Laurie Anderson: 'What I'd Lost Was My Country'

I really do admire people who organize protests - it’s about bloody time. HOMELAND is a great title, because it’s very creepy. How did that slip into the vocabulary? Fatherland, Motherland, Homeland… very Third Reich with a touch of the Stalinism. Whenever my ancestors heard these words, they packed their bundles and fled, out of the frying pan and into the fire… Benefits like HOMELAND might be construed as preaching to the choir. That’s OK, as long as the choir keeps getting bigger, so big it can’t be drowned out. Laurie Anderson rocks. http://www. wolynski.blogspot.com

Which Irish artists have inspired you? Why and how?

Peggy Noonan called Samuel Beckett a hack? I’d rather praise him than sit through “Waiting For Godot”, but a hack he wasn’t.

Which Irish artists have inspired you? Why and how?

Oscar Wilde, the funniest man who ever lived. “The Importance Of Being Ernest”, still the most perfect play. Funniest opening - he’s playing the piano badly, asks the manservant for an opinion - “it would be impolite to listen”. Oscar Wilde lay dying in a shabby hotel on the Left Bank, took a last look around and said “Either this wallpaper goes or I do”. http://www.wolynski.blogspot.com/

wOw Announces Winners to 'Women on Mt. Rushmore' Question of the Day

Mount Rushmore is a monument to how things used to be. Who the hell goes to South Dakota? The Statue of Liberty, a woman, welcomed immigrants - better location and a lot more famous. www.wolynski.blogspot.com

Should prostitution be legal? Why? Why not?

Nah, it should not be legal - where’s the fun in that? How else are we going to bring down the powerful? Remember this: a hooker with a heart of gold exists only in Hollywood movies (written by men). In reality, a hooker with a heart of gold leaves you a $20 cab fare after she rolls you over. wolynski.blogspot.com
