your life did you feel your prettiest?

I was so excited to see 100% for "I’ve felt consistently beautiful…" thinking wow everyone has felt very confident and comfortable with their looks through the years and then I realized I was the 1st to vote!  Oh well!

Are you still a beach person? What beach phobias are you hiding?

Joan,  If I am correct on the "Beaches" filming it was north of Laguna Beach south of Newport.  If it is not that location it cetainly looks the same.  Close by is Crystal Cove Beach which is really nice.  The state is in the process of restoring old cottages and it is a beautiful spot to walk, sun and have lunch at the Beachcomber.  In the evening (I believe 5:00pm) they raise the martini flag.  Whenever I go there I feel I have stepped back in time and vow that someday I will stay in one of the cottages.

The Lessons on Beaches, Big and Small, by Mary Jane Clark

Thank you, thank you for this lovely, wonderful beach encounter.  You never know…

Are you still a beach person? What beach phobias are you hiding?

today there were high surf warnings for beaches in SoCal.  I took a walk along the beach and it was magnificent!  Later, after my husband did a hike from our house to the pier I met him for lunch.  We were entertained by seasoned surfers and the waves breaking against the pier.  Oceans, gulf, Great Lakes, not so great lakes - love being near the water!

Joan, Once again your words paint a beautiful picture!  Up the coast from where I live is the beach where they filmed that scene in "Beaches", sadly the cottage is not there.

I love living in my SoCal beach town.  I have been here 5 years and it is my paradise.  I love walking the beach - the sound of the waves is music.  A beach trail has been built and is heavily used by walkers, runners, people on bicycles, moms with strollers - the lure of the water and breeze.  Past spring spent time in the Gulf of Mexico off FL and loved the white sand, sand dollars and floating in the water.  Favorite time - a week sailing in the Caribbean through the British Islands.
