What isn't – but should be – one of the wonders of the world?

A wonder of the world is the human body creating a baby, and then pushing that baby out through an impossibly small aperature, and voila you have a new person to contend with…for 20 years, and longer.

Our new baby granddaughter, born July 11, came with  a headful of luxurious light brown hair, sure to turn blonde or strawberry blonde, and a heartfelt wail to wake the dead.  What a personality!  The next day my daughter commented, "I can’t believe she’s only 1 day old; she feel like she’s been with us so much longer."

There is nothing more precious than a new baby, and miraculous, too.

Margo Howard: Whither America, Whither the World?

Billionaire T BOON PICKENS JUST GOT OUT OF WIND POWER after spending millions.  It just isn’t economically feasible at this time, and it is less than 2% of our energy output.  Shell Oil just shut down their solar division because the science doesn’t exist to make it storable and portable on a large scale.  But Obama says he wants energy prices to "necessarily skyrocket" under his plan.  This will cause enormous pain and suffering among the poor and working class.

Our country will be great as long as we have freedom freedom to make economic choices.  Obama’s plans take those choices away from us by over-regulating, and creating corrupt inefficient government solutions.

Past freedoms have allowed us to  "swarm" like bees to the best ideas except in areas controlled by unions like education and detroit automobiles.  With mortgages, and now health care, our choices are restricted to far less than then best options due to government manipulations.  Take a look at the new organization chart for the new health plan put forth by Democrats in congress for the new health system.  It’s a patient’s worst red-tape nightmare and a bureaucrats dream:

Think of all the productivity this will suck out of the it, and businesses have to pay for it.

Does the decrease in Obama's approval rating worry you? How does he measure in your book? What are his greatest weaknesses now?

More fascinating to me than Obama are the people who fervently support him.

I could point out that he had no business experience, and they would respond, "So?"

No economic experience.

"No big deal."

No military experience.

"Not important."

No foreign policy or trade experience.

"Who cares?"

No executive experience.

"Irrelevent."

You’re going to trust a lawyer as president again?  After Clinton lost his law license for assaulting Paula Jones and perjury?  Since when do you trust lawyers?

"I just like him."

This is an emotional connection and therefore doomed to erode.

This sounds great!  I am at a crossroads on so many projects.  I feel like I’ve created this massive Gordian knot - loosen one string and the others tighten up.  It gets frustrating and exhausting.  Sometimes you need just an objective eye to give you a coaching tip or two to keep the momentum going.  It reminds me of a story:

My husband was out in the woods with a group of 100 adult students.  The cook for the group was attempting to turn around the large U-haul truck that contained all the frozen food.  He pulled back and forth, back and forth in a grove of trees until he became hopelessly stuck between two large trees.  It looked like there was no solution.

My husband told everyone to gather round and grab onto the truck.  He told the group that on the count of three they were going to lift the truck and rotate it 90 degrees.  My husband’s boss, stood off in the distance shaking his head and smoking a cigarette, a total skeptic.  But on "3" with some groaning and puffing, the group hoisted the truck, turned it, and set it down in clear path.

The students were all so proud of themselves, and there were shouts and high fives all around.  But it took the vision of one person who knew it could be done.

So thank you for your vision!

wOw Reports: What News Matters to You -- And Why?

I had my first granddaughter this week, born to my oldest daughter, 8lbs 2oz, and 19.5 inches long.  When the doctor said push, I felt myself pushing.  When she said: Take a big breath and hold it for 10, I held my breath, too.  I still have the technique down pat, but this time it wasn’t for me.  Avrielle came out healthy, and squalling, and made us all laugh with her indignant angry cries, interspersed with short 10 second naps under the heating lamp.  Within a short time she was alert and looking around taking in the world.

The next day, as we analyzed her intense stare my daughter commented that it was hard to believe that Avrielle had only been alive for 1 day.  It’s absurd to think that she wasn’t alive before we held her; of course she was.  She especially responded to my daughter’s voice that she had been hearing for months.  Avrielle is the rising future generation.

The Love Goddess: 'Are You Still Sexually Active?'

I’ve read that regular sex can add 10 years to your life, or make you look 10 years younger - either way works for me.  After 26 years of marriage, I’m more sexually active than ever because we are more experienced than ever, and why waste all that talent?  With more life pressures, like financial issues and job security, we spend more evenings at home, and turn out the lights to save electricity.

He still drives me wild when our eyes meet across the room when we are in public.  We know we have to wait until we have private time to indulge ourselves, and sometimes that can be hours away.  Pent up desire works to our benefit as it always has - even before we were married and celibate.  Part of our foreplay is reminiscing about our first sexual experience on our wedding day.   Our earliest non-sexual friendship and romance has provided a solid foundation for our deep commitment and profound passion for each other.

Il n’y a qu’un bonheur dans la vie, c’est d’aimer et d’être aimé.

Stimulus Not Working? Let's Have More! by Liz Peek

FDR’s Treasury Secretary Henry Morganthau admitted that the government-funded stimulus was a failure when he shared his frustration with Congressional Democrats in May of 1938:

"We have tried spending money. We are spending more money than we have ever spent before and it does not work. And I have just none interest, and if I am wrong … somebody else can have my job. I want to see this country prosperous. I want to see people get a job, I want to see people get enough to eat. We have never made good on our promises … . We have said we would give everybody a job that wanted it. We have never taken care of the people … . there are four million that don’t have that much income. We have never done anything for them … We have never begun to tax the people in this country the way they should be … . People who have it should pay… . It’s never a good year to have a tax bill, but I think it’s a darn good year to begin to balance the budget… . the biggest deterrent of all … is that the country does not know when the end is in sight and this unbalancing of the budget … that’s what frightens people. I say after eight years of this administration we have just as much unemployment as when we started … . And an enormous debt to boot!"

No doubt that Obama has frightened investors, and consumers.  Investors have now seen that if they invest in companies and the government has a say, they may lose their investments illegally, as we saw with the GM investors/ bond holders, who were put behind the unions.  They were threatened if they didn’t cooperate.  That’s fascism, and now that investors know that Obama will use strong arm thug tactics, why should they take risk?  There is no incentive.

Consumers see the job market getting worse and worse, and therefore people are hording their money.  But all this is the natural results of hiring Obama who has

ZERO business experience,

ZERO economic experience,

ZERO  trade experience,

ZERO executive experience…

and here we are.  Ironically, Romney and Palin have all of those.

We have a friend who runs a deli who asked us, why would Obama being doing these things when he can see it’s taking us in the wrong direction and making things worse.  We think he actually wants to make certain things worse to make people more dependent on government, just like Democrats have done in the cities.

Of the top 16 MOST DANGEROUS CITIES, 15 are run almost exclusively by democrats.  They know what works, to control crime and increase productivity - science has prove it, but then they would have less to do as politicians.

Unleash Your Beauty: A Conversation With Simon Doonan

Maybe with the resurgence of modesty it will also bring back some of the respect men should have for women especially young women.  These last few years I had to ammend our girls prom dresses, so that they at least had a bit of a sleeve to cover their shoulders, and nothing too plunging.  I cringed with embarrassment for some of their friends who showed up in dresses that made them look like Las Vegas strippers.

What is your favorite thing about the 4th of July?

It’s also the memory of watching fireworks sitting on a blanket with my grandmother.

In celebration of Independence Day, when was the last time you really took advantage of your freedom?

It was years ago in California that I became a community organizer.  We had a graffiti problem our neighborhood so I made calls, found out I could get some leftover paint, and even applied for a grant to start a neighborhood association that would cover thousands of homes.  I published a neighborhood newsletter every two months, and organized dozens of volunteer block captains who handed them out door to door.

The only snag we hit was when the city grant representatives, an older Japanese fellow, and a young white woman, attended our first official meeting.  I told them I had handed out about 250 invitations door to door, and had about 20 people show up.   They were very impressed with our organization, our vision, our goals, our analysis of community challenges, and our step by step plan for dealing with those challenges.  In fact, it was one of the best groups they’d ever seen.  There was just one problem:  We didn’t have any minorities show up, so we weren’t going to get the grant.

I proceed to explain that on my court alone there was a Hispanic family, a Japanese family, my next door neighbors were Vietnamese immigrants, and our closest friends were the Philipino family living kiddie-corner from us. All these people had received flyers, and yet the only person from the cul-de-sac that showed up was the retired white guy.  Maybe he was the one with the most time to volunteer, I suggested.  I couldn’t force people to come to our meetings.

Well that didn’t sit well with the young white woman, and she told me so.  That’s when the older Japanese fellow, bless his heart, just laid into her and pointed out how important it was to encourage anyone coming forward willing to take the time to improve the community, and that she was being completely absurd and counterproductive in her assessment. (Government being absurd and counterproductive?  Who knew?)

I know I felt humiliated and angry that we had gone through so much effort,  only to be told to our faces, that we were the wrong race! Funny that they didn’t mention that in the grant application.

So we were awarded the grant, and the neighborhood association is thriving 15 years later.  Although I left the area years ago, the traditions we established live on.

Dear Margo: A Real Mess of a Love Affair

#2  As it would take time for the system to take action after the complaints are lodged, I’d go for something more subtle in the meantime, like sending myself flowers, with a big drippy love-struck card.  I’d also make sure to have a picture of a hunk of a man, maybe someone in military camo holding a gun.  Then I’d get a big expensive looking fake ring, and wear it on my left hand.

I’d put a sniper decal on my car - maybe one that said: "Snipers - America long distance service providers."   Psychological warfare.

Dear Margo: A Real Mess of a Love Affair

As the parent of the cheating daughter, I would feel horrible that I had raised such a malicious narcissist.  The whole situation reveals that whatever lessons of ethics, or classic morality taught to the daughter didn’t stick.  Unless of course, she was taught post-modern ethics, which is live for yourself, do what’s right for you, do what you have to do and we are the source of our own morality, not God.  So then you get "if it feels go, do it."   And so she does.

I would ask my daughter whether or not she would still respect me if I cheated on her father, and broke up the marriage.  What if he was devastated, and maybe ill with some cancer or other disease, in other words, dependent, like her lover’s family is on him. She might shrug her shoulders and say, "I’d want you to be happy."

I would ask her if she saw someone sleeping on the beach, who was obviously getting burnt to a royal crisp, if she would bother to wake him since he’s obviously wasn’t feeling any pain while asleep?  What if there were young children, maybe a toddler and baby asleep on the blanket too, and they were both so red that their little skin was already starting to blister?  Again, while sleeping, they obviously aren’t feeling any pain.  Do you wake them?  Wake the parent?  But look how peaceful, and blissful they look.  Why trigger all that pain by waking them up?

The daughter’s answer would provide the direction of the next comments.  If she said, "I’d walk right by, figuring it’s none of my business," then the parent has a far larger problem then she originally realized.  Personally, if a child of mine said anything of the sort, it would feel like a punch in the stomach, and I would know that I had failed to raise a caring human being.

I would ask my daughter what she thought of people who get high on drugs or alcohol, and then commit heinous crimes, like a brutal rape, or maybe, carving their initials in someone’s face to get back at a girlfriend for breaking up with them.  What about a mom who does drugs, and is high, while her baby drowns in the pool.  Should she be held accountable for the death?  Imagine in all these cases the perps were feeling really, really good, due to the drug.  Would that matter?

Next I would show her the National Geographic article on the Chemistry of Love, and how our powerful brain chemicals produce such tremendous euphoria, and pain-killing "medication."  I would then ask her how her own brain chemistry might be affecting her judgment.  It’s like she and her lover are blissfully sleeping on the beach, both getting burnt to a crisp. She’s’ just not feeling the pain, yet.  Would she want someone to wake her up?  Would she want someone to help protect her mate from the scarring blisters?   Just because she’s not in pain, doesn’t mean that lots of other innocent people aren’t being scarred for life because of her actions, and inactions to be protective.

Do you see the technological revolution as negative or positive as a tool in the protests?

Brutal regimes of the past could keep their atrocities under cover for a longer period of time.  Imagine the holocaust in Rwanda if the public could see the events nearly in real time, and get out the SOS messages via twitter.  Unfortunately, Bill Clinton did know the slaughter was happening in real time, and chose to do nothing.  And Obama is embarrassed that these images are messing up his obsequious pandering to the mullahs.  Obama even used the phrase Supreme Leader which is like a US stateman having referred to Hitler as Her Fuhrer.

So in the end the only way it helps is for voters to pressure their representatives and the president to take political action - because, like Clinton, Obama will not do it on his own.  I’m reading that they are hanging Musavi supporters.  Political decapitation of a budding movement.

Liz Smith: Michael Jackson's Arrested Development

After watching a video of Jackson morphing from black to white it’s even more obvious that he hated being black.  Why would he go out of his way to "adopt" white, blonde haired children when the vast majority of children eligible for adoption are black?  And for him to bleach his skin until it was so ghostly white seems unhealthy and strange.

Clearly Jackson had a severe personality disorder and body dismorphic disorder.  Someone that mentally ill and dependent on illegal medication could not have been a great father.  It’s just not possible.
